Can you tell me where we can get a new crankshaft damper pulley? Nice Video!
@franantelo57134 ай бұрын
Hi maybe its to late but what are the torque specs and torque procedure on the oil pan? I have the manual but i cant understand it correctly. The first part that goes in the engine block has two torque specs and a bunch of arrows pointing 3 bolts. I must torque this 3 bolts at 40nm and the others at 20nm?
@nottingham_ChrisAllison4 ай бұрын
With regards to the sump sections you can just use your own instinct and an educated guess... 3/8 wrench on the M6 bolts around 10-12 nm... and a short 1/2" wrench on the M8 Bolts

Hello, i just bought a 2002 mk1 focus with 1.8 zetec-e engine, the car was sitting since 2019 and i have a grinding noise in first gear, it goes nice into all gears, a bit stiff clutch and shifting gears but i presume is normal after so many years not been driven, regards.

@ELL23OPC9 ай бұрын
Afternoon bud, can i pick your brain? As i took the belt off the intake cam seemed to spring round and i can grab it and rotate it backwards. Is this normal or is the vtc gear dead? Autodata had no mention of anything to do with the vtc gear, it also mentioned nothing to do with not pulling the tensioning pin all the way out but here we are 😂🤦♂️ Very helpful video though Cheers

@SmeurkeDeKat2 жыл бұрын
IB5's don't have a designated drain plug and are claimed to be sercive-free for life. Nobody that I know of takes that seriously though. Popping out one of the driveshafts will drain the oil. Filler plug is an allan-key bolt inside the plastic housing on the front of the gearbox that holds the shifting cables. Full level is around 10-15mm below the edge of the filler fole. It's not advised to use the hex-bolt below the filler plug as a drain plug, as it holds the detent for the shifting mechanism.

That's really nicely made - and I love your commitment to the original. The spring bolts were an absolutely stupid idea and defied all logic, unless you have a thing about destroying brain cells from carbon monoxide poisoning. A flexi makes far, far more sense. But... The headers now in stainless (again, sanity prevails) is common sense. It should once properly fitted will certainly outlast the life of the car. If only you'd put the flexi in a position were it could be replaced should it fail. Maybe you want to pick up all the requests to remove the drive shafts, engine mounts and virtually remove the engine to drop the headers, then find someone good enough to weld in a new flexi (or both) and do the same in reverse. Nearly a day's work or more. Because no other mechanic would entertain that job! I had a similar looking headers fitted but the flexi is after the main flange on the cat-back mid-pipe, not the header, where it can be easily replaced in around half an hour, only requires one flexi, minimal stripping and doesn't involve a second mortgage to pay for the work to be done locally. A final thing to note about engine mounts which will reinforce (no pun) my point. As you know, Ford produced two mounting styles for the gearbox mount. 1014899 and 1095420. There were therefore two gearchange lever housings - 1085346 and 1088248. The earlier style was the Fiesta mount. That used two threaded bolts inserted from the top of the gearchange lever housing that were threaded into the cast bar through the middle of the rubber of the mount. Later cars used a mount with clearance holes with a mount secured with nuts onto studs that pointed upwards from the gearchange lever housing. Now, the only mount is the Bilstein mount which although it carries the later part number, is the older Fiesta mount with threaded, bolt down holes. So, anyone with a 99-2001 car is stuffed. They can't get the new-style mount. Sure, you can drill out the tapped holes, but the resulting engine height will be wrong as the mount is not the same. The end result being that the mount will simply not get changed. So that excessive movement will allow excess engine rocking, vibration and a woolly gear-change when driving hard or on rally-style sections. And that is why, putting the flexi's on the headers is a bad idea and will lead to broken cars!
