i don't hate the graphics. a bit juvenile, but that's their market. i'm generally frugal/budget-minded and love finding a deal on skate shoes, it's usually the loud/goofy colorways that go on sale and they're gonna get destroyed anyway. i spent $230 total on my last 8 pairs of skate shoes - 3 vans, 3 etnies, 2 dc. so idk if i'd bother taking the graphics off, but yours turned out well. the beige ones are actually pretty sick. idk why they ever got away from lace protection measures, breaking laces sucks. maybe post an update with how they hold/held up

I like to do that too. My secondary idea would be to powersaw cut the axel excess 😅 but I prefer not to for if my next wheels are wider on the inside.
@colossalfart11 күн бұрын
Grind King had a beautiful solution for this problem with internally threaded axles, so insted of a nut, you had a button screw at the end of the axle. I've been making them DIY and they work like a charm. Too bad the industry never caught on... BTW, what shoes are those?
@Cyan_Orange11 күн бұрын
Rad, I got offset wheels so the bearings sit all the way to one side and as long as you put them on the right way it entirely covers the nut and bolt. real good call to prevent damage there
@diplenski13 күн бұрын
i usually just run wider wheel shape, like a radial, 35-40mm is the sweet spot. i haven't had damaged axle threads in thirty years. having no thread showing makes me feel like they could come off on their own. i have some old thunders i can spin the nuts on/off by hand
@Backtothebasicsskatwboarding12 күн бұрын
@@diplenski thanks for sharing appreciate that. I haven’t any issues with the nuts falling off but I’m a person that keeps up board maintenance like I do with my car😂 idk why I’ve alway checked over my board before ever skate sesh and replace the nuts if needed if they don’t hold ect

why no shields? Edit I have always used sealed bearings
@Tattooper17 күн бұрын
if you are going for longevity sure shield up. if you want best sound pop shields soak em in windex and get them all dried out. I've ran bearings un shielded and dry with that good sound as long as my wheels lasted

@@Tattooper makes sense, where I live there is loads of rain and I run hard wheels so I'd never hear the bearings.

Higher tolerances mean better engineering and materials and processes and finishing as always.
@diddymelone22655 күн бұрын
abec is a rating system for industry bearings. the tolerances applied affect a bearing that is spinning for hours at high speed, much faster than anyone can skate. it says nothing about how well it will function for skateboarding purposes, because industry bearings arent meant to take pressure from all sides, like our bearings do. what I had happen multiple times is that after a while of skating the bearing would somehow deform slightly. not that I could see it with my bare eyes, but the shields suddenly rub against the race ring and slow the bearing down. after I clean them I often can't help but leave the shields out. from my experience, well manufactured bearings (like bronsons higher prices bearings) do not suffer from this quite as much if at all, so I can leave the shields in no problem. however, abec, again do your research, doesnt mean anything in terms of skateboarding. the tolerances in question are not affecting us. its more about the lube, the general construction and how much we smash them on the ground with how much force. skateboard truck axles are also very often not properly worked out, and yes I mean all the good brands like indy, thunder, venture etc. skateboarding hardware doesnt have to conform to industry standards - so far, because what we people care most about is advertising, feeling good and then going outside shredding this stuff to pieces.
@diplenski18 күн бұрын
marketplace is a great option. i have 3 different completes i picked up on the cheap - $60 superior deck, indy trucks, oj wheels. $40 real deck, indy forged hollows, bones wheels. $15 superior deck, thunder forged hollow lights, primitive wheels. they were all hardly ridden, like new, pro-quality brands/parts.

Not sure I agree about "longer means more pop" The shorter the WB the quicker (and higher) the pop it'll be(in my experience) The longer the WB (which they say means more "balance" for transition skating) the steadier the ride(why long boards and cruisers have longer WB's)
@Backtothebasicsskatwboarding19 күн бұрын
@@arielvillaverde9507 the theory behind it The smaller the wheelbase, the closer the front axle is to the rear axle. This ensures that the energy you have to expend to get the deck in the air is less than with a larger wheelbase, which increases leverage. On the other hand, you generate less energy that catapults the deck up. Or in other words. A deck with a larger wheelbase will require more power, but the deck will also pop higher.
@SlashDiaries16 күн бұрын
Your right! The smaller the wheelbase the more responsive the board will be and it’ll make it pop quicker! (14.25 & under) boards with longer wheelbases like (14.5 & up) really start to feel sluggish & heavy in the street. But I can say a lot of this does depend on your height! I’m 5’11 but I ride a 8.75 with a 14.8 wheelbase. I skate the gnarliest park in the world so it’s Necessary haha
