ISTA and good torque wrenches are absolute must for this job. One thing to point, all BMW online catalogs like FCP Euro (including those from dealers like getbmwparts) have many mistakes in their parts suggestions (you experienced it with the engine mount), the only way to make sure that the part number is 100% correct - to ask a bmw parts department to check it by VIN, they have access to the database that is not available online. Also considering the amount of work, I would think about replacing both front and rear crankshaft seals, if >150k miles then rod/crankshaft bearings and wheel hubs, front diff seals and O-rings, all bushings and struts, basically all the parts that require the same disassembly.

I don't think the coupler would hit the spring perch when you include the bump stop.

Great work! Watching this tells me I really need a lift. I could attempt to do the same neck/back issues would make this 100 times worse. I am still dumbfounded at the design. A simple oil pan gasket is 14 hours of labor!

“Day 1”. Uh oh. I haven’t watched the video yet, but that’s an ominous start 😁. I do this type of thing for a living and I’d probably struggle a little bit doing an X5 oil pan at home without a full size lift.

Hi Chris. Excellent job. Your abs should be screaming after all this up and down😂😂😂 is there any way to center the subframe if that was previously removed and improperly installed back (I mean without marking the factory position) Thank you for the videos!

Hi Chris, Great video...I am doing the same job on my X5 E70 (oil pan removal). I noticed you referred to some printed instructions on a paper on your work bench. Where did you find the written instructions? Xoutpost or maybe another site? Please provide LINK or website if possible. Thanks!

I am so not looking forward to do this on my brother's X5. Better way to organize the nuts and bolts is to put it where you take them out from.

Those are called Wall Control. They are incrementally better than old-fashinoned pegboards, but not perfect.

Hello Chris! Do I need to remove the fan in order to reach the vanos solenoids?
@uberchris2
@uberchris2 Жыл бұрын
You might be able to get the solenoids out without removing the fan. But once you know the trick, removing the fan is pretty easy and it gives you a lot of room to work in.

What type lift?
@uberchris2
@uberchris2 2 жыл бұрын
The lift is a Quickjack. I use a 7000TLX since the curb weight of the x5 is right at the top of the scale for the 5000. Edit: Corrected TL to TLX
@bismarckGator
@bismarckGator 7 ай бұрын
@@uberchris2, do you use frame extenders? The distance between the jacking points on the x6 is about 65 inches. The TL model max spread is 60, TLX is 66

I’m glad you like it. The car mount is a Panavise 75103-599 that I got from Best Buy. From there I added a Ram Mount ball, arm, and phone holder. It’s really stable even at the track.
