Nice blind.........you really are blind, LOL. Better luck next time finding the eagles. If you like to see some easily, there is a nest just to the right of entrance of Anclote River Park in Holiday. Just go down Baillees Bluff Road until you see the trail crossing and look towards the Gulf. There is a nest in the Pine tree and often they will be perched in the trees nearby. They're on the nest now.

Enjoyed your hike. Lovely place that I never knew existed. Drove by it a few times not knowing. Do they have maps available, if not how do you find Mt. Weekie? I googled it and there are quite a few roads through there, looks easy to get lost. Thanks for sharing. #450!

You talking about the contrast between people’s yards and the preserve is so true! There’s nothing in one and so much life and diversity in the other! Hopefully we can convince more people to “kill their lawns” and create their own little habitats on their property 🙂

Just checked my photo files. Haven’t been there since April 2017. Best I can figure, I spotted it on my way back to Sebring from Celery Fields visit. I may have to put it on my list to re-visit after the current rainy season.

i found a georeferenced pdf map of the preserve on the sarasota county website and downloaded it. looks like it works in the avenza maps app, which will show your location and also records your path.

Yay, this is the closest hike to me! Glad you found a quiet morning and saw quite a bit. It can get busy there. Lots of tortoises if you visit late in the day.

I saw maybe 2 other people on a Saturday morning. The heat definitely keeps most folks indoors :)
