Does that engine feel like it makes good power? Can’t wait to hear some big stacks on it too btw

40,000 lbs. of load, with the racket engine? Right arm workout. If there's a hill 5 miles away, the engine will start to pull down.

Diff has a power divider failure. Can be a common problem, someone has left it engaged on bitumen roads.

Well Jake it’s so good to see the old girl doing what it was built to do Haul heavy 💩 Do you have some square tyres on it , seems to be a little bouncy 👍👍
@dieseldownunder.2 күн бұрын
Hey David thanks for watching! They are actually new tyres but it does have quite a heavy spring pack in the front which may be contributing to the bounciness, it’s much better with weight in the back that’s for sure!

Just leave that Jake turned while down changing. Not so good when unchanging. Or fit a micro switch to the clutch pedal to disengage the Jake when pushing in clutch. 👍

Hey mate I would have loved to have been around when these old girls ruled the road! Yep 2 stroke Detroit 6v92 335HP. Definitly abit more work to drive them than todays trucks haha Thanks for watching! Cheers

Having a bit of an argument. Is the truck towing the drop deck a 104 or a 108? It’s got two steps but think it’s got after market indicators on it. Pls settle this 😂
@dieseldownunder.2 күн бұрын
Hey mate it’s a 108, hopefully your on the right side of the argument haha Cheers
@gsd4me003 күн бұрын
Great stuff, you've got to love the sound of a two stroke Detroit. In a normal situation, how high do you take the revs to and how low do you let them down before changing gears?
@dieseldownunder.2 күн бұрын
Hey mate I’m not an experienced driver with these old engines by any means but I tend to sit between 2000-2500 rev out to 2500 and let it lug down to 1800 ish No idea if that’s right😂 Thanks for watching!

Perfect section of road to really let it sing, down there near ocean grove. Love it! I notice it’s on club reg, I was told you couldn’t use vehicles on club registration for commercial purposes, but I’ve never researched that, have I been given a bum steer there? Love the videos mate, keep them coming. And LET HER EAT!
@dieseldownunder.3 күн бұрын
@@daleboulton1169 yep it was only like 2km from home but I took it on a joyride to get some heat into the engine! Yep I believe they say it can’t be used for monetary gain on club reg, so the dozer was at a mates block up the road and I picked it up if it was a commercial float shift it would not be aloud but being my machine and not a commercial job it’s no different to moving a vintage tractor for example. That’s my understanding it’s all about not being for monetary gain. Thanks for watching Cheers!

@dieseldownunder. you're welcome my friend, it's good to see these older girls being kept alive, especially kw- detroits. The sound still gives me butterflies 45 years after my first ride in one . My father was an interstate driver bris-syd for over thirty years, his last ride a 200 , cummins with a clutch, b-double for freedom. Respect mate! I see in the comments that you may have an SAR in the pipeline? I definitely will follow any progress. Something about the SAR makes them my favourite truck. Love your work mate!

Great sounding Detroit, those old Rockwell SQHD's had a couple different style pinion nuts over the years. We would tack weld them after a rebuild so they wouldn't back off, hope it didn't tear it up to bad.
@dieseldownunder.2 күн бұрын
Hey mate glad I’m not the first one to have this problem! It did abit of damage the front housing was pretty close to having a hole straight through and the carrier and housing also got abit munched by the pinion so currently looking for another one to rebuild! Thanks for watching mate take Cheers
@davidanderson23932 күн бұрын
@@dieseldownunder. That Detroit is a good power and torque combo for those old SQHD's, getting back to the yard when you did was lucky. Hauling that dozer sucked the last bit of life from that front unit, I started rebuilding SQHD's in the late 70's until the late 90's. Good luck on the hunt, after market gear companies years back made every part for those after Rockwell phased them out
