One of the things to notice about this scene is that the subordinates question the Captains orders, and even his sanity, but still follow his command. Sometimes, as a solider, you just have to trust that the guy at the top isn't going to needless waste your life on stupid shit. And as the guy at the top, you have to not needless waste your surbordinate's lives on stupid shit.
