Thanks luthier. Does the weight of the brass affect the flexibility of the soundboard much? I would like to know how thick the brass is on this guitar? I mean is it around 0.3-0.4mm or something else?

Yes it's .3 mm, since it's on the sound hole reinforcement between the two transverse braces it's rigid enough in that area and does not affect the flexibility of the main part of the soundboard in any kind of significant way in my opinion

"Not super easy" 😅 Exactly! Looks like an absolute pain in the ass to remove and install.

Brilliant sound. Few luthiers get that a guitar, a true guitar sounds like this.

I learned a funny little trick to compare wood surfaces when I sharpened my handsaw . After the saw is sharpened it cuts ok .Put that first piece of wood aside . Now slide the diamond sharpening stone along the sides of the saw teeth which makes very sharp edge points . Cut the wood again and compare the first and second wood pieces by holding close to your ear as you rub a finger along the surface . The first piece will make a lower pitch note than the second piece . A rougher cut leaves fibres a bit longer than a fine cut . I can`t work out why this would actually be useful though . But compare a sanded surface to a planed or scraped surface . Camera focus is not up to that job .

Brass is not attracted to a magnet . This must be plated brass . Of course you could glue a magnet onto the back beforehand .You could use evostik instead of copper tape . The evostik would release if the brass was heated with a soldering iron . The glue would turn to dust with heat . Just use a few dots . Brass to brass only . Or glue some magnetic tape on the back (inside ) and leave the magnet there . Fitting an inner wooden rim would be easy .

Is the inside lip all that holds it in? It seems like it would fall down into the back. Thanks

Thanks for sharing. What is the inside bracket like?
@luisfernandezdecordoba5938
@luisfernandezdecordoba5938 5 жыл бұрын
It is the normal spruce rosette reinforcement ring with a shallow relief cut into the inside so it forms a slot that serves to receive the slight lip turned on the upper edge of the brass.

And you get very crisp results like this? This video is 8 years old, I'm curious if you're still doing it like this or have any improvements over your method.

Hey Luis, thank you for all your videos. The quality is very good. I love the detail you put into guitars, making the final result very much your own design rather than a copy of a well known guitar. I love the detail you made on the version 20 guitar with the cutaway and how you made the heal slip beautifully into the cutaway. Making a cutaway is a challenge and you made it even harder, but a very fine job. I have never used hide glue before, but today took some beautiful legs off a table as my wife wants an iron frame support for the table now. I guess hide glue had been used and after 2 days of using steam and a saw, the legs remained firm - although I had made some headway. I used vinegar to help weaken the glue and eventually knocked the leg fittings off (3 of them). The leg arrangement was a rather clever one where no nails are used and the legs first go into an almost half globe. They were about 5 inches wide, giving the legs more grip to the table. I never imagine it would be so strong when you consider what hide glue really is. I then tried to sand off the hide glue with a belt sander and it wont hardley touch it. So I started using a jointing plane. I think I have a bit more to learn from people like you before I become a craftsman. As you say, hide glue dries to a hard crystalline structure. At least today I have proved to myself that hide glue is no problem if I work with it with the right knowledge. I have listened to the tone of your flamenco and classical guitars and think they are very good, especially as soem of them were recorded in your workshop, probably with an onboard camera mic.

Good demo. You looks like a very carefull and precise woodworker! I am thinking of buying that kind of scraper plane, but I am not sure if its good. How much do you like it? Do you also use it on the back of the guitar? you know.. it is quite big. Commonly in lutherie its more usual to use plane sizes like no. 4 or smaller for back and sides, but maybe it is good?
