This part used to be called the variety market . The food was sold across the road where the Hilton is now . That part was at sea level where the boats would come in. This place is in my blood.

@WalkWithNiamh I didn't know it that it opens on Sunday. Years since I've been cos I'm not sure where to park. The Farmers Market on Friday. There was a burger stall in the corner near the Court end. It was really good. Towards the end of the time we got a huge bunch of grapes the size of a football for £1
@WalkWithNiamh6 күн бұрын
Wow, that's a bargain Gerard! I thought you were going to say £1.. There's a couple of multistory parking spots, one beside Hilton hotel and Layon Plaza. I'd see a TikTok of what the market looked like in yesteryear, so much has changed!

Irish are the biggest complainers. They also have short memories or maybe too young to remember what a shitty, noisey polluted street this use to be. The derelict sites are finally in the planning stages for redevelopment. Yeah I know it has taken years - that's how democracy works sometimes. Streets are spotless lots of buses and trams and electronic signs. I remember when O'Connell was filthy with papers and garbage blowing along the sidewalk and bins overflowing. The traffic was backed up with buses and trucks belching fumes. Remember the old buses how the breaks screeched when they pulled in to a stop. Any street in a city can look dismal or a gray dull winter morning.

It's probably from electromagnetics. In the Philadelphia Experiment, the United States Navy used electromagnetics to make a ship invisible, which it did, it also caused time travel to the future, teleportation and harm to the crew members

What an extremely boring vid is this. There is so much to see in Belfast, why walking over these uninteresting roads with hardly any sensible comment? Ok, we know now that it is often very busy in the Chinese restaurant on Stranmillis Road. Not really a life changing message.
@WalkWithNiamh22 күн бұрын
Hi Frits - thank you for your comment, Belfast is a big city so obviously it’s not possible to fit every Belfast street into one video, do check out the others from Belfast we have posted.

Loads of charity shops are not a sign of a thriving economy, quite the opposite in fact. And to think that Great Victoria Street used to be called “the golden mile’,because of the diversity of small businesses, just look at the state of it now, anonymous glass fronted buildings, boarded up shops and derelict spaces.
@WalkWithNiamh22 күн бұрын
Hi Wealliveintrees, thank you for your comment. Botanic has always been very popular with restaurants, but your right Great Victoria Street is looking very sorry for itself, possibly due to Covid and lack of interest in that area.

I don't know what it is about the stunning Belfast! but even with a little graffiti here and there it's still looks a superb looking city to me. The other city on the Island of Ireland that makes feel this way is the superb Limerick city centre... Limerick and Belfast have very similar long and big georgian streets that look just like the huge streets in Manhattan, and as Manhattan had copped Limerick's city grib block streets I can see why Limerick looks like Manhattan or Manhattan looks like Limerick whichever way you look at it but Limerick who had the big long square block streets first in the world. So because of this fact, I don't get this big city feel when I visit Dublin or Cork, to me they just look like big towns to be honest and I'm a Derry city man saying this.
@patrickkeating707422 күн бұрын
You can be very thankful you do not get the big city feel in Ireland. That requires a city of 20 million. D....head. Who wants that in Ireland?
@WalkWithNiamh22 күн бұрын
Hi Eric, thank you so much for your comment. Derry is a lovely city (albeit hilly) we are hoping to visit in a future video, any recommendations? Belfast always looks great in sunshine! Limerick is added to our places to visit too 🙌
@ericfreeman27322 күн бұрын
@@WalkWithNiamh wow' that's brilliant you'll love both cities. Best days to visit Limerick city I found are Thursdays and fridays as the city is buzzing and Derry's best day is saturday as it do be buzzing too.
