I like my Zombies... no you dolt, it means mechs that just won't stop. Much armor, no ammunition, most likely brawlers like that Hunchback 4P. Though things like the Cab, that 55 with two large lasers and not much else would also qualify. Another thing about the humble IS Laser is you can find them everywhere. And they're cheap. Oh no you've lost a laser, we've got one in the salvage pile. And don't get me started on med laser, you'll find that in ANY salvage pile. Heck even that one time we had to fight the clans, guess what, we STILL got a pile of med lasers in the salvage. However, good luck finding replacement for that shiny clan pulse. Or paying for it, if you find it.

The best custom Javelin I've ever seen splits the difference between the original -10N and the -10F variant, with two medium lasers in the right torso and the SRM-6 in the left. Two extra heat sinks go a long way toward making it work.

Fun fact: The UM-R80 is basically a special forces dingbat that goes 2/3/3, has only energy weapons, and mounts both ECM and BAP. It's so close to being perfect. How? By dropping one heat sink and upgrading to doubles, you have just enough weight to max out the armor at 7 tons... And just enough space to swap it for Stealth Armor. Sure, you'd have to put the SPL in the head and move the TAG from the right arm to the left, but then you have a nigh-invisible urban combatant with a 9 hex short range and the ability to call down artillery on your head before you even noticed it's there.

To expand upon the snippet about X-Pulse Lasers here, X-Pulse Lasers have the same range as their standard Inner Sphere Laser counterparts (except the Small X-Pulse, which has the ER Small range brackets), at the expense of more heat, usually about 50% more heat. If you're boating a lot of lasers, I wouldn't generally recommend X-Pulses. But if you only have a couple, they're worth it. Especially anytime you can replace one or more machine guns with Small XPLs. They're fantastic anti-infantry weapons.

As a MW 5 Merc's fan, having 4 AC2's Rapid Fires on my Mauler is just the biggest walking Flak cannon that is so fun to pilot. I know this is all Battletech based and rules and all, and I grew up to this, but never played it. MW5 Mercs is my first time getting to this world and it's fun and the sandbox helps me create a fun story arc for my Company. We deliver Pizza Supplies across the inner sphere. However there are no other forms of ultra except 5's in the game. Unless mods yadda yadda yadda (Console here).

I hate the -9S variant. There's absolutely nothing you can do with a pair of single shot SRM-2s that you couldn't accomplish with, say, a pair of RL10s. At least they're the improved versions.

One thing worthy of note about autocannons: they are fantastic in combined arms against infantry. Unlike a medium laser whose 5 damage will only kill one trooper, an AC/5 will kill five troopers, ten in open terrain. Between that and inferno ammo for SRMs, the oft-maligned Shadow Hawk is a fantastic support unit against vehicles and infantry. The difference between RACs and UACs is that you can unjam the RAC in-game, while the UAC is out of commission for the rest of the match.

Just found this on my home screen by random coinkidink, it is certainly interesting! I never really looked much into battle tech but I just like listening to the videos. So getting to know the components like this certainly adds additional perspective to it all.

Iron Wind Metals has a great model based on the new plastics. It has 3 set of weapons including the Arrow IV option.

I played in a grinder and drew the stinger as my first mech. The most damning thing I can say about it is everyone ignored me so I couldn't die in order to get a better Mech. All I did was plink away until eventually someone put me out of my misery since I kept getting into melee.

None of he variants make the Stinger better except to make it also too expensive. It's a shame since the new model looks great.

175 tons for three Mechs. Hmm I think I would have gone with a 70 ton Viper VP-7, a 50 ton Nightsky NGS-7S and a 55 ton Marshal MHL-6FR. Use the Marshal first, followed by the Viper, then the Nightsky Edit I thought about a Nova config I instead of the Nightsky but I don't have the record sheet and I'm too tired to verify if the extra heat sinks were gained by removing the jump jets or not.
