And here I would think. That today. Your 13 TB server. Would be NAS. Connected to a wireless router. So you don't need an ethernet cable from front to rear anymore. But this is a few years old. As I'm considering doing the same thing with my new used, 2002,, Monaco Knight. It's a 34 footer. 3 slides. No office. Damn. But? 3 out of 4 ain't bad.. And everything is in beautiful like new condition.. It was owned by a couple of retired couples. It spent its entire life in Texas. There's not a lick of rust on it really anywhere. 65,100 miles on the 300 HP Cummins ICS diesel. And No Blue DEF, needed. It's Pre-screwup. Not necessary in 2002. That's a relief.. As I'll just have to get cancer and die from the nitric oxide or whatever? As I never thought I would have a diesel pusher like this, ever. I feel very fortunate. I think it was well cared for. At least they said. It had never been flooded.. That's a relief! It didn't come from Houston! It was right up here in Central Texas, mostly. Not sure where the 65,100 miles came from? And it has 1 1/2-year-old set of new, Toyo Tires. Not Goodyear not Michelin, Toyo.. So I'll see how those do? And what the next replacements shall be? Those might be a winner? I will find out. I guess sometime in the next 20,000-30,000 miles? I hope? And No Blowouts, please. At least in the front. I have as yet to hit the road with this new used unit. It's the nicest thing I have ever purchased, for myself. And to be my home. Until my end.. Wherever that will be? Someplace beautiful I hope. That's the whole idea. Leave the planet enjoying the beauty. When that day comes. But I have a lot of sightseeing to do yet. Places to go. Places to see. Adventures to have. Because my husband of 22 years didn't live enough to enjoy his retirement. I have to do it for both of us. So he can enjoy it through me. My unit is in beautiful condition. Nothing's worn out. I'm sure there will be those things. That's part of the package deal. Of Nomadic Camping. Which in the past I have done as a minimalist. But not no more. Oh my goodness. What a beautiful unit I got. I never thought I would have anything quite like this.. I had an old 1986 Fleetwood Southwind. I thought that's all I would ever have. And it was becoming problematic. I needed a newer something older. Because I'm flat broke. This was it. I spent more than bluebook for this.. While it's never been abused and well cared for. Nobody's really have the opportunity to wear anything out. It's all, Choice. And a brand-new Mattress Memory Foam Thingy. From Walmart with a 10 year warranty. And the receipt included. That was purchased a couple months ago. Along with a mattress protector. It was a $300 mattress I believe. That's not too bad. It's very comfortable. And flatscreen LCD TVs. I'm putting some bigger ones in, anyhow. And keeping those in place. They will generally be connected to the 4 or so exterior, security cameras. And displayed on that monitor. From a Quad Splitter.. So I can view all 4 cameras simultaneously. That are also being recorded. For a little better security protection. And extra exterior lighting. So I can line up the area around me in sections. And/or the infrared at night. As light will chase people away. Dark provides cover. And packing other protections. Always having them on hand inside. There's too many crazies out there today. That are looking for the most vulnerable like me.. And almost 69-year-old disabled handicap senior citizen widow. With no family. I never had any kids. I'm all alone. Really, alone. I have to be vigilant. When electing this lifestyle. That I love. I haven't seen any UFOs yet. I'll be really bummed if I don't. Thank goodness there is Beer and THC. RemyRAD

Can I ask what version your inverter and controller are? Magnum has told me that I cannot charge LiFePO4 batteries with versions 5.8 and below for the inverter even though I have a custom setting on my version 3.4.

These antennas sure did go up in price over the past few years eh? Seems they are now anywhere from $132 - $145 depending on who ya order from. I’ve also been looking at those $400 antennas as well since I too don’t have an adjuster inside my Rv. Also since we don’t watch much tv anyways I could see spending that type of money anyway. Hi Jim, Our MS-2012 is version 3.7 firmware, so level 3......can you advise what version your unit is? The reason I ask is that some of the lithium functionality is not available until v 4 and above...... our controller is a ME-RC, I think this is part of my issue not being able to have proper settings. If you have V3.7 or lower firmware, i'll buy the ME-ARC and hopefully have better luck programming my unit. Right now, it will not maintain a set voltage.....I have to unplug the unit to reset it......frustrating. Thanks for your video. Scott
@RV4X40com8 ай бұрын
I don't remember all of the details, but I had to replace the controller in order to get all of the functionality. The limitations of using the older profiles was that it could get close to a full charge but not quite use the full capacity of the Lithium batteries.

I can't seem to find a solid answer: Will four 12V Battleborn batteries wired in series work for my Magnum 4400W inverter/charger? I've been told not to wire lithium in series & the only way is to purchase a 48V battery. Please help! Thanks
@MrJrusselltx Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that limitation applies to SOME makes of lithium batteries. Also, my understanding is that Battleborn batteries can be used in series, but you should contact them directly to confirm this is still the case. Do not rely on just what I think but contact the manufacturer to be sure. Good luck.

If you don't shut down the source of ignition (electrical) or the fuel source (propane) you will not have successful suppression. And in the case of propane it will continue to leak and potentially build up explosive concentrations of gas. FM200 is not approved as a local application agent. Also you need approvals by Nationally Recognize Testing Labs (i.e. UL, Factory Mutual, etc.) And since it is installed on a motor vehicle DOT approval is required. Of course if you don't care about obtaining proper approvals you can do whatever you want. But then you assume all liabilities.

Not sure I can answer that. I didn't use the old box at all, but just left it there since there would have been a big hole otherwise. I used the existing cables and a new control panel.

I am happy the Truma works for you. That has not been our experience, very very disappointed. It takes at least 90 seconds to begin getting warm water. Therefore only functional in a park setting with total water and gray water disposal available. The Truma came with our brand new 2020 high end RV. I contacted Truma to discuss and possible settings that could be changed. No. They say as long as there are no error codes that is all they can do. We live with fewer showers and cold water to wash hands and wait to having lots of dishes so we don't waste our supply of water.
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if this would help as a lot of this is personal preference. Two things on dry camping: 1st) We use prepared wet towels for the daily "washing" and they work fine. We only take an actual shower every 3-4 days. 2nd) Before using the hot water you can use the "pre-heat" mode which puts a liter of water in a warm/hot condition so that eliminates or at least reduces the heat up time. Our control in the bathroom has two settings: the most counter clockwise is the no pre-heat function and the next one in the clockwise direction enables the pre-heat. It does use a bit more propane in this mode but the water is both hotter and stays hotter if you care. Then you can turn that back to the most counter clockwise setting to turn that function off. We have had both regular and the Truma heaters as well as the other brand that we could never get to work right, but we all have our own ways and what works for us may not work for you.

Why replace an omni antenna with another omni antenna?
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
The original equipment was not an omni. It had to be pointed to the transmitter and that was a problematic thing, very hard to adjust. And the loss of sensitivity with a modern omni antenna was a minor factor. If you want the optimum, these low self contained antennae are probably not the best solution but I did not want to deal with installing a good directional antenna. TV is always a low priority for us.

Thank you for creating this tutorial. I have a PV system that incorporates an older Magnum inverter/charger (MS4024AE) w/out an LFP battery selection in the remote. I plan to replace my lead/acid batteries w/ LFP batteries, so I was wondering if I would be able to program the Magnum for the LFP batteries. From what you've explained in your video, I should be able to continue to use the Magnum with my system. Time will tell!
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
It will depend on just how old the system is. I had to upgrade the controller to get enough functionality for the lithium settings. Prior to Covid you could return a controller for the upgrade but that was suspended and I have no idea if they have ever rescinded that condition. I ended up buying a new controller to get the settings I needed.

There's part of this cliff that was caused by wind erosion where it goes way back in! Also you cross the same river 3 times but all in all the aspen community is off the chart! Or least it use to be. I haven't been back in 28 yrs! Anyway enjoyed your video thought I'd chime in. Safe travels.

Hi Jim, Great job on the video, very informative. In fact, the information you provided was more complete than I got from a tech I spoke with at Magnum Energy/Sensata. My wife and I have a Winnebago View, with the same inverter/charger and remote that you have. Batteries are 2 Lion UT1300 LFP. I have the ME-ARC programmed the way you and Magnum recommend, but I keep getting high battery voltage fault codes when the BMS opens. I can see the spikes on the phone app for our Victron SmartShunt -- they are 17 to 18 volts. I am concerned that the spikes will damage the MS2000 inverter (if they haven't already). A few times the ATS in the MS2000 opened up (AC pass-through was shut off) -- all 120V loads were off for maybe 15 seconds. Needless to say, that's not normal behavior. Is it common to see the red LED on the ME-ARC flash and have a fault code created every time the BMS opens up? Do people routinely rely on the BMS to terminate charging? Another question is -- while Lion says each UT1300 can accept a 100A charge, and 50A each is ideal, when I set the MS2000 charger for 100A (50A each), the BMS opens almost immediately. They are nowhere near 100% SOC, and the garage the View is in is at about 50*F. Also, I found that the charge current displayed on the ME-ARC is always higher than the current shown by the SmartShunt -- unless I lower the charge rate to 50% (~50A). At that point the readings are the same. My theory is that maybe the BMS units have a way to shunt current around the cells -- that would be current flow that the SmartShunt cannot see. Ideally the MS2000 charger would behave the same with LiFePO4 batteries as it does with lead-acid -- pretty much set it and forget it. I gather there is no way to do that -- it is essentially a manual process with LFP batteries. Is that correct? Thank you!
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
You have a lot o questions but it sounds like something isn't right. All I have used are the Battle Born batteries but that shouldn't be any different. The behavior you are seeing is not what I see, at all. First, I am not sure what you mean about the "BMS opens". With the BB batteries I never see the internal BMS open the connection but I would guess that if the BMS in the battery is opening the circuit there would be an inductive "kick" in the charger that would cause a voltage spike. The BMS should only be opening if there is either a high input voltage or a current greater than the safety setting. Neither of those should occur in normal operation but would represent some form of fault and the BMS is trying to protect the battery from either a high input voltage or an excessive load current. My BB batteries have never shown me that operation in about 4 years of using them. As to the current readings, you have to take into account the inherent accuracy of the shunt and the metering system. Shunts are usually 1% but can be different and the meters are typically 2% but can be different. So if the readings are within something like 4-5% that can just be meter error. If they are much out of that range, I would check for a wiring error. The shunt for the load current should be between the negative of the battery and the chassis connection. But recognize that there are often loads that can be powered by the charger and the net energy to the battery will be less by whatever the external loads are. So if anything is on, then that current can be supplied by the charger and never get to the batteries. So it is common for the current reading on the Magnum to be higher by several amperes or even more due to the current going into the batteries is less than the total current coming out of the Magnum. My system is pretty much set and forget. I check it when running on solar just to keep an eye on it but when plugged in I rarely look at the display. From what you are saying, something isn't right with your system but it isn't obvious from what you have described. I would say start with a wiring diagram that shows all of the battery connections and see if that shows you something. Good luck. Jim

That old unit you had was actually an Atwood system. Atwood is now Dometic. Not sure the old unit has parts available. My pressure release valve cracked the plastic around it, on its own. It cracked through natural expansion. I think that was a weak point for the unit. I never liked mine either. It didn't balance the temperature well. ARE YOU STILL HAPPY WITH THE TRUMA.? Please advise, I need to find a replacement.
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
Well, actually it was a Precision Temperature unit, not Atwood. They tried a lot to help and were basically helpful, but I thought the system was worn out and did not want to replace it with the same type, so the upgrade to the Truma system. It has exceeded our expectations and continues to work well. It was a good upgrade and definitely one I would do again if needed.

All due respect to your great video, this is not a campsite park. This is a parking lot in a treeless field. The people may be gracious but where are the amenities other than two gravel roads? There are much nicer alternatives
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
I am sure there are other alternatives. And I would just suggest that "nicer" all depends on what you are looking for. We have stayed here often on our trips back to Texas and the Austin area. This campground is clean and well maintained. We also routinely leave here and camp for weekends and longer in state parks and the occasional national park as well as other campgrounds, so it all depends on what you are looking for. In our case, the convenience and location are important considerations for a lot of what we do. In other cases, we have spent time in remote sites with no hookups of any type as well as "resort" style RV parks so it really all depends on what you are looking for. State parks in Texas often have bigger sites, with neighbors not as close and are a great resource (as well as parks in lots of other states) so it all depends on what you want and what you are looking for.

Did you ever find out why the DTE reading seemed to be off when you had a full tank of fuel?
@RV4X40com2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the iteration of their software, it can be off a little or a lot, or somewhere in between. The system really doesn't deal with the generator using fuel so that is one issue. Another is that the older software would start over again without keeping the previous MPG data so if you start with low speed and a lot of idling, you show really poor mileage. An attempt to improve that was to force the system to run for a while before it would show anything. Might have been a better idea but my system would routinely just not show a miles to empty. Sometimes it would "light up" after a bit but just as often it would never show anything, so becomes pretty worthless not matter what. To fix the system, it needs some way to figure in generator usage since that is a normal use of the fuel in the tank. Until this gets a lot more attention, it is a pretty useless "feature" on the display.
