Regarding the deer, since the corn was queastionable you definitely didn't have room to stop before the deer so trying to stop would have left it to chance on whether or not you hit the deer and would have likely put you in the corn while continuing the takeoff just removed the near guarantee of going in the corn. Obviously it's much easier to analyze on a couch with unlimited time than in the cockpit.

Great video Rich and thanks for all you did to make that fly-in/camp-out such a memorable weekend!!

You going to put in an RAF strip on your farm? Thought maybe that’s why you were showing the RAF outfitted gentleman. Your 17A video is the reason I went and camped at Trigger Gap. Keep having fun at it!
@RichWellner3 күн бұрын
Current plan is to keep the home strip private, but I do have a lot of respect for the RAF, regularly volunteer and am friends with multiple liaisons and board members.

I just found this channel. What are your thoughts on flying with propane? You mention here that you fly with a propane stove. Are you using those disposable single use propane containers (e.g. Coleman)? Or are you using something more purpose-built? Any special safety precautions with propane? My own online searches uncovered opinions of people who think those Coleman containers would be very dangerous in a crash whether as a projectile or as a source of fuel for a fire, which makes sense to me, but you have real world experience and a better perspective than the average online commenter, so I thought I would ask here.
@RichWellner4 күн бұрын
Welcome to the channel. Yeah, the subject of propane comes up from time to time on various pilot and camping forums. There is nothing aviation specific to propane handling. I use either the disposable ones (I'll be stocking up shortly, in fact, as they go on sale around here every winter when they want to get rid of inventory) for my stove and the 20lb ones for my wok. I don't view any of this as being notably more dangerous than any other cargo. One of my tents weighs close to a hundred pounds, so in terms of projectiles, there is already plenty of stuff the bang around in the case of a problem. Fire I definitely don't worry about. I have 85 gallons of gas in the wings, the addition of a few gallons of propane doesn't seem to move the risk needle much, IMO. A friend of mine was the one that had his hot air balloon supplies explode a couple years ago, which has definitely encouraged me to double check valves on the big tank and not stack anything on it that might wiggle and loosen the valve, but that's the only extra precaution I take. Thanks again for asking, I added your question to my list of questions to answer on a future video.

Awesome recap, Rich! I'm glad people got to get a glimpse into the event, from the spectacle of watching me try to put up my tent to the awesomeness you helped us enjoy with the Johnson Brothers and cooking! I'm a little jealous of Ken for getting a ride in the Maule... next year, I'll have to wear orange so I'm allowed to tag along!

Hello, Rich. It was a fun event. I hope we do more next year. I don't recall that I knew you were recording while we flew to your farm so that was a nice surprise. Will there be a Sidnaw video? I already plan to return next year. Keep up the great videos!! Ken

sidnaw is on my todo list, but I haven't dug in yet to see how the raw footage might come together.

Have you ever tried using mayonnaise instead of butter for grilled cheese! It makes it super crispy! Although mayo would be a lot more difficult to keep while traveling
@RichWellner22 күн бұрын
I haven't, but I am a fan of mayo... And, yes, a jar of mayo would need to be refrigerated after opening, but a small jar could be easy to use in a couple meals or even mayo packets...
@thebadgerpilot22 күн бұрын
@ I’m told it’s what some restaurants do. And mayo packets are a great idea!
