I just want classic fantasy back... but with Vampire coast as an actual army. GW had to kill it, just so they can make AoS. The best way to describe AoS is they killed the fantasy universe to turn it into a Mythos universe with gods and endless armies. In other words, they wanted to make the shake as 40k by making it bigger armies for their fantasy armies. The Old World seems very promising minus the fact that it takes place hundreds of years before warhammer fantasy took place. Most of the classic armies like vampire counts, lizard men, skaven, and dark elves are all "legends." They also have women knights in lore even though Reponce was meant to be the first and only in Brettonnia.

Nice review! I do like this new direction taken for cohesive narrative. I'll probably check it out in a collected edition format. That reminds me, what are your thoughts of the compact line that DC has started? P.S. That Galactus looking mighty fine!
@thechadnerd8562Ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching, especially if you stuck it out through the whole video. Are you talking about the DC Finest collections or the new format where the graphic novels are smaller and more like the same size as a normal paper back novel?
@raimobin45Ай бұрын
@thechadnerd8562 The latter compact graphic novels in a shorter format, yes. I was wondering if they are good to gift to someone, who you want to initiate into comics, giving a bit of taste of them. And I have always liked your explanation style and I have to give you credit for me getting into the DCAMU which I loved all of it. Because of that especially DC related, I do watch fully what you upload as it is quite entertaining always.
@thechadnerd8562Ай бұрын
@@raimobin45 well thanks friend, I really appreciate it. Personally for me the compact books are just that. Compact. If someone needs a compact version to save space, then yeah get them that. Otherwise, I’d just get them the normal one. Unless having the comic resemble a regular novel in appearance would for some reason make your friend more likely to try it. But that’s a dumb reason, only trying it because of how it looks.

The idea of many multiverses is fine, it’s not dumb, you just didn’t get it. Different multiverses are different franchises. For example one multiverse is Dc, other Archie, next Naruto and so on.. I think one should never hold on too tightly to existing continuity in fiction. Because what happens if Marvel decides in a few years to erase their continuity and start from scratch? For example, to attract mainstream moviegoers to read comics. The reason doesn't really matter. But what then..? Would all those years of storytelling be irrelevant? I don't think so. I see DC's continuity as phases or eras. New52 is a phase with its own rules, its own history-some which matters for the future of the DC-continuity and some which doesn't. I agree with you that continuity is important. But I don’t think it has to be set in stone to tell good stories. And in fiction, it’s inevitable that continuity will be broken sooner or later. If you accept that, you can look forward to the fact that the DC Finest books are finally collecting the many phases and eras of DC history in a coherent way. I am really looking foreward to it. In the same way I enjoy reading and collecting Marvel epic collections.

What an F-ing winger you are. This is nothing about these books, just you complaining about how much you like Marvel and hate DC. You can’t think of DC continuity the same way as Marvel, they are different beasts. DC is more like ready Greek or Norse mythology, a bunch of stories that overlap, and don’t seem to fit exactly together but still give a great overview of the characters and how they interact. It’s perfectly fine for you to prefer one over the other, but that does not mean the DC Finest are not good collections just that you hate DC. What these are great for are for people who want to read a particular character in a particular era complete. For Batman yes year one is reprinted a lot, but year two has not been available for a long time and the other issues around it are very rare and hard to get. For more minor characters like Catwoman this is even better collecting things never reprinted including major appearance in other books. These are great books for people interested in reading a specific DC character or team.

Well you can have your opinion, but as a table top player for decades 40K is so bad I quit 15 years ago. Old World is fantastic and it’s my favorite game. Your opinion is your’s, have it. But I totally disagree, 40K is just not balanced at all and you have to chase after the latest hotness just to have an enjoyable game. Never again. Also as for not selling, Old World products are selling out continuously. They literally can’t make enough of it since release. Did you even look at their online shop?

I’ve been around 40K since 1993 so I have the books for all 10 editions. Shooting was always IGYG but combat was not IGYG until 8th edition. Before that everything had an Initiative rating that determined the order units fought. Not to mention you compared weapon skills to determine the required roll to hit.

Im an OPR Tier 2 Patreon.....Im 48, I worked for GW back during 5th ed 40k (best edition by the way) and once I left the company I was so burned out on GW I never really looked back, but I was a big fan of Starfleet Battles and Battletech before 40k. GW's rules have gotten really bad, and a lot more restrictive in many ways, mono pose models, retcon's on lore that is decades old.....bah.....I was done with GW before now Im even less likely to go back. OPR has given the freedom back to the player much like it used to exist before corporate board members discovered they could make more money by standardizing boxes and reducing the product range. OPR and things like it are the future, no doubt in my mind.

Firefight is good, and I started back when it was also "Warpath", where they used the 28mm models but used squad bases to simplify gameplay and increase the game size, aka Apocalypse. Now with Epic Warpath aka Epic 40k coming out, hopefully shipping by November, the universe is getting even more meat on its bones. If anything, the novels are decent ofc, but I recommend getting the Sourcebook first.

Hell yeah, Sergeants deserve more love. I'm about to assemble a Company Heroes squad with a Captain, using that new Horus Heresy MK3 command squad that they're dropping. The "Captain" is going to be the squad Sergeant and they're just going to be a really badass squad, with varied wargear, as opposed to a command squad. I'm going to use that smaller standard that comes with the kit as the squad standard, not the company standard. I also often take my first company Sergeants and run them as Lieutenants/Captains for my battleline company squads. Absolutely agree that, in the lore, we need more representation when it comes to rank and file badasses.

@ScarriorIII4 ай бұрын
@@thechadnerd8562 There is/was. Its the Forward Observer/Lt Roca, it appears to be a web exclusive. As for grimdark? The universe has a cyber dystopia to it, given the technology and corporate elements. For example, check out Dreadball, the universe's bloodbowl equivalent. The Enforcers, given the non-gothic nature of the universe, are more like Halo Spartans than space marines. I would say that given the limited lore in comparison, the game is more open to interpretation than 40k. For example, there are few if any actually named units with paint schemes. This means after understanding the lore of the faction, you're not bound to unit codexes/paint schemes etc. But yes, in many instances, its not so much "grimdark" as it is just dark. Grab that hopeless vibe you get from a good cyberpunk setting, add the vastness of space and insidious corporations to match in size, and then slap in some powerful alien races- then imagine being a single corporate marine in the middle of that...i guess it is grimdark.
@JoeyC7774 ай бұрын
They do a model for Lt. Commander Roca! Plus, much more like Aliens/Blade Runner dark corporate sci fi not Grimdark like 40k.

Firefight is still not grabbing me the same way as OPR. I do like the models and while Firefight might not be the most amazing thing ever, DEADZONE is really good. Also FWIW, The plague are humans who went wrong so, their kit is "reaver-ed" GCPS gear. The Marauders were used as filler troops by the GCPS until they rebelled, so, a lot of their gear is GSPC kit as well. You get to the actual Aliens and the variety kicks in.
@thechadnerd85624 ай бұрын
That’s the cool thing about OPR is that it’s model agnostic so you can play almost any tabletop wargame with those rules and still have the fun of playing out a battle in that world/setting. Highly appealing for narrative players.

Mantic miniatures have come a long way in recent years. My Veermin are a very thematic army with some really cool models, vehicles, and characters. They were around a third the price of an equivalent GW army. Some of the firefight/deadzone miniatures are excellent and the vehicles are very special. I have yet to make the switch but I am pretty sure I will. My research indicates that the rules Mantic make are much better presented, properly tested, and key for me, really fun to play. I already have a number of useable models in my squats, arbitrators, orcs, and others, so no reason not to. Alesio Cavatorre and other ex GW staff members work closely with Mantic these days so its not surprising they are producing the better games. I think the Epic scale game maybe my entry point to Mantic's games frankly.
