It is not a game, but rather a Demo scene in Godot. Check the GitHub page in the description and try it yourself, it runs well on my 1660super. Or download a compiled version from here: perfoon.itch.io/abandoned-spaceship-godot-4-demo

Pre-generate everything in the level upfront and isolate only what's visible in the viewport. Works for multiplayer.

Love it. I just started learning Godot and game development in general to make my own game. I'm learning to make 2D platform games to learn and get used to Godot, but this gives me hope to make my game 3D. My game is space oriented so I've searched "space" in the asset's library project in Godot and found your spaceship demo and it is beautiful. Thank you

In static scene ANY engine can make nice pic! Main key of all engines is how they are powerful and flexible for dynamic world (games, CAD, etc). What a benefit to have cr_p like OpenGL, if you waste YEARS to make smth useful? Engine should cover most of game needs, including "destruction" (weak point of most engines).
@Perfoon
@Perfoon Жыл бұрын
Godot is an incredibly flexible and easy to use engine. A real joy to work with. The new Godot 4 has a nice dynamic GI option as well, displayed here by another fellow developer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y321Z4WgrZWbd6s It is also possible to re-bake the lighting at runtime, however it is not as smooth as it could be. So if you need destructible environment and dynamic GI, then maybe check UE5 and lumen at the time being.

Dagor engine (well known for War Thunder and Enlisted) just got opensourced. It has fully dynamic ligting system you might want to check and these games are well known for their dynamic environments. Wait until they publish some more samples, so it could be used in production.

Just to give you some numbers. I'm running the demo on a notebook in full screen (1920x1080) with a Nvidia GTX 1650. In the hangar I get 56 FPS, outside slightly above 60 FPS. In window mode more than 100 FPS. It would be cool if you could make a tutorial on how to make a scene look that good!

@Perfoon

The arcade machine is currently running a video, altough the same technique can be used to play another game as well, as it just renders the content of a viewport.
@pierrotA

Godot will never have the level of realism of Unreal, but it's not a bad thing. UE is really impressive visually but also very heavy and do not work on all machines. Godot engine is very light and work on almost every machine. Every engines have pros and cons, and the way they work is very different.
@igorgiuseppe1862
@igorgiuseppe1862 7 ай бұрын
@@pierrotA i think we can catch up. i mean, its not like unreal can make their graphics look 10x better in the future or anything like that, so if godot keep evolving and they dont have how to evolve too much we can catchup. soon or later epic will have to invest in other stuff like user experience for their engine users instead.
@pierrotA
@pierrotA 7 ай бұрын
@@igorgiuseppe1862 I worked years on UE and I'm now on Godot. But I do not agree. Technologies like Lumens cost billions to make... One day Godot will have a similar technology, but then UE will have make something even more realistic. In addition, even if Godot have Lumens and other advanced technologies tomorrow, it would make the engine very heavy... Which is not their goal.
@igorgiuseppe1862
@igorgiuseppe1862 7 ай бұрын
@@pierrotA i dont think we can get much more realistic than unreal already is. it may be heavy, but soon or later we will have enoguh hardware that even the potato pcs from that year would be able to run this. as for the cost, sure the tech is expensive to do, it can be done by far less thanks to the help of volunteers, i mean, look at blender for example... godot is also in a good track record to receive more money, maybe more than blender considering they are an younger project and are already making a good fraction of blender earnings, i doubt they will have a fraction of the money that epic does, but i think epic will have to invest in something else, the issue is, by the point that godot get those graphics, it might not worth using it anymore because unreal would have all it benefits and more.

@Perfoon

This project was built for Vulkan renderer (Forward+), I have not tested nor optimized it for GL3. It might be possible to get it working on GL3 as well, but it will not be 1 click solution, but rather requires quite a lot of setting tweaking and rebaking.
