I enjoy your channel, and i don't find many that I watch as often. I'm from Joplin, MO. Been a long-time Royals fan. Rest of the family are Redbirds. Congrats on 2 solid years of content 💪

Always enjoyed watching Fernando pitch. Saw him live many times in LA while I was in the USAF. I was in basic training during 81 W.S. don't think we got to watch any of the games.

Hi Chris. I remember that year of the strike and Fernado's impact to the game of baseball. If I remember correctly, he won his 1st eight games. His starts at Dodger stadium were sell outs. He was also one of the youngest pitchers to win a World Series game. I plan on coming to the Strongsville show.

I was too young for Fernandomania (born in 83) but the legend of Valenzuela made it into the 1990s when I was paying attention to baseball. Thanks for sharing your reflections from growing up and two of those great cards.

I remember thinking how can this Fernando guy be so good he surely doesn’t look like a great athlete. I totally forgot about the eyes going up thing he did. I will see you in Strongsville!

Nice Tribute. I was 14 and am a lifelong Reds fan. I was at the final regular season Reds game when some of the players carried a banner all around the field. It read REDS BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL. The Cardinals had the 2nd best record in baseball and they didn't make the postseason either. So in 1981. Like you I couldn't stand Fernando I remember being happy for him when he got his no hitter in 90.

Obscure question for you Chris > I have three vintage baseball cards I would like to own, but question whether I ever will. Not my top collecting goal, but it is on my list. Wondering if you have them, because you have so many great cards behind you on your wall. The three are: 1) 1933 Babe Ruth Goudey #144 - in the batting position 2) 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle - head shot but looks like he is in a batting stance 3) 1951 Bowman Willie Mays - in a batting stance If you have them, would love to see them in a video at some point. Also want to tell you that I really enjoyed the George Brett showcase showdown. Specifically, I enjoyed the historical Contant and insight that you and Mike provided about George. Without a doubt, George Brett was my childhood baseball hero. Me and my brother used to go to Kansas City often to visit our grandparents and go to Royals games. We sat mostly in the bleachers in right field for the games. But I remember going up and watching the warm-ups and seeing guys like George Brett, and Brett Saberhagen, Dan, Quisenberry, and Willie Wilson. Thanks for your videos!!!

Thank you Chris for that wonderful tribute to Fernando. It’s awesome to hear that his impact was felt by you in the Midwest. I’m from LA and of Hispanic background and was 12 years old when he started his meteoric journey, I definitely lived it. He is an icon to Dodger nation here in LA and almost god like to the Hispanic population here. You hit the nail on the head when you said he was a rockstar. Knowing that LA has a large Mexican population when he moved the Dodgers from Brooklyn, Walter O’Malley was always on the search to find a Mexican superstar player to bring the Latin population to the ballpark. Fernando eventually was discovered and became that superstar. He’s a legend in this city and he is sorely missed. I’ll be at game 1 tonight at the stadium, it’s going to be bittersweet. The tribute will surely cast a somber tone to the game. Thanks again Chris and great Fernando cards, I got his 81 Topps traded rookie autographed PSA slabbed which I absolutely cherish.

Yeah, I was pissed too when the Reds didn’t make the playoffs in ‘81! You know you forgot to mention that Fernando is still the only pitcher to win Rookie of the Year and Cy Young in the same year.

I was 5 years old in 81 up until October, so I don't remember Fernandomania. I do remember a lot of his career, though. It was alleged he was breathing through his eyelids if I remember correctly. He pitched a bit for the Cardinals later in his career, but he had lost a lot at that point. I remember him being really good in his younger years and off the back of his baseball card!

1981 was such a unreal year. I was 14. my phillies were defending their title. pete rose was going for stan musials NL Hits record. The last game before the strike started, Pete Rose faced Nolan Ryan and tied the record 3630 but then struck out 3 times. So that night midnight the strike started. So I had to wait till august to watch pete break stans record. Ferandomania was the biggest sensation ever. The only other big rookie sensation was Mark the bird Fidrych in 76
