Nice to see someone who understands about the tensioner pin on these engines most garages have no clue

Nikasil linings FCKD after 100,000 miles. This is engine is the best example of planned obsolescence in manufacturing I have ever seen

Hi I have a replacement engine to go in my track car, it’s only done 48k miles do you take on work if so would love to have mine serviced the same and new set cams installed 👍🏻

I followed every single step of your video in the cambelt change and now the car starts but runs so bad(no power an bad reaction of the car at half throthle). It's the timing position or is other thing? I have disconnected the velocity sensor of the gearbox.

Great video, many thanks. Could I ask a cheeky question? I run a standard 1.7 Puma as a track day car. My main battle is keeping on top of the rust, the engine is sweet, which I put down to changing the oil every 3k miles. When these engines came out, oil was specified as semi-synthetic only due to the type of cylinder liners used. Oil tech has now moved on 20 years, does this rule still apply, or would modern full synthetics be OK?
@allisonautomotivediy80886 жыл бұрын
Always use a fully synth in my opinion, it performs much better for longer drain intervals... it won't make a blind bit of difference in terms of the cylinder bore coating
@simonreeves20176 жыл бұрын
Allison Automotive DIY - Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, and your thoughts on the cylinder liners - I'll go fully synthetic next time around, do you have an oil recommendation for the 1.7 Zetec? I've been using Comma X-Flow 5W-30 semi up to now.

@@allisonautomotivediy8088 My mechanic who works with performance engines in motocross and what not told me to use Ester based Bell Ray 10 60 oil. SO far no issues. requires to do longer start warm up and take it easy before you take off but after due to Esters qualities you can go pretty hard on the engine. THese engines are so underrated in my opinion. :)

Hello, I have changed the crankshaft oil seal twice now and it still leaks, is there any special way of doing this? Or what else could cause it to make it leak, also how far does the seal fit in? Really at my wits end with this but love the car please help, Thanks

Sorry I didn't pick up on this at the time I hope you have it sorted now that seal is a pain in the bum

Afternoon bud, can i pick your brain? As i took the belt off the intake cam seemed to spring round and i can grab it and rotate it backwards. Is this normal or is the vtc gear dead? Autodata had no mention of anything to do with the vtc gear, it also mentioned nothing to do with not pulling the tensioning pin all the way out but here we are 😂🤦♂️ Very helpful video though Cheers

Hey, originally came to find out how the timing belt is done on these, but i cant help notice those 2 songs you had playing while cleaning the engine and assembling the oil pan. I cant seem to find, not even with shazam, would you please tell me what pieces they are? Very much appreciated!

Hi. I really enjoyed watching this video. I have a standard 1.7 puma with similar oil leaks. In your opinion what is the cause of the misting of oil around the inlet manifold and oil breather area? Just the cam cover or a mixture of gaskets? Cheers
@allisonautomotivediy80886 жыл бұрын
blow-by issues cause the inlet breather system to get saturated in oily mist... it wouldnt be an issue at all i guess if the engine was removed every 5 years at every cambelt service, and these issues were dealt with a little more often.. The problem is most can't see beyond the belt and W. Pump..lol

Hi maybe its to late but what are the torque specs and torque procedure on the oil pan? I have the manual but i cant understand it correctly. The first part that goes in the engine block has two torque specs and a bunch of arrows pointing 3 bolts. I must torque this 3 bolts at 40nm and the others at 20nm?
@nottingham_ChrisAllison4 ай бұрын
With regards to the sump sections you can just use your own instinct and an educated guess... 3/8 wrench on the M6 bolts around 10-12 nm... and a short 1/2" wrench on the M8 Bolts
@franantelo57134 ай бұрын

Are the big-end and little-end bearings reliable on these engines? Assuming oil maintenance hasn't been abused too much.
@allisonautomotivediy80886 жыл бұрын
I would say so... they certainly don't like those gasket sealing adatives like liquid metal and all that rubbish..

No because he torques pulleys later. So pulleys spin freely when he tightens the belt. And toraues to spec pulleys later. But you must have cam locking tool or make one yourself

@allisonautomotivediy80884 жыл бұрын
You are wrong I'm afraid... The 1.8Focus clutch was designed for a 100hp car years ago.. you really think the 150hp fiesta got the same design... the build/cover design etc is totally different
