Nice video. I can tell you from watching you tighten these calipers you are not tightening quite enough. They might not come loose but should be tighter than you are wrenching. If you are to check with a torque wrench to specs you will see you are slightly under tightening. I'm not trying to be critical of your work just from experience wrenching my whole life I would like to help keep you safe and from something coming loose.

@therealshimo9 ай бұрын
The spring shown at 25:54 - Does it actually make any sense to install that? Don't the upgraded heavy-duty clutch springs already ensure the clutch is fully engaged when the clutch lever is released? Trying to wrap my head around why that actuator arm still has some freeplay at 26:10, when the springs inside the clutch are supposedly stiffer.
@newportcity329 ай бұрын
Better transition from free play to clutch lever engagement. Without it, the free play feels mushy and the lever won't return to its top-most position.
@therealshimo9 ай бұрын
@@newportcity32 Thanks for the response, I get that. So, aside of the stiffer, springier clutch lever, there is no real functional difference to clutch engagement strength, right?

Help! I've successfully installed the clutch and I now need to remount the cover. I pulled the lever back in order to allow the pull rod to slide into the hole, but... at the end, the lever doesn't return in your same position, it stops much earlier! In the video you say I can feel some resistance, this happens when the lever is at the fairing, thus there's no chance to catch the cable, I'm way too far from it! I double checked, mounted and unmounted 1000 times and it's always like this. I also tried to remount the old, toasted clutch with no luck. It seems I can't slide the pull rod into the hole at all. I don't know how's possible. I'm also thinking to make a test and remount WITHOUT the clutch plates, just to test whether I can hook the pull rod. Did you experience something like this? Someone may help?
@newportcity32 Жыл бұрын
Did you unhook the clutch cable on both ends? Does the cover seat fully against the engine? The rod will be difficult to turn by hand without the clutch levers mechanical advantage. Check that the black rod is rotated properly before pushing the cover into place, then rotate the rod as you push the cover more
@giorgiomerlini7308 Жыл бұрын
@@newportcity32 Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, the clutch cable has been disconnected on both ends, but the lever stops way too far to think to connect it. Of course, making mistakes is easy so I'll try again today and I'll pay a lot of attention. Thanks, I'll report the result of my next try.

@@giorgiomerlini7308 what results did you get trying again? running into the same issue as you and after hours wasted on a sunday ive given up for the night. remounted the cover with the arm thing on top of the clutch cover stuck by the faiirng and no slack to remount the clutch lever... will just have to try tomorrow :') please let me knoiw if you figured something out
@giorgiomerlini73089 ай бұрын
@@Uhhlijah97 It worked! After many trials, I made 2 mistakes: first, I put a plate in the wrong order (the first plate should be narrow, I placed wide instead). Then, when I closed, I tried to turn the lever too early so I couldn't hook the pull rod. The new pull rod is shorter so it can be more difficult to hook. Thus, I closed all and only after this I tried turning. I've heard a strong "click" and it worked. This was the most critical part for me.

For anyone who doesn't know be aware that the clutch 'swing arm' which he loosened in order to pull the cover off actually has to be pulled upwards out of the cover in order to give the pull rod the ability to release the cover. You don't want to pull the cover off with the 'swing arm' still in place because it's locking the pull rod into the 'swing arm' pole inside of the engine cover. Look at when he pulls the cover off, there's a black pole running down the center of covers interior with the clutch swing arm at the top of the cover. In the center hole of the engine cover there's an area where the pull rod fits into the black pole which is locked in place by the swing arm at the top of the cover when it rotates which has the pole sticking down through the cover. It's an honest mistake but be very careful because if you damage that swing arm pole it won't be able to actuate the clutch which is what it's there for. Basically you're killing the clutch pulling mechanism by forcing those two parts apart. From what it looks like though it might be possible to rotate the swing arm enough to release the pull rod without lifting the swing arm upwards but somebody would need to verify that. The clutch swing arm at the top of the cover actually lifts directly upward out of the cover like pulling an ignition coil out of the top of the engine cylinder. You have to rotate it first before lifting. Once you pull the clutch swing arm pole upwards it unlocks the two pieces and enables you to remove the cover.
@Ryan_H22 Жыл бұрын
So do you just pull the rod up to release it or do you have to do the disconnect the cable, pull up and rotate? Thanks!
@MyWatchIsEnded Жыл бұрын
@@Ryan_H22 you have to rotate it around and then pull it straight up which will remove it completely. When you rotate it it opens up the locking mechanism on the clutch puller which allows you to remove the plate cover but if you want to ensure you don't damage the locking mechanism you can rotate it and pull it straight up with the clutch plate still attached.

Looking at the old plates, they're symmetrical, so it won't hurt anything if you flip them.
