So very recently I was at Woodbourne PA with my friend and we are chillin as we just caught CSX1853 leading CSX I032 and a YN2 Trailing CSX M404 as it worked the yard. I see some old lady come over to me as my friend is on the other side of the tracks setting his go pro and some karen reports me for railfanning thinking my tripod can spray nuclear juice and explode a train. I was like "Your shitting me right?" RR Police come and confront the karen and I got a Conrail badge and a few NS memorabelia. Really chill officers but the karen is an idiot. Besides I was standing legal distance. Few days later some fat Karen comes by whilst at woodbourne really excited for CSX 1836 trailing B706 and when the train came the fat karen kicked my tripod on the other SEPTA tracks thank god avoiding the highballing oil train but ruined my shot of it. The Karen ran off as I threatened to call the cops. Karens at Woodbourne these days are fucked up people.

this clown does not understand what the word escalate means, because he keeps using it even though the situation doesn't seem to have escalated judging by his narrative.

Interesting and sad how railfanning in the US is different than here in Germany. Here, the train drivers are chill about railfanning and no one calls the police. Sometimes I can even ask motorists if they could halt before my camera, so they don't photobomb the level crossing shot. Greetings from Germany

I grew up in Oakdale during the 1950's and 60's. My parents use to own the original Oakdale cycle shop right close to what was known the Surplus store. Its now a marine supply. That RR station use to be home to an old couple who sold tickets for the trains. There were no platforms by the tracks. And on the east side of the tracks where you would wait for the west bound train was a wooden open shed. Barn swallows would nest in the rafters. And you would get dive bombed. Across from the station was a grass field by the highway. There was an apple tree and a pear tree. You could pick apples and pears every year. The track crossing for cars was further east of the station. The road would wind leftthen sharp right over the tracks. I think you can still see the old concrete bases for the signals. There were no gates. The gas station use to be the post office. And mail was hung by the tracks to be picked up. The Prem family sold gas and did the mail. My family use to drive down the north side of the tracks and pick blueberries. Oakdale Bohemia road was all woods. And close to sunrise highway was a large sand pit. The area was beautiful back then. Lots of wildlife. Box turtles, etc. I use to swim in Byron lake formally called second pond. It has changed so much that i dont recognize the area no more. I have since retired and moved off the Island 17 years ago. Living now in the forest of PA.

I’m from a small town in west Georgia and there main tourist industry is train spotting. What they did was simply build a small park with a seat and a large clock. Everyone is welcome to sit and watch trains to their heart’s content and it’s in a safe public space well alway from the tracks.

Nothing wrong with being a railfan. i like trains too. Sone people should mind their own business and the cops should've arrested that person for wasting their time.

It’s sad that when most people see a person by railroad tracks they think that you’re going to commit suicide instead of simply looking at trains. Sadly I think that suicide IS the most common reason to stand by tracks. Keep loving what you love.

For railfanners: I get what he's saying, but if the cops see us with a camera, why the hell would we kill ourselves?
@johnthomsen88024 ай бұрын
The important part of this is POLICE came to see if you were not going to jump in front of a train. Nobody should ever give attitude or be disrespectful. This is why I hate railfanning now because it is anything but what we used to do. Telling a law enforcement officer that it is your right when they are suspicious of why you are there is a sure ticket to getting arrested. Ambulances and also transit police came because these people were concerned about you. You took them away from a real emergency. Were you on the right of way? You can be away from the tracks and still be on the right of way. None of this public area crap and this is constitutionally protected business you hear in videos. Some rights of way can be 200 feet wide. Secondly, I lived near an NJT commuter line- The Pascack Valley Line. Two people committed suicide not far from my apartment. One was 19. The other was a man who jumped in front of a train at a grade crossing. A sheet with blood covered what was left of him. The traffic delay was horrible. The firemen hosing off the red tinged water on the crossing is burned in my mind. The hard part of being a teenager is thinking you are so correct on everything. As you get older, you realize you aren't as right as you thought. You get lessons that are hard learned. Is the hobby really worth it? Is it worth getting arrested and going to jail? You can still photograph trains. You should look into photo charters where specific areas are set up for photographers. Western Maryland Scenic and Horseshoe Curve in Altoona are great places that are set up to photograph trains. If you love trains, volunteer at a railroad museum. Lawn Guy Land has one.

We usually stick to public places near the railroad we only had it happen once but it was reasonable why because the place where we were filming was a dangerous backroad lol.

Got to watch where you're standing because if you're not on "public property", there's little you can argue with the po-po.
