Bro as you can see from my pfp too, I absolutely loved sonny boy. Rewatched it a few times since it came out. Every time I watch it, I learn something new about it, and about myself. I’m at a time where I’m struggling to find a place in this world, and this video has opened my eyes. Thank you so much. You have no idea how much this video meant for me!

on 1:32:20, what is your theory about hoshi, god and the inventor of death being the same person ? (i'm praying that you respond to this comment, i need an explanation, i'm beggin)
@olafsomethingКүн бұрын
It's barely even a theory. It's more just that I noticed how the three characters of War, Hoshi, and the inventor of death share the same character traits/developments. I think you could look at Hoshi, the inventor of death, and War, as being the same person/different persons going through one long singular arc, in the chronology of Hoshi => Inventor of Death => War, with the last two overlapping a bit in the frame of time. Starting off with Hoshi, he starts off revering god and following him blindly (literally closing his eyes when god bestows his visions upon him), however, Hoshi gets betrayed by god. During the Director's Cut Project, it's revealed that his visions are not necessarily predetermined truths, even though god posed them as such. He then goes off on his own adventure along with a group of classmates. The first thing we hear about the inventor of death chronologically is that he lived in a This World where, if I remember correctly, the people held god in high regard and respected the rules of This World through fasting and everything. However, the inventor of death himself reviled god and hated the rules and laws of This World, resulting in his drive to challenge those rules and want to create death. Starting off with this, I don't think it's far-fetched to assume Hoshi would despise god after everything god put him through. He lied to Hoshi about his fate, and he basically betrayed his faith. When Hoshi sets off with his classmates, he's optimistic, and he says, "we still have our freedom!" However, as Rajdhani found out in his 2000 years of journeying through This World, the endless freedom of This World becomes meaningless, and it makes you apathetic towards life itself. This explains why Hoshi would start engaging in experiments of murder and suicide, even though he seemed like a person who cared deeply about the well-being of his classmates at first. In his immortality, Hoshi stopped caring about morality, the rules of the school, and life itself. Instead, he just wanted to get back at god for causing him this suffering. Now then, we come to War. As Yamabiko notes, War's ultimate objective was to kill god. He hated god, not unlike the inventor of death. War also has all these medals he got as a reward for killing people, even though death supposedly doesn't exist in This World. Maybe those "kills" are from his experiments in murder and suicide Rajdhani talks about regarding the inventor of death. Also, if Hoshi is war, it would explain another dimension to why he tells Yamabiko, 'You have seen me around'. The final reason that ties it all together is the way the inventor of death and War both die. They both die during the invention of death. However, War dies at the hands of Asakaze, and the inventor dies by his own invention, being death. Rajdhani explains the inventor of death became apathetic and well-adjusted when he died, and that's the exact same state we find War in when he's falling into that cliff. He's empty and ambitionless. That cliff is a wound in This World. It's also that wound that Nozomi falls into and dies. Maybe this cliff is the invention of death itself. As Rajdhani says, the inventor had left This World, so if that cliff really is a split in the skin of This World, then by falling into it, you would no longer be "inside" This World. I don't know if I'm making sense anymore tbh, but basically if the inventor succeeded in killing himself by gradually becoming more apathetic towards life, then Asakaze finished the job by turning him into a static object, something like that, idk, as I said it's a pretty loose theory. Also the two visuals we get of the inventor of death both look like War and Hoshi. The first visual, being his shadow against the ground, looks like War, and the second visual, being his face and torso after he gets up from his electric chair, looks like Hoshi. It's a mediocre theory, but I like it. Anyway, thanks for watching!

12 minutes in and you havent stopped spitting straight facts. I watched sony boy since the first episode aired. When it finished i knew this show was something big and special but i also didnt understand it. There was almost no fandom for me to find others peoples interpretations, and it seems to still be the case. I planed to rewatch it as soon as i watched the last episode but life got in the way and i forgot how special this show was for me since non of my friends knew about it and i had no one to talk about it with. The soundtrack is also amazing and i listened to it on repeat for a month after finishing the show. Thank you for makin this and reminding me about it!! I hope more people see this

I watched this anime when it came out, every week, and honestly I didn't really like it, it was probably a mixture of watching it one episode a week and not remembering all the details from one episode to the other and personal taste. Don't get me wrong, I thought some things were brilliant, but all together just didn't leave me satisfied. But I've honestly never seen or heard anyone talk about it, since after it finished I just kinda dropped thinking about it. It's a pleasure to see that someone enjoyed it and even decided to make an essay video on it, thank you for your hard work, I'll definitely watch this to grasp a new perspective!

I really have mixed feelings. I really want to watch this video, like too much, but I'm also writing something big about the show, I have like hundreds of lines of analysis on every little things for a complete analysis of everything, and by seeing the chapters of the video I see some subjects I want to talk about too, so I don't want to watch and to be influenced by your vision of the show and to copy you unconsciously. Maybe I should watch for developing my points of view, I just don't know. Sorry for talking about me, your video seems really great and I will watch it for sure when I can.

No I totally get what you mean! I mean, I worked on these interpretations for years and they are definitely my own but there's also a little inspiration from other video essays and whatnot. I started watching Doctor Who in 2013 when it started getting translated to czech (also when I was 8). It is my favourite piece of media ever. But as pretty much everyone Chibnall Era was when I started losing interest. I watched only 4 episodes of season 11. Except Orphan 55 I watched all of season 12 (sadly) and when season 13 came around and everyone was saying "Yeah it's a bit better." I realized it's better but never will be more than maybe fine. So I didn't watch it. I disliked the idea of RTD returning, because Doctor Who needed something fresh, not a return to its peak. But I knew the episodes would be goood. Star Beast was half-baked and flawed (Rose Nobel should've gotten more focus) and I kinda accepted I will most likely not enjoy Doctor Who anymore. But WIld Blue Yonder is fuckin amazing. The best in years. Doctor Who right now is fun. It could be better. But baby steps. Boom, 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble prove to be great TV. The rest is a mixed bag, but that's also a part of Doctor Who. I hope the next season will be better, but we'll see and I'll definitely watch it.
@olafsomething20 күн бұрын
I think it will take a looong time before Doctor Who reaches the peaks of the 2009-2016 era. But also, that just means how good the show was at a certain point. I definitely get how you feel, I think the show is on the right track though.

I hate this platform man, KZbin SUCKS and i hate how it has such a strangle hold over longer form content. The esoteric algorithm, it's outdated copyright claims, the rampant AI and bot channels, i hate it here... They gave you a strike on an unpublished video?? That's just insane man... I know other version of video sharing platforms exist, but they get barely even 10% of the same traction that KZbin does, and i think still suffer from many of these same problems. Great video so far I'll get to the rest when I can (I'm about 1/3 of the way through) I have one note that I think you got the sunflower and dandelion metaphor the wrong way around. Sunflowers grow towards the sun, always seeking the light, dandelions stay put and don't move. Naturally this is how nagara sees himself, someone unambitious and stuck, what's interesting is that's how nozomi sees herself too.
@olafsomething21 күн бұрын
Oh hey! Awesome to see you here. Are you watching the broken version here on KZbin or the unedited one on patreon? Also I interpreted the sunflower-dandelion metaphor in the way that a sunflower just stares at the sun, unmoving, while a dandelion's seeds blow away towards new places at the end of its lifecycle (mostly during spring/summer), and finds new places to grow through its seeds.
@Roggoll21 күн бұрын
@@olafsomething broken version cause I'm not a patron (yet) but I think what Nozomi says is: "If there was a place that shone brighter than where you were at, would you want to go see it, or would you stay where you are?" which is why I would interpret the sunflower as the one that reaches towards the light. Because sunflowers always grow towards the sun. but yeah I'll definitely finish the video at some point, possibly tomorrow but I've got a busy few days ahead. Like what I see so far!
@Keubab20 күн бұрын
I got the same interpretation as you Roggol at first, but olaf's can be the correct one: the idea of the sunflower staying put and watching the sun seems more logical, but I also thought that the dandelion can be the inaction too, it changes with the spring, it waits for change to come to it, like Nagara. so idk which one is the correct interpretation lol
@aHeroWith1000Names17 күн бұрын
I always thought Nozomi thinks of herself as dandelion because a sunflower is a conformist. Its movement is solely tied to the sun, no autonomy of its own; dandelion is fine with its place, it doesn't need to chase the sun, doesn't need to change anything. Dandelion is fine with itself.
@loadingscreen888810 күн бұрын
I think the dandelion is like shot your shot kind of way. The way they reproduce/appear in another place is by the wind with full of uncertainty but they still ride the wind with lots of attempts to reach a better place. Nozomi already answered the meaning of these flowers before jumping into the void for a chance to reach her light, but I think Nagara is a little negative at first and is a dandelion in the "I have nothing matters left to lose, so why not?". He became the dandelion in the same way as Nozomi with "life is full of unexpectable, so why don't I try" as his final line. He left Nozomi alone because he followed Yamabiko's advice and did not always look at his light(Nozomi) because he was scared of losing it, like a sunflower. Also, he saw Nozomi helping Asakaze as well with the bird being a baby because Asakaze is childish. Dandelion can fly like bird. I guess
