@@thecommission970 such a cool zone. Unique. Nothing like it anywhere in the world in my opinion. You’re genuinely skiing inside of a blown out volcano, and this zone really highlights those features. Enjoy!!

I keep coming back to the video looking for a follow up. Was this a rare epic snow year or is it like this every year? Seriously some of the most playful looking chutes I’ve ever seen. Reminds me of the pinnacles at Big Sky only waaaaay longer and more playful.

@chrisjparke20 күн бұрын
@@skipast75also that first chute was a first descent and the second couloir with the cave was a second descent, the first being over 15 years ago. These zones get skied fairly frequently, every year sometimes, but conditions usually aren’t ideal.

Omg. Great reflection on the day. You said most of what I was thinking. To me now if I can’t ride a line with style, I tend to avoid it. That was survival mode for most of that. You’re gonna want to ride for your whole life. B careful my man. #slydewayz

Haha yeah I still ride. I have two kids now so it’s a bit of a different style, trying to be less aggressive. But hoping to do some rappelling and couloirs if the season allows for it. Tough snowpack this year, it’s been super dangerous out there. Thanks man!!

Terrifying. Reckless. I didn’t expect my first turn in the couloir to literally blind me either. I had to ride most of the couloir blind while holding my breath to not inhale all the snow in the air. I kinda expected to just… land on my butt at the entrance of the couloir after the pillows. But I landed on the tail of my board and something kicked in and next thing I know I couldn’t stop safely.

@@chrisjparke Yea. I used to just stare at it thinking, "Jesus christ." I lived and worked in Telluride for a year and got ~50 days of boarding in that winter, but I never ventured into Bear Creek, let alone across. It scared the shit outta me, and being a ski valet, I made it my personal mission to also scare the shit out of kids from TX (where I'm from, knowing their mentality) going on about how they're going to "drop in to Bear Creek". I'd tell them about a girl whose body wasn't recovered until the snow melt because it was buried under 30 feet of snow. "But hey kid, have fun!" They'd look at my wide-eyed, and I could only hope I prevented a tragedy that day. By the end of that winter I was comfortable with everything Telluride could throw at me inbounds. But graduating to avy courses and so forth is another level. And graduating to reppels and seriously exposed faces is yet another level. Telluride and Bear Creek are grarlier than people realize. And the Grandfather is...the Grandfather. Your video is underrated.

Based on your video you aren't skilled enough to be skiing that terrain you could really kill yourself up there
@chrisjparke2 жыл бұрын
Probably true on this day especially, I was not going for this exit I was trying to get to a different exit, did not traverse far enough. Once I was in it was too late to hike back on the ice and too dangerous to half commit and be stuck to the side of the cliff waiting for a helicopter evac for hours. I made a series of poor choices on this day that resulted in this situation, this wasn’t the intended route.
@carlgallagher4492 жыл бұрын
Hey I’m really interested in doing this exact route I’m just curious on how you legally go about doing it and how you get back to civilization, I’ve been skiing expert terrain since I was 2 and the video looked easily doable by my standards I would love to get in contact about making a journey like thai

Hey man! On this day we had left a vehicle parked in inner basin the day before, as far up to Lockett meadows as we were able to drive until we hit a closed gate. We then got on the opening chair at Agassiz lift at Snowbowl 9am and hiked up from there, over the summit of Agassiz, and from there skied down to the saddle between Agassiz peak and Fremont peak and then hiked up to the top of Fremont Peak. Telemark chute is right off the NNW face of Fremont peak and drops right down into Lockett meadows. Follow the trail down to the car, can take a while if low snow or deep snow.
@chrisjparke2 жыл бұрын
Also totally possible and just as easy (if not easier) to hike back out of inner basin back into the ski resort after skiing the chute. Just head back up to the saddle-ridgeline between Agassiz and Humphreys saddle
