Yes ... they pick up easily and due to the consistency, wetting beforehand would not achieve the watercolor translucency I was after. ❤

Wonderful video. Thank you for showing the watercolor paper texture differences between those top professional brands. I’ve watched a lot of paper reviews and no one I can remember ever showed the texture comparisons. That makes a huge difference to me because that’s the one thing I was curious about but didn’t have the money to buy the different brands to try myself. I know what I like texture don’t have the extra money to experiment. Thank you so much For making this video. I really hope that you do come back to KZbin and create more videos.

Thank you for sharing this video. I hoped it wasn't a platform to show off expensive branded art supplies and you didn't disappoint. The information about sable brushes was very informative since I'm someone who balks at the price of Rosemary and Co. Kolinsky brushes. However seeing the performance of the da Vinci Maestro sable brush against your finger verses the Tintoretto sable brush's performance was enlightening. The Tintoretto brush you received may have been created by someone having a poor day and inadvertently by-pasted quality control; however, it's bristle quality didn't appear as if it would have been equal to the Rosemary and Co. product on its best day. While the Tintoretto brush's tip appeared choppy and its belly was frizzled after the sizing was removed, the Maestro's bristles continued to look as sleek and polished as it's regal handle. Neither seemed superior in its pristine shipping condition. Removing the sizing was key. I hoped to see synthetic sable brush compared to a similar Rosemary & Co. product. Have you located a suitable substitute for kolinsky... that would work for hobbyist? 👏🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎
@Papertude5 ай бұрын
You're right, my Tintoretto sable is one off bad brush. So far, the best widely available synthetic sable alternative's I've found that work are the Aqua Elite range from Princeton. Size 10 is one of my daily go-to's for sketchbooks.

Ms. Papertude, Thank you for all the swatching videos and the pigment information you include on the screen. For me, having important information on the screen reduces confusion since toxicity of craft products are a concern. I don't often have young children in my home, but when they visit, they're always able to locate whatever I lost months prior. Immediately after an item is found, it goes into their mouth. Both synthetic and organic watercolor pigments have ingredients which can be harmful and/or irritating. Experienced adults artist are aware that paint pigments ingredients contain oxides, ferrites and numerous "ates" that present varying degrees of toxicity. Most are aware of the health and safety preclusions required when working with highly toxic supplies containing cadmium, lead, iron oxides, cobalt, azo calcium salts, mercury, zinc, etc. Since it's close to impossible not use toxic paints, is there a way to determine the ingredients contained in each hue? Are granulating/super granulating paints more toxic than non-granulating paints due to the larger pigments used to create them? I'm not certain if these questions will make sense to a professional arts. If anyone understands what I'm trying to ask, please chime in. I'm hoping fore-knowledge will avoid a trip to emergency room as kids seem willing to try anything that isn't food.🤨🤔🤭🙄. thanks 🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎
@Papertude5 ай бұрын
I don't think super-granulating paint are any more toxic than the same pigments in a finer form. It would ultimately be down to the chemical composition of the ingredients and concentrations. Well established brands label the toxic contents clearly such as Cadmium and Cobalt. You can find health and safety data sheets on their website. Mainstream brands often offer related hues as alternatives to these. In general, the art world has been debating discontinuation of these for years, the rule of thumb seems to be dry fine powder form poses a danger from inhalation. Ready made colours are relatively less dangerous when handled correctly (humans and pets should not eat!). It's just my opinion, but I hope this helps.

Your understanding of color theory appears impeccable. Although I won't purchase this set, I thought the mix resulting from Turner's yellow and Potter's pink was extremely nice. 🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎

I have that palette size from other Schmincke releases and I've managed 32 half pans without the insert ;-) Mine has the two flat mixing wells...you are right, that ridged lid is odd. If this was the ULTIMATE mixing set, then I'm surprised they didn't put full pans in lol. I find this to be a very idiosyncratic/personal palette for one artist's style; maybe fun to play with, but not one I'd line up for.

Every time I use this palette - the sharp edge still annoys me! There are many recent releases from Schmincke with the same problem. I hope they will address this in future.

@@evolvvartstudio yes! I ended up getting the rose gold. I love it! Because gold looks too mature maybe? The rose gold is just right and it matches most of my stuff. I am glad I got rose gold coz it does look more pink in actual. The color also seems rarer than gold in the world of mechanical pencils.
@Papertude7 ай бұрын
Good choice on the rose gold! If I'd seen your mesg earlier that's certainly what I'd favor. The gold one in real life doesn't really look anything special in terms of color. I also got the white one, its got a nice pearlescent sheen.

Please, do both of these 2 versions of the Kaweco Special, have the same weight and the same balance point?
@Papertude9 ай бұрын
This red one's balance point is about 4mm higher up the barrel than the black one. FTR. the black one is 15.3g and red one is red 16.1g. I also noticed some even oxidization on the brass finished parts, so they're less shiny than they were. Still gorgeous . If you're a fan of the black one, I suggest getting this one too. Congratulations for choosing such a beautiful palette! I’ve used White Nights for years. Love them. In fact, it was the very first “pro” watercolor set that I bought for myself. Back then, I think I paid ~$45 or so for the 24 full pan palette. Almost immediately I regretted it,…regretted that I didn’t buy the 36 full pan set instead! Since then, I’ve acquired many other pro watercolor sets and tubes by other brands, too. But the white nights paints are what I consider my “emotional” paints, if that makes any sense. They are just beautiful and I love them. And yes, I actually wound up purchasing two more full 36 pan sets, because I never wanted to run out! Thanks for the video!

They're a lovely paint to use. I wish I'd had them when I was starting with watercolour! I'd have avoided a whole class of student grade material. Now, I've hit the pan on many colours in this set. I'll definitely get them again once they're readily available. Thanks for your comment! 🤗

O wow, this set is só pretty, I love the colors! I think I need this, but I'm just a beginner and already have two small Van Gogh sets, two small Studiolight sets, one small Derwent set (but I don't like that one) ánd a medium Finetec set 🤭 So maybe it's a bit too much to buy another set, which is pricey too 😉 Also love your artwork at the end and the music is just só relaxing. Subscribed immediately 😊
@dees317910 ай бұрын
Fortunately the higher end brands such as schmincke sell open stock so you never have to buy a full set. You can just supplement your existing paint. You likely have at least one phthalocyanine blue already, so don’t get one of those, but look for the things which are further from what you already have but not awkward. The perylyn green, potters pink and transparent orange are very useful and quite easy/fun to work with, for example. But the turners yellow can be harder as it is quite dominant.
@Papertude10 ай бұрын
I only just saw your lovely message now after the busy Christmas! Thanks for subscribing! Its definitely worth looking into some artist quality colours like Schmincke and Daniel Smith if you find yourself liking the medium. All colours are available individually if you want to pick and choose. For me, it was eye opening when I started using better materials - I truly started to enjoy! ❤🤗 Have Fun!
