I just rediscovered this song. The production on the original record is oppressively 80s, but the song itself is beautiful, and so much more musically interesting than 99% of music on the radio today. Jason Scheff is no Peter Cetera, but the vocal production is so tight and the layers of vocals are gorgeous. They didn't need Autotune, they had talent, hard work, and a producer with exacting standards.

What's so wonderful about cover is you truly defined the melody in between the chords. Jam and Lewis' magic - they always have the perfect groove, and phrasing in the vocal over beautiful melody. Of course, the funk (that bass, Terry Lewis is always the funk where Jam brings the jazz influence. I think the original bass synth was played on an OB-8 because oscillator sounds different in the track. It doesn't moan or whine like Minimoog would. Thank you for this. Well Done!

@@TheOfficialRobbyIce It’s Fazioli model right?
@TheOfficialRobbyIce2 ай бұрын
Good question. I used the FUNKY acoustic grand, whatever that happens to be. Their ST GRAND1 and ST GRAND2 voicings drop the hint of Steinway, though there is a factory preset that's called "Fazioli 10'Grand" that uses the ST GRAND2 voicing. Generalmusic wasn't always clear about their voicing authenticity.

Wow!!!!!!! What sound for the piano are using??
@TheOfficialRobbyIce3 ай бұрын
An acoustic grand piano sound is layered with a DX7 Electric Piano on the GEM Promega 3. Via MIDI, a Rhodes sound is triggered on the Yamaha Reface CP which adds another layer. The lead voicing is a "Rock With You" (Michael Jackson) sound that I programmed on the Yamaha Reface DX.
