TCW Grievous is an embarrassment. ROTS Grievous isn't for multiple reasons. 1) ROTS Grievous happened immediately after Mace Windu crushed his chest. Grievous was off his game because that injury was severely hindering him and the damage was permanent. 2) George Lucas balanced out Grievous' cowardice by showing him to be competent. "Time to abandon ship" was basically a death sentence to Anakin, Obi-Wan and Palpatine. By launching all of the escape pods, not just his own, Grievous ensured their chances of surviving a crash while "still flying half a ship" were extremely slim. Without Anakin's Chosen One plot armour, the Republic would have lost its leader (so would the Separatists for that matter but Grievous didn't know Palpatine was Sidious) and the Jedi would have lost two of their best. 3) George Lucas knows Star Wars better than literally anybody else on the planet, so what he says goes. If he wants Grievous to be a coward, Grievous is a coward. Simple as that.

Inglese Honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with a Grievous being taken down by gungans: there's always been a perception of this race as clumsy and stupid, but it's the classic situation where underestimating your opponent can be counterproductive. My problem with that scene is that it doesn't come after a treatment similar to the 2003 cartoon, where Grievous was an unstoppable machine, but precisely after a series of skinny figures collected by a villain worthy of a Saturday morning cartoon, namely the Grievous of 2008 series.

I think that when Mace crushed his lungs, yes it gave him the cough, but it also gave him fear so that’s why he’s the way he is in the revenge of the sith

I agree, 2003 grievance is the one we should’ve got, and instead we got some weak version. But I understand why they did it - they had to dumb down this bad ass character so Obi-Wan Kenobi would be able to defeat him in the movie. They didn’t have time to do a proper series of Obi-Wan taking him out over the course of episodes.

Don’t forget about the fact that he used psychological warfare against the Jedi. He like to tear them down from the inside out, as well as other various techniques. And the very noises his cybernetics made played into his psychological warfare on the Jedi as well. He like to put their discipline and training to the test by screwing with their heads as much as possible before he engaged them.

@Scedence_ I think these series was always made in his own artistic style, fast paced and epic, even a bit too much, as if it was a story told for the 100th time by the grandpa who once witnessed Master Jedi Mace Windu fighting an army of droids bare handed. And of course the author was given a certain degree of freedom with what I think is a character which was already in production for the upcoming movie. The media of a 2D cartoon allowed this epicness, but for the 3D The Clone Wars it's obvious that animation couldn't be matched. So, filtering out this big factor away and converting it to the new medium, I think it was well played, the character is still following a ruthless general who plays dirty during fights. But after his first appeareance he lost most of his surprise effect and fought excellent Jedi who were already aware of his fame, and as someone pointed out in an old 9GAG post a long time ago, he is still following Count Dooku's lessons. Yes, the reason of is continuous retreats was in the 2003 Clone Wars all along, where Dooku instructed him how to defeat a Jedi, something along these lines "Fear, Surprise and Intimidation. Lack one and you'd better flee"

Ive never understood why people think Greivous in the micro-series is too over powered, hes litterally built to fight and kill Jedi, so why shouldnt he be able to take on 5 Jedi and hold his own?This is and will always be General Greivous to me, not the movie/TCW portryal.

In some ways, some small, others huge, the 2D Clone Wars is still better, in my opnion, than the 3D Clone Wars. Not for 1 sec did I believe that the 3D Grievous was a legitimate threat, whereas the 2D one IMMEDIATELY proves it to you. Sure, 3D CW gave us Fives, Echo, Rex, Satine and dope Anakin moments, but when it comes to dueling, 2D FAR outshines the 3D one. Just the Grievous vs the Jedi fight & Anakin vs Asajj Ventress on Yavin 4 duel are proof of this.

If they would have shown Grievous fighting like this in live action, it would have looked silly! But because it's animation, they're able to get away with these kinds of things!

The detail the wins it for me is that he doesnt use lightsabers given by dooku like Asajj Ventress, he siphons them off of slain jedi he's killed, so they break the color code of red=bad blue/green=good.
@ForsakenDreamer72 ай бұрын
Dooku did actually give him one lightsaber which used to belong to Sifo-Dyas, but Grievous seemingly only ever used it in training and killed several Jedi with his bare hands to get his first trophies.

To be fair, he was a bit overpowered, especially for someone who can't use the force. But episode 3 made him too weak, and the clone wars series almost turned him into a comical villain. In my opinion they should have made him a strategic genius who wasn't able to fight the jedi directly, but who won a lot of battles and killed a lot of jedi with his armies.

I don't mind the gungans taking advantage of Grievous' overconfidence. Arrogance leads one to underestimate their opponents. He saw the gungans as easy prey, just stupid natives living in a swamp. But like Jar Jar said, "wesa warriors."
