@@sadlittleratboy lots of elemental symbolism in their characters. Reborn V is violent, passionate, unquenchable and destructive. Reborn Evey is present, tranquil and immovable. Nowadays, almost everything is being destroyed. And if we look closely, the same story is told everywhere for this destruction. Something about diversity, lesbians, strong powerful women who can be leaders and so on. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong or exaggerating, maybe I've become too sensitive and intolerant, but I can't help it. The last really strong moment for me was episode 4, when Rhaenyra got involved with Daemon, which was really tense; but from then on it went downhill for me and I stopped watching after the time jump (i.e. from episode 6). I gave up hope for good stories in big productions years ago. Let's concentrate on the small films from smaller studios ... they still exist somewhere, don't they?

actually it's both male and female leads (but it is more noticeable with the 'strong woman' archetype).. they used to consider morality now it's might over right (whoever punches harder is the hero). the story sucks if the protagonist never has to overcome their own issues and/or something that's more powerful than them (they don't earn their heroism anymore).

If it's me, I would choose Duchess Sarah Marlborough. In The Favourite (2018), she's played by Rachel Weisz. When you read her history, you will find that she came from a humble family who then she saved Anne, future Queen of England. She used her wits and intelligence to get top rankings especially her connection with Anne. Anne was the Queen, but she was the one who ran the country. And that's how strong female figures depicted if you use old past movie. Sarah O'Connor survived from Terminator. Even though she must lose the father of her baby, she kept living and fighting. Breaking from asylum. After her death, she still prepared guns in her grave yard to ensure the future.

I knew i wouldn't like rings of power based on the title and promo. 10 minutes of that insufferable lead, and me and my woke feminist girlfriend were bored out of our skulls. How is anyone going to like a protagonist who has no character arc and no virtue whatsoever? What women want in reality vs what they idealize is completely lost on them and the rest of us. Women are constantly obsessed with their shortcomings and want us to be aware of them, but also want to be seen as powerful. The writer must be acutely aware of this paradox and not play into the idealism of women.

Current female characters are imbued with 'girl-boss' level of impossible/historically/cannon incorrect powers without every explaining why they are who they are, just to make them be able to step up against the men, while weakening and belittling the men down to dumb buffoons. What do you think that says about the writers of such characters? Do they really think that little of women that they practically have to make them superpowered to be equal? Where the Crawdads Sing and the first Alien movie are excellent examples of how to do female empowerment the right way. I cheered for them at the end. But this garbage? As soon as I see wokeness in the first 5 minutes, I switch it off. Not worth my time,and if I see it a lot I discontinue my membership to that channel. And the ratings show many are doing the same. The only way to vote and make them feel it is with your wallet.
@johntheknight30622 ай бұрын
The character is only as intelligent as the author. Female characters in new age movies are product of hidden insecurities, repressed feeling of inferiority and egoistic arrogance. Notice how all these characters are so similar to whoever writes them. These women try to insert themselves in the story and remove all the negative traits they know to have while in reality they are only enforcing them because they just aren't intelligent and competent enough.
@mckayhatch67232 ай бұрын
It goes a long way when a character is likable and cool. We learn to like the characters when we see them triumph. But we also psychologically relate to the character because we see them go through struggles. That’s what gets us as an audience invested in the character. so much of Hollywood these days is devoid of that. And I really want to get back to it. Whether they are a man or a woman, give them flaws and give them strengths. Let’s see them change and grow. Let’s have an actual character arc. Let’s make stories great again.
@mikis48632 ай бұрын
It's possible - at least in some cases - where they write "too perfect" empowered women because there are so few of them compared to the males. You can have a Samwise because you also have Aragorn, Borimir, Legolas, and more. Having a single male character who shows his compassionate, caring side doesn't label all the male characters that way. Considering all the male characters just in Fellowship of the Ring, there's a wide range of strong or compassionate or silly or wise male characters. Not one is the representative of the male species. We don't usually have that much room in the female characters.
@Vivifyre2 ай бұрын
It makes sense in theory - less female characters means less character options - but unfortunately in practice i don't think it works this way. I think the Galadriel problem comes about because modern writers are insistent that their female characters SHOULD represent all women and they therefore always write them in the same "strong and flawless" way - to write them any other way would reflect badly on the gender as a whole (or so they believe). It wasn't always this way; look at the women of Firefly for example - Zoe was so much different from Kaylee, who was also really different from Inara - and all were a million miles away from characters like saffron. All strong, memorable characters written for love of story rather than adherence to agenda. Strangely enough too - in modern movies with majority female characters (Ghostbusters for example) the problem seems to intensify rather than resolve. There were more than enough women in that cast to justify really different character types but they won't do it 🤷♂️

I always loved the character of Clarice, and the actor Jodie Foster! Jodie represents strong women characters (please don't say "female"..it is considered rather Ferengi today), so often for the very reasons you describe. And while I was reluctant to her a man discuss strong women, I think you did a decent job. We've had vulnerable male heroes for awhile; the ground there was broken thought not always followed and it would be wonderful to see more of it. I think people write women as invulnerable as if to make up for something, while also limiting their humanity as if it's bad to show human limits. Working despite those limits is what makes us ALL strong. So please, keep giving examples of well written women characters in your view. I like where you are going with this, and it's never redundant. It doesn't come up nearly often enough.

The core of the problem is as mentioned here in the video: The story writers do not themselves understand what makes a strong character. In fact, they themselves are of very weak character, looking at people insanely superficial, thus judging them simply by visible traits like color of skin or gender. In order to then make some one "strong", they literally think "strength is the absence of weakness", which is absurd, because it is often our weaknesses who give us our biggest strength in the time of need (fear of losing loved ones, fear of death, fear of pain, etc...). Thus, writing a "strong" character who has no weaknesses in fact voids the character of any incentives he/she may have to be strong, leaving behind an empty husk of a person, which is more like a humanoid robot than a true human. Therefore, when this humanoid "strong" female robot has no fear based on the events unfolding, why should we as an audience? When the character pretends there is nothing to fear, why should be be engaged in their journey? We should not, and we are not.

Well thought out video. Have to point out that I read a summary of the sequel (both the book and the movie) and I am so glad I didn't read or watch it because I would have RAGED. The book in particular ends with Clarice in a situation that made me want to bitch slap the author for how he mangled Clarice. I don't know WHAT he was thinking. How can you create such a nuanced relatable but heroic character and then turn her into what he did. I almost want to spoil it so that no one is tempted to read the book if they haven't already. I won't out of respect for the other users of the internet but I strongly suggest you either don't look up anything about the sequel OR at most read a summary like I did. The writer and the publisher do NOT deserve as much as 5 cents for that atrocity. It is like between books the author suddenly started to hate women. I don't get it. Thank you! This has been bothering me. Everythijg I watch and read presents aggressive, masculine, short-haired, women in male cloths as the ultimate goal of a woman or girl. As if anything feminine can only be despised or seen as weak. Our society is destroying and condemning the existence of the feminine. The concepts of masculine and feminine should not have to be absolutely destroyed and abolished for women to appear significant in a story! Yes, visit this again! The other complaint that I have is the constant forst satanic, cult, and twisted religiosity without any moral foundation, conteibuting development, division of stadards (good vs evil? - NO! Evil = oppressed good, and good = controlling evils). The constant symbolism and cult mentality being shoved down our throats is exhausting. I am a Christian, and I look forward to the bliss of a film with absolutely no religipis content, because the constant mochery of anyone having a moral foundation, historical culture, or social norms and respectable expectations is constantly condemned. Every symbol has to have a horrifying real-world background behind it, but be portrayed in a good light. Deities and demons to whicj people actually burned their own children alive in offering to, or for which the SAd little kids are now portrayed as misunderstood forces that we can all not only relate to, but should respect, permit, promote, and invest in, even romantically. Same with the symbols and what they represent! The oroborus (snake eating it's tail), pentagrams, goats, butterflies, the sadar Pan (actual being devtoted to SAing every living thing regardless of age or gender!), demons!, fallen angels!, the Devil! - all portrayed as praiseworthy and worth emulating! I can't watch, read, or play any game or anythijg without unholy, violent, wicked, historically well-known beings, mythology, religions, symbols, and all being touted as worthy of emulating. Inversely, having morals, faith, marital devotion, love of children, a want for family, respect for loved ones, hopes for a future that is not centered on career until death drags you away, and basic common sense morality is mocked and belittled as wicked. I am not saying all the programming has to drown you in the blood of Christ, but what happened to geowing up, admitting you are wrong, learning from your mistakes, becoming a better person, falling in love and pursuing a committed marriage and not simply fooling around with the next hot person who walks by, not breaking the law, not celibrating murdering for the sake of every little offense imaginable, not betraying the good guys, actually having real good guys, not TPKing civilians, not robbing people, ot holding an insatiable Grudge that compels you to desteoy everyone and everthing younever loved to get to that one person. Shows used to teach things. Life used to have lessons. Stories used to make you laugh, cry, fear, rethink your life, forgive others, spend time and tell folks you love them while you got them, and even pray for things you never condsidered, perhaps even go out and pursue something. What happend to shows, comics, books, games and more with actual Life qualities in them, and not simply a celibration of mocking and hating the world while committing ceasless violence while yourself is a wicked and cruel person. The only difference between the protaganist and the villain is that the villain has a cause people found worth rallying behind, and the hero has shared STIs with the entire party at some point, as well as the all the pretty enemy units, and half of the 14-24 year old female civilian population. 🤮 Bring meaning, purpose, humanity, standards, and hope back to fiction!!! Morals are good! Edit: just noticed your sub count. I hope you grow in good, quality content that does not give way to oppressive social regimes, fetishes, or the rest. May the Lord YHVH-GOD bless your good content and guide you therein, and help you to overcome the attacks. In the name of Yahoshua, selah. Please, don't give in, give up, and become like the others. Don't forsake standards for people who hate freewill choice and commitment. You are not alone, simply hated. It is okay to be hated by enemies - you should not expect love from those who seek your destruction. Cherish the support of the moral who value you in Truth as a person, a human being, a capable creat-ur-e. You are precious, and hold worth, no matter what the nasty people say. Remember, the ones who often speak the most and the loudest are the hateful and fools with the least to say. The wise wait, and share their treasures of wisdom with ears that hear, for they know it is wasted on malicious fools.
