Were you using the wire welder without gas the entire time? I had such a hard time with blow through on the thin stuff. Good video, looking forward to see the next. Steve from the US

I've done this job several times and watching your videos sent imaginary bits of rust into my ears. I don't envy you having to undo a bad previous sill job, as Neil Young sang, "rust never sleeps". This is a job for a person that truly loves MGs. I'm surprised at the extent of the damage, I found GTs fared better with the hardtop. My advice, make sure you use non-rubberized undercoating inside the sill assembly, (both sides of membrane). Be happy in the knowledge that, once complete, you have accomplished the hardest job in restoring a really great car. I'm 74 and have restored and driven a dozen As and Bs. "Safety Fast"! Wear hearing protection when grinding or you'll have hearing like mine!😢

If I hadn’t heard your English accent I would have known you are in England because of the ridiculously small Garages they attach to the House. So sad.

Hi, what thickness of steel are you using for the bodywork repairs please? And should it be thicker for underbody work? Many thanks DAVID

Hi, doing this job for the first time at the moment. How did you remove the membrane from the front end of the car when it is sandwiched between the inner wing flange and the inner wing flange?

Considering buying one of these for 300 euro right now. Only afraid of the state of the pockets

For 300? Worth it just for parts
@kellogdovahkiin21872 жыл бұрын
@@RebuildthePast . Im 18 right now and this would be my first build but im also afraid of how hard it would be to find parts i need without ending up spending more than if i just bought a running one for 4k
@RebuildthePast2 жыл бұрын
@@kellogdovahkiin2187 that thought has run through my head many times … does it come with parts or bare shell? I found that it’s better to start with something with most parts because when you add it all up the parts are expensive even if you’re buying all second hand. At least parts are available. The other issue is if you buy one that’s done there is a chance it’s hiding a lot of rubbish work. I’ve seen people spend 10k on a car that was just body filler
@kellogdovahkiin21872 жыл бұрын
@@RebuildthePast . It has the majority of the parts. But both front and back windows are broken, it has rust spots allover but i dont think any rusted through. The bumper is bent in the middle. Theres no pictures of the engine or engine bay or interior so i doubht they will be in good condition as its been sitting outside for years

Hi Excellent videos. I have a GT V8 and the body shell is in very poor condition. I am curious about how you replaced the beading on the rear quarter. Mine are just as bad as the one you have and your video has given me the confidence to patch rather than replace the entire quarter but I’m not sure how to do the beading! All advice welcome :)
@RebuildthePast2 жыл бұрын
I used an epoxy resin/glue The two panels are spot welded together so I did have to carefully remove the old beading. I wouldn’t say it’s the best method but is less work than having to replace both panels

Hi I would of done the compression test with all the plugs out and wedge carbs open ,change plugs leads points condenses distributor cap first, before removing the engine. then took the readings. the squirted some oil down the boars and see if that had improved it . if it did the rings are gone if does not the then valves are gone. You did a lot of hard work and learnt a lot so i hope everything is going well .

Hey man, you have made a very nice job. I have a 1974 MGB roadstr and I m 22 years old. I m going to change exactly the same parts of my car as you've made. Your videos are like The Bible for me. I have made so much screenshots for the details haha. Thank you mate, and would be great to meet you in real maybe one day with our MGs :)
