What makes it funny is that Barbara tries to cover it up. They knew for months and wanted Star to make up some phony exit. There’s a difference between getting a new role and moving on, and getting let go and then find a new role to tell the viewers you have a nee role. Lol

Star Jones was eloquent and full of class and dignity. She took the upper hand when she was being run over by a bus. Constant rumours about her departure and she decided to just say “I’m leaving”… this spoke enormous volumes about who to trust. I would trust Star and I would never have trusted Barbara Walters. Thankfully Barbara left television 10 years ago and subsequently passed away. They all hail Barbara as some kind of trailblazer I only see her as someone who was initially bullied in the industry who fought her way through and then indeed became the bully herself.

What the people posting here do not realize is that Star Jones WAS fired by ABC for her endorsements and getting greedy with free wedding gifts. After this "graceful" announcement that SHE'S quitting, she trashed the show all over the media for the rest of the day. That's why Barbara made this speed you see in the video.

Barbara wanted to destroy Star Jones for leaving on her own terms, that’s why she made this petty speech.

Currently reading "Ladies Who Punch"-----and I HAD to come here and see the actual clip. Star was SEAMLESS in her delivery. Call it what you want...but from Barbara's follow up--- undermining Star in every way (and acting shocked the day before, which says more about her, possibly)....Star seems to have done what she needed to do. Check out the book when you get a chance. The Star chapters are amazing. Telling, but amazing.

I watched an old episode of the Tonight Show that mentioned this and I was so confused so I looked this up. Star Jones did the right thing. Barbara is a NASTY person. She just couldn't let her have a win and leave with dignity. She did leave with dignity. She left on her own terms and Barbara and The producers couldn't handle that.

She really one upped Barbara, and Barbara thinking she's hurting Star is only exposing herself to her fans that she's really a vindictive person. I never liked her, and that was before I knew this even existed. Thank God for the internet so people can remember her for who she really is.

Unpopular opinion: it wasn’t worth firing her the next day, BUT I do see what Barbara was saying. Like how Lisa Ling left when she had a position with National Geographic and announced it on air - it was good for the shows image, and for Lisa’s - she looked better for not having been fired and moved on on her own. Again, while I think Star made a short sighted decision, Barbara and her should have worked it out and just let star finish her contract…

It was Kool as long as she was the heavy set black woman.. when she loss that weight and stepped her game up it was a problem.. Star looked better than all of them. Classy exit Queen.

Star Jones I cried that day when you left the show because you were one of the amazing cohost of the view you made the view a better show and I miss you on the view and you need to visit more often and I feel bad for our other friends because they don’t have you anymore but please visit of you more often because this made me so emotional and sad
