Lovely little knife great idea, for me the second bevel was a mistake, for such a thin blade the scandi grind polished off would have been perfect.

Really cool long angle setup for beveling!

such a short short tang....I cannot trust a knife with such a short tang...give me a full tang blade anyday...everyday.

Work is okay. But the wooden handle will most likely fail soon.

Nice innovation and improvisation, especially the file guide. Maybe weld a piece of scrap steel onto the blade to add a tang and improve the overall strength?

Heat treatment for stainless? Interesting 🤔
@jagoq538 күн бұрын
Yeah, also not necessary as the bevelling was cold-worked.

I have done something similar with scissors. For my most recent one, I just left the original handle and sharpened the one side to as sharp as I could get and it's now expressly for cutting plastic because the metal doesn't seem hard enough to retain an edge for wood, plus I have a bunch of knives. Anyway, it came out great!

In the meantime I'm waiting for the blade to temper, I'll go and take the car apart, bolt by bolt, so I can see if there are any spare bits I could use.. Then I'll build a conservatory and get a 20 tonne stamping press. Once I've done that I'll finish off this cut all knife that has now gone blunt. Oh, I forgot to walk the dog. I think I hear my wife coming back from the shop now, "Hi honey, what you want for dinner? What have you done with the car? I bought a new kitchen scissors, they came as an offer with two carving knives"

Sorry to say, it's pretty dull after sharpening, bad cut. Even visually, I can see uneven surfaces.

Great job! Personally, i would have tried to solder the blade onto a strip of metal the same size and shape as the wood you used in the middle of your handle. But that's just me: "full tang" blades are the safest in my opinion.

Very pretty wood and excellent craftsmanship! Well done! I do have a question, why did you put in into the toaster oven? was it to soften it?
@VanHorn2102 ай бұрын
Thank you! I put the wood in the toaster oven to help it fully dry out. Because it was a piece of driftwood, It was retaining a lot of moisture
