They should have included this on the soundtrack album.

I thought the one actress was Elinor Donahue but then I remembered Elinor wasn't that old. I loved this movie. I had heard the song but never saw the movie. It was a time when there was romantic love not sexual lust.
I dated a guy once who looked just like Antonio banderas. He's gone now. He was the sweetness of my youth.

Souther didn't write Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. The song was written by Jerome Kern.

It's a nice melody. Hearing over and over for 2 hours because it's the only song the wrote for this movie is a bit much.

I love the score to this film, but I especially love how this song’s arrangement was interwoven throughout the entire film. From the beautiful scene showing the coming of spring to the garden, when the choir children are singing the melody, to the orchestral parts, to when it’s played melodramatically during tense moments. Then it’s played quietly at the peak of the film when Colin sees his father outside… and then again at the end when Colin walks and everyone is happy. Finally, Linda’s version plays on the credits.
