I hate that Lettermans drummer had to play on almost every live performance. As a drummer myself, i would have been furious if i wasnt allowed to play my own song on that show

Perfect pop song. It ticks all the boxes. Like someone else said, it's timeless. Would have been a big hit, no matter when it came out. Kind of does sound 60s,ish.
