I was born there and I have lived there till I was around my twenties. I live most my life in California. Screw those who think I don’t have a right to be there. Get a education and stop being such a closed minded idiot

I love Wyoming, my family moved to Casper from New Mexico in the 70s so I’ve spent time there off and off. But-I can’t take the wind. Strong steady wind messes with your brain chemistry IMHO if you’re a vulnerable person. When my family was there (I was a student so not there full time) we were told that Wyoming had a very high suicide rate. I think the wind figures into that. We even found a suicide down by the N Platte-but that’s another story…

I drove all around WY, this past june, from FL. LOVED the Catholic churches, the scenery and isolation, felt pretty safe as a woman traveling alone, police not too bad(i car camp intown) and quite a few free things to do (loved the hot springs in thermopolis!) I am always on the hunt for cool summers, and it looks like the only place with that is Jack$on. I liked the weather in june, still snowy on the mountain tops, bugs were hit and miss. Drivers were far more polite than MT.

Sound advice. I grew up and still live in rural Nevada. Many of the same issues were there then. I always think of Wyoming as Nevada with trees. My son lived there for a while and my son-in-law was raised there. If Nevada becomes a bigger Democrat-run craphole I will be looking seriously at a move to Wyoming.

Yeah, i think sitting on top of a supervolcano, is more moronic then smart, but whatever you have to say to help you sleep at night. The same things about Wyoming apply to Alaska except Alaska actually has valuable natural resources.

There use to be an abundance of jobs in the late seventies to the early eighties when there were plenty of jobs in the powder river basin coal mines and the oil patch industry and related industries that served the oil fields industry. Most of those jobs have gone away.

I think the people of Wyoming are generally harder and heartier than the people of other states. From our nerds to our ranchers, in apples to apples comparisons, we're a tougher group in general.

I'm considering retirement in either Wyoming or Montana from easternNC. Looking for at least 100 acres with electric and water. Not aware if I can do our dream on 1.5 million budget though after watching this.

I say the number one rule for newcomers is "Don't complain." Refusing to complain is a part of the culture of the rural mountain west no matter how cold or windy it gets. It's a feeling of accomplishment that no pipes froze and you successfully secured everything.

From my experience Wyoming is BEAUTIFUL, but your description sounds sooooo depressing. I like my snow in a snow globe. Unless im blessed with the ability to remain inside during the winter, then i wont be coming outside Unless its warm. See im a self starter like you mentioned & if i could i would start numerous businesses but that cost $$$$$$ I love the outdoors but not in 50 below weather Lol

Great video to say that the state is full of republicans and that's the reason it's so shitty with no healthcare or amenities. "Don't try to change things around here" Folks, move to Maine or New Hampshire if you want the beauty and wilderness of Wyoming but without all the shitty parts.

My little family of me, my wife, and my one year old daughter moved out to Laramie to go to grad school for three years. I can confirm this all sounds spot on. Unlike a lot of college kids, we stayed on for the whole year, only driving back to see family in Utah for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and maybe one other time. So we were in Laramie most of the year for three years. We liked it. But the cold and the wind are no joke. A “calm” day was like 30mph winds. In the winter people didn’t even shovel their sidewalks because - what’s the point? The wind is just going to blow it all back anyway. It was so cold the snow didn’t melt for weeks. It was this dry sandy stuff that just blows on the wind. You can have winter days on the road between Laramie and Cheyenne where it wasn’t even snowing and you’d still have complete whiteout conditions down on the ground because of wind born snow. Total blizzard-like conditions with blue skies above. Incidentally, that stretch of Interstate between Laramie and Cheyenne is one of the most deadly in the USA. Every year - 60 car pileup events. We started avoiding that stretch entirely between November through March and taking Highway 287 to Fort Collins instead. Oh yeah - Fort Collins… Laramie actually counts as “big city life” by Wyoming standards. It would be considered a “big town” most other places in America. There’s not a lot going on in Laramie, and it has a lot more going on than most places in Wyoming. Honestly, when people in Laramie wanted to actually do something, they’d go to either Cheyenne or Fort Collins across the Colorado border. In the winter, we would often go to Fort Collins just to escape the unrelenting cold. It’s cold in Fort Collins in winter. But it ain’t THAT cold - not compared to Laramie. Expect that major Interstate closures can happen any time from October through April due to snow. We’ve gotten trapped in Sheridan because the road south was impassable. We’ve gotten trapped in Rawlins because the “Rawlins Pass” to the east was impassible (that stretch of I-80 closes multiple times every year). And we got trapped once in Wheatland between Cheyenne and Casper. The roads are a problem. We loved Laramie. Lovely summers in my opinion. Really nice people. Made some good friends. Medicine Bow Mountains are lovely. Big Horns up by Sheridan were great… But after three years we took the hints Wyoming was giving us and moved to the Front Range of Colorado. Still pass through on the way to Utah every year though and I still get nostalgic about it. But you can be nostalgic from a safe distance.
