@@Papertude Most of the white nights colours are single pigment and high durability,many transparent colours..love them.the price is amazing,pan size invites to just dig in and play without worries to mess up expensive palette with tiny mini pans,many colours are just amazing,same pigments most other artist quality watercolours..just need to study well those colours and make decisions to make best palette for you and you’re craft..I had many years ago set of 12 and it got lost in some travel,then I got set Fantasy of 24 pans in a box of 36 and got additional colours I like and wanted,and pretty much get me my favourite palette,the most used one,the one that don’t intimidates me and makes me play and best I know colours will stay for many years to come even if that’s put on wall and for practically student price tag..That especially made me love brand,that they give student wallet a professional material quality available and why I support them..I have and play with all kinds a paints,make my own too,and white nights still are always near to grab..not pretentious name,just pure colour with traditional recipe and binders as old school...In my favourite from tubes watercolour selection palette at the moment there are many from white nights,couple really favourite from Rembrant and high chroma 6 colour set from Qor.so white nights make my works biggest part anyways,like 90% and I like to save up on them most used colours to get let’s say better paper,then game is on..so for paint they satisfy most of my needs,and good paper gets really expensive..something like that in my case

Congratulations for choosing such a beautiful palette! I’ve used White Nights for years. Love them. In fact, it was the very first “pro” watercolor set that I bought for myself. Back then, I think I paid ~$45 or so for the 24 full pan palette. Almost immediately I regretted it,…regretted that I didn’t buy the 36 full pan set instead! Since then, I’ve acquired many other pro watercolor sets and tubes by other brands, too. But the white nights paints are what I consider my “emotional” paints, if that makes any sense. They are just beautiful and I love them. And yes, I actually wound up purchasing two more full 36 pan sets, because I never wanted to run out! Thanks for the video!

Thank you for swatching these! I am trying to fill the empty spots in my old 24 White Nights plastic box, especially since it was looking so empty after removing the fugitives that came with it, so this was very helpful and informative to watch! I think I might still take a chance with that PG8 Green, I saw that the tests from Kim Crick's blog showed that after 6 months in the sun the pigment did not change at all... I am tempted because it's such a gorgeous shade haha :)

The twelve that you picked at the end look almost identical to the selection in the Winsor & Newton Cotman Pocket Box palette. I had to back the video up because I thought that you’d changed brands! I too love the White Nights paints. The Cobalt Teal, Carmine, Geranium, Neon Pink (Opera), and Russian Green (that fugitive PG8) are my favorites in the range. In fact, I recommend buying the tubes of your favorites to use in other palettes because I like the tubes even better than the full pans.They also pair nicely with the Van Gogh paints and the Roman Szmal, so now my White Nights palette is a mix of these three brands.
@Papertude2 жыл бұрын
Since you mentioned it, I had a look at the the Pocket Box palette - as it has white included, its a little less versatile for me as a mixing palette. White Nights, being artist grade, is a bonus when the price ranges are similar. All things considered, I'm really impressed by White Nights. I nearly hit pan on my Green - was debating whether to go for another pan or start trying their tubes. I've not yet paired them with other brands, now I'm eager to try. Thanks for your suggestion and sharing your ideas. Happy painting!

Can you explain why you noted some colors would be for sketchbook only? Thank you for swatching these!

The colors I noted are fugitive colors (Violet P.V.3 and P.G.8 Green) due to the pigments used: they are not lightfast, so I only use them for practice and in skechbooks as they are normally closed and away from sunlight. Hope that helps!

Hiya Lianne, Thanks for another great video. The specks and the earthy smell isn't fungus is it? I hope not. The colour palette looks really good but I've heard artists complain about how the pans are filled, as it isn't unusual to come across large single air bubbles half through the pan. The result being that half of the paint is missing, so they obviously don't weigh them for consistency. They always look to me like they are made in someone's shed in the woods! The brand isn't being sold anymore by some supplier's here In England like Ken Bromley, and Jackson's are selling their current stock and then not buying any more. It's due to the current situation in The Ukraine. Thanks again Lianne, staying safe and well, David.

Comments here told me the white powder is to prevent the wrapping from sticking. As it's a little unconventional, there should be a note on the packaging. Anyhow, Roman Szmal's watercolours (Polish company) are honey based too. Since discovering them, I'm very impressed with their quality. Could be an alternative to consider. Take care.
@DariaMotorina2 жыл бұрын
That's mostly true, last few years the quality of White Nights is very questionable, and there even was a local scandal that Neva Palette sells better quality paints outside Russia and keeps worse paints for local buyers. Also there were a lot of complains about fungus in gouache paints for children. It's a pity that such a great company with long history ends so bad, but I'm glad that alternatives exist

Thank you for this. I recently bought the 36 piece set in plastic box from Amazon. There's some crossover between colors, but there's a lot of colors you had in your set that did not come in mine. I bought mine from the company's official website in the uk. The empty tin is also available on their site if you prefer to pick your own colors. The colors in the metal set are different to those in the plastic version. They are more lightfast and include newer colors which make the metal version a better choice imo. Best of luck! Update: The official UK website has been down for a while. They can be found on Jackson's Art and other major art suppliers. Alternatively, Roman Szmal's honey based paint is worth considering.
