Currently reading "Ladies Who Punch"-----and I HAD to come here and see the actual clip. Star was SEAMLESS in her delivery. Call it what you want...but from Barbara's follow up--- undermining Star in every way (and acting shocked the day before, which says more about her, possibly)....Star seems to have done what she needed to do. Check out the book when you get a chance. The Star chapters are amazing. Telling, but amazing.

@@jmusmc85 Apparently she said she was going to stay until end of July (she was supposed to announce it on Thursday June 29 but did so on Tuesday June 27) at one time but then she must’ve been pushed out. Once they went into summer reruns on Monday August 7, 2006 they removed her from the open and focused more on replaying shows she wasn’t there for.

They basically fired her twice by not allowing her to finish out the season. The dignity she had, was the dignity she took. She could have said a lot more when she made her announcement, but instead she took the high road and thanked everyone, including that evil troll of a witch sitting to her right. I don't like Star much more than I like Barbara, but out of the two, Star was the one who behaved with class.

She was told in April soon after Meredith announced her departure that she wouldn't receive a contract renewal. Basically what happened was that the network gave Star the opportunity to say that she was leaving voluntarily, therefore protecting her from having to say she was fired, and the network would have gone along with whatever she said. She was meant to make her announcement two days later, with everything planned, but she did was announce early that she had been fired, and she made several announcements in other places of her firing as well. This made things very difficult for the network as it put them in a very bad light, which is why Barbara had to make a seemingly harsh speech to put the record straight.

Constant rumours about her departure and she decided to just say “I’m leaving”… this spoke enormous volumes about who to trust. I would trust Star and I would never have trusted Barbara Walters. Thankfully Barbara left television 10 years ago and subsequently passed away. They all hail Barbara as some kind of trailblazer I only see her as someone who was initially bullied in the industry who fought her way through and then indeed became the bully herself.

Jones' contract for the following year wasn't renewed by Walters then in revenge Jones surprised the viewing audience and said she was voluntarily stepping down after much soul searching. So disingenuous of her and a good acting job. ------------------------------- From NY Times article: In early 2006, Ms. Jones was told her contract would not be renewed. Both women were completely unprofessional. First, Star should know better than to make an announcement of that magnitude without consulting TPTB. Given the fact she was not leaving under the best of terms (i.e. her contract not being renewed, which is PC talk for "terminated"), it's always proper to coordinate with top brass on how to provide the best mannered departure announcement. Second, Barbara had no business spilling ON THE AIR what transpired behind the scenes. This was a private maneuver by the network and should have remained there. If she was disappointed in Star's behavior, she should have spoken with her in private. Contractual talks/terms should never be divulged in public, period
