The whole landscape is unnatural, your "beautiful green farmland" should be mainly temperate rainforest with some flower meadows in the lee of higher land. Yet you complain just because someone else wants to use it in a different unnatural way.

If you want the landscape to be rewilded then prepare to live off a diet of tree bark. People have been farming the land to feed people for thousands of years, with ecosystems developed to work with farming. Why else would the Cornwall wildlife trust release cattle at Hellman Tor?. Man made steel frames and copper wires have only been around in recent times.

In the video of anther solar farm, sheep can clearly be seen grazing between the panels. Grazing cattle or sheep before the solar park, grazing sheep while it is operating, grazing again after it is decommissioned. Biodiversity will increase, planning permission would not be granted otherwise. I would prefer to see local companies developing co-operative owned solar rather than giant overseas operators, but at least low carbon energy is being developed.

Plus another 145 acres proposed for farmland between Treviscoe & St Dennis (by Statkraft, a company owned by the Norwegian Government). This will be next door to Cornwall's only Incinerator which was forced on us. Clay mining continues to rip up our Countryside and now, we have the race for Lithium. Enough is enough!!

If you feel so strongly about this subject there is a simple answer, direct action; go to your meter/consumer unit and switch off. If you're not prepared to do that then you're just another NIMBY with lots of complaints and no answers.

@@garysmith5025I have my own solar panels and 2 electric cars. Why do you think they should go on grade A fields instead of buildings and over car parks or along central reservation on motorways etc? We can only feed 50% of the population. If we need to import more because of loss of farmland, a higher carbon footprint will result
@garysmith5025
@garysmith5025 3 ай бұрын
@@carolinepark4033 "Grade A" fields? These aren't fields being used for high quality cereal crops or starchy vegetables, they're grazing pastures and can still be used as such for sheep when the panels are there. These complaints are entirely aesthetically based. I agree there should be panels on building and car parks, but I see no reason to stop land being used for two purposes, solar and grazing. However, on 145 acres you could place about 75MW of wind turbines and leave 95% of the land available for arable crops, I'm sure you would agree that would be a much better use of the land?

Love your work Kate and We are Cognitive. What does a healthy future look like? Our strap line is create the new so here it goes. Firstly humanity is in the midst of phase change disruption, like turning ice into water. It takes an enormous amount of energy to phase change and you can be forgiven for thinking that it is not going to happen. It is happening. You could say that it is robotics, blockchain and AI that are the great disruptors. I believe there is a critical mass of people waking up to how toxic and unfit for purpose our current hierarchy is. This critical mass is about to realize how powerful a disruptor it is. Secondly - Humans have super powers! Our ability to imagine, design and build is a super power. Language and writing are super powers. The ability to transmit ideas, designs, information and currency almost instantly at near zero cost is a super power. There it is a species with super powers is undergoing a phase change so what comes next? That's where we come in, those of us who create the new.

Am I missing some rule of finance here? Please explain how the narrator concludes the answer is 5p, not 10p?
@theblendeer
@theblendeer 2 ай бұрын
The bat is equal to 1 pound plus the ball's value. If the ball is equal to 10p then the bat would cost 1 pound and 10 pence. This is incorrect as the previous formula states that the bat and ball have a collective value of 1 pound 10 pence. So, if the ball is equal to 5 pence, the bat would cost 1 pound 5 pence. This value would then prove that the bat and ball costs 1 pound 10 pence as the ball itself is 5 pence, plus the bat which is 1 pound 5 pence.

Countries with parliaments (representative democracy) are in fact oligarchies (few lead). In order to be a true democracy, the decisions of the Parliament should be submitted to the approval of the citizens. The "fatigue" of democracy occurs when there is a big difference between the interests of those elected and the voters, so people lose confidence in the way society function. As a result, the poor and desperate citizens will vote with whoever promises them a lifeline, i.e. the populists or demagogues. The democratic aspect is a side effect in societies where economies have a strong competitive aspect, where the interests of those who hold economic power in society are divergent. Thus, those with money, and implicitly with political power in society, are supervising each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics. Because of this, countries with large mineral resources, like Russia and Venezuela (their share in GDP is large), do not have democratic aspects, because a small group of people can exploit these resources in their own interest. In poor countries, the main resource exploited may even be the state budget, as they have converging interests in benefiting, in their own interest, from this resource. This is what is observed in Romania, Bulgaria, when, no matter which party comes to power, the result is the same. The The solution is modern direct democracy in which every citizen can vote, whenever he wants, over the head of the parliamentarian who represents him. He can even dismiss him if most of his voters consider that their interests are not right represented. Those who think that democracy is when you choose someone to make decisions for you without him having to consult you, are either a fool or a scoundrel. It's like when you have to choose from several thieves who will steal from you. It's like when you have to build a house and you choose the site manager and the architect, but they don't have the duty to consult with you. The house will certainly not look the way you want it, but the way they want it, and even more surely you will be left without money and without the house. It is strange that outside of the political sphere, you will not find, in any economic or sports activity, someone elected to a leadership position and who has failure after failure and who is fired only after 4 years. We, the voters, must be consulted about the decisions and if they have negative effects we can dismiss them at any time, let's not wait for the soroco to be fulfilled, because we pay, not them. In any company, the management team comes up with a plan approved by the shareholders. Any change in this plan must be re-approved by the shareholders and it is normal because the shareholders pay.

It depends on one's definition of a Christmas movie. I see two camps: A) It needs to be a story that depends on the facts that it is Christmas. B) The movie takes place around Christmas time (and you can see the Christmas themes in the movie). Die Hard fits category B but not category A. The reason a lot of people were gathered was a company party. Those can happen for several reasons. It could have been Halloween and the effect would have been the same. The divorced dad wanting to be with his family again is the driving factor, apart from the good guy trying to stop the bad guys action trope. Nothing particularly Christmassy about that. Another classic from around the same era is Home Alone. You could say that the family trip could have happened at another time of the year, but the bandits took advantage of the fact that several homes are supposed to be empty at the same time and the messaging in the movie is about spending time with people we love - it is Christmas after all. The theme is heavily used. The decorations are used heavily. Among other things they are used by Kevin to give a show of having a full house. My opinion is that only category A are Christmas movies. Category B can be used as part of Christmas tradition. That would make them a part of Christmas without being movie in the genre Christmas.

Anybody seen Don't Look Up? Fantastic satire. Very sad. As of the last couple of year, I have precisely zero hope that anything will, or can, be done about the issue that is climate change. Those who know and care can't do jack about it, and those who "could" do something - just don't give a damn. Panem et circenses. So, to those who're not on the front lines, relax and enjoy the ride. While it lasts, that is. :)
