HANDS DOWN THE BEST ANALYSIS OF SONNY BOY ON THE PLATFORM!! What a remarkable video, not only was it incredibly informative but it was pretty funny too 😂 Super creative and fun transitions when mimicking actual scenes from the show!! I also love how you included parts of yourself and your life when cementing themes from the show. Very clear that this was made with a deep passion and love for the anime. A undisputed classic when adding to the pantheon of this shows discussion!

12 minutes in and you havent stopped spitting straight facts. I watched sony boy since the first episode aired. When it finished i knew this show was something big and special but i also didnt understand it. There was almost no fandom for me to find others peoples interpretations, and it seems to still be the case. I planed to rewatch it as soon as i watched the last episode but life got in the way and i forgot how special this show was for me since non of my friends knew about it and i had no one to talk about it with. The soundtrack is also amazing and i listened to it on repeat for a month after finishing the show. Thank you for makin this and reminding me about it!! I hope more people see this

First off, incredible essay. I'm sure this is a well I'll be returning to again and again as I continue to re-watch the show. A couple details I noticed about the show while watching this video: 1. Ace, when throwing his pitches in the baseball game, is seen surrounded by dandelions growing around his pitcher's mound. Ace is a sunflower that suddenly found himself transplanted into a whole different place, one which he could not grow and flourish, and to add insult to injury, the other lesser students have manifested these powers that made them special. Now he's surrounded by the lowly concrete dwelling dandelions, and they're THRIVING. So the moment they start asking him for help, he sees his opportunity to show just how much better this sunflower is, and hopefully relieve this frustration he's been feeling. But in the end, it's his actions that end up allowing the dandelion of Nagara to grow, which only worsen his own frustration. This tiny piece of imagery of Ace standing on the pitcher's mount surrounded by growing dandelions encapsulates his whole character arc, and that's freaking cool. 2. This one is more of a question, but within the world of Sonny Boy, is God dead? Death, as we've seen is more metaphorical than literal in This World. The eternity that Rajdhani has lived for eventually leads him to become indifferent. A forest. As we've seen, God himself, is indifferent to the pains and suffering of the students. He is merely "rolling the dice". By this perspective then, is God dead? If so, why then is he bent on removing War from the picture? War poses the threat of death, but by the metric of This World isn't God already dead? Honestly, I'm not sure what the answer is here. God and War are characters completely stump me. But I figured I would at least share that thought here.
@olafsomething16 күн бұрын
That's such a cool observation about the dandelions! Definitely paying attention to that next time I'm watching! And omg yes that question has been on my mind too, I was literally thinking about that yesterday. I think maybe God might be an exception to the rule of people turning into static objects when they die (because he's god), but his indifference and immortality do kind of make room for an argument that by Sonny Boy's logic, God is dead. Incredibly cool catch!

Great video so far I'll get to the rest when I can (I'm about 1/3 of the way through) I have one note that I think you got the sunflower and dandelion metaphor the wrong way around. Sunflowers grow towards the sun, always seeking the light, dandelions stay put and don't move. Naturally this is how nagara sees himself, someone unambitious and stuck, what's interesting is that's how nozomi sees herself too.
@olafsomething14 күн бұрын
Oh hey! Awesome to see you here. Are you watching the broken version here on KZbin or the unedited one on patreon? Also I interpreted the sunflower-dandelion metaphor in the way that a sunflower just stares at the sun, unmoving, while a dandelion's seeds blow away towards new places at the end of its lifecycle (mostly during spring/summer), and finds new places to grow through its seeds.
@Roggoll14 күн бұрын
@@olafsomething broken version cause I'm not a patron (yet) but I think what Nozomi says is: "If there was a place that shone brighter than where you were at, would you want to go see it, or would you stay where you are?" which is why I would interpret the sunflower as the one that reaches towards the light. Because sunflowers always grow towards the sun. but yeah I'll definitely finish the video at some point, possibly tomorrow but I've got a busy few days ahead. Like what I see so far!
@Keubab13 күн бұрын
I got the same interpretation as you Roggol at first, but olaf's can be the correct one: the idea of the sunflower staying put and watching the sun seems more logical, but I also thought that the dandelion can be the inaction too, it changes with the spring, it waits for change to come to it, like Nagara. so idk which one is the correct interpretation lol
@aHeroWith1000Names10 күн бұрын
I always thought Nozomi thinks of herself as dandelion because a sunflower is a conformist. Its movement is solely tied to the sun, no autonomy of its own; dandelion is fine with its place, it doesn't need to chase the sun, doesn't need to change anything. Dandelion is fine with itself.
@loadingscreen88883 күн бұрын
I think the dandelion is like shot your shot kind of way. The way they reproduce/appear in another place is by the wind with full of uncertainty but they still ride the wind with lots of attempts to reach a better place. Nozomi already answered the meaning of these flowers before jumping into the void for a chance to reach her light, but I think Nagara is a little negative at first and is a dandelion in the "I have nothing matters left to lose, so why not?". He became the dandelion in the same way as Nozomi with "life is full of unexpectable, so why don't I try" as his final line. He left Nozomi alone because he followed Yamabiko's advice and did not always look at his light(Nozomi) because he was scared of losing it, like a sunflower. Also, he saw Nozomi helping Asakaze as well with the bird being a baby because Asakaze is childish. Dandelion can fly like bird. I guess

23:39 This is when I realized I want to see this video and not just put it on the background due to the shot you made in relation to the video. Where you are outside near the window looking out to the forest while we the audience is just outside of it. It shows that we are separate from the world however you are in it and still needs to marvel at the beauty of it.

37-39(on the patron video since it is the true version): Man, your choice of music could not be more fitting than the song "I hear a Symphony." The singer tells a story about how meeting a person changed everything, how they see, feel and experience life. Using that song further shows the moment's importance in the story of these two people meeting was a life-changing event for Nagara. Also how you were able to analyze the scene was just chef's kiss.

Amazing some of your points remind me of my favorite book of all time. "Perks of Being a Wallflower"(book) which is about a person growing up and realizing they need to participate in life which I equate to trying to live. Where the beginning shows us the benefits of being a wallflower of doing nothing but just existing, but as the story goes on it shows us that for you to live a life that is desired you have to make your actions live in it by participating in life. Thank you for doing this essay as it is always a joy to hear a person talk about Sonny Boy it is a show that is pure beauty.
