That's a GREAT vid. Sadly, it's better to DO these things YOURSELF rather than pay someone - my father with THIS (96 Ford Courier ute) was told he needed "the injectors done" and parted with SIX FREAKING GRAND to a local mechanic (whose since disappeared, perhaps he's living in a "dilapidated farmhouse in Majorca" (where have we heard that before?)), and now has a rolling bucket of rust that is hard to start.

Hey buddy this was a real help. I had an old British vibration motor . Found the star did the wire out and success with it now being driven by a Vevor single to three phase 220 v converter. The best thing is that the British motor was real quality , beautifully built.

I use a tormek wet wheel for initial bevel, then 3.5 micron diamond compound and 1 micron compound on the paper wheels. the results are stunning.

H13 tool steel is designed to have very high hot strength. They use it for steel rolling mills and stuff like that. Used to use it all the time when I was designing hot forming/forging dies. It would probably work better in your cutting tool. (And probably other forge tools as well...) I'm pretty sure you can still get it in Adelaide

NEVER put caustic with aluminium. It will dissolve the ally. They use caustic to disolve alumina in the refining process. It will dissolve your whole pan! You are much better off using a plain carbon steel pan (stainless if you don't mind wasting a good stainless pan.) Cheers!

I had to watch it again to know myself. They are for the wet areas, in this case the laundry and 3rd bathroom you can see. The concrete is set about 50mm low and the tiler lays a screed with a fall to the floor drains, so the water runs the right way.

Sorry but your rebound test didn't show much rebound you want at least 80 percent rebound to be a actual anvil
@FirePantsFabrication Жыл бұрын
rebound only shows the hardness, of course this isnt very hard, but its harder than hot steel, and it has plenty of mass.
@dizzywright4379 Жыл бұрын
@FirePantsFabrication other than hardness a good anvil helps you work by reflecting your blows into your work not just displacing it threw your " anvil"

the white smoke is a good sign of a glow plug or compression issue. Pull the rail and check for continuity through the glow plugs, then youll know for sure.

probably better than my solution which is to get a nice mid-width log, some scrap steel plate (admittedly of unknown steel type) and drill holes in it, then bolt the steel plate down onto the log. all supplies and tooling courtesy of a close friend of mine for free. Still, for not having any tools of my own i think it's a great start even if it is not ideal, and it also fosters creativity to overcome hardship caused by the initial lack of tools. Future upgrades include either building a wood table with wheels, or putting wheels on the log itself. If i build the table i have a chemistry solution that can be painted onto wood planks. It turns them jet black and makes them remarkably fire and acid resistant. Should be tough enough to survive stray brief exposure to hot metal.

A good deal of that deflection problem could be resolved by making the ram connected sled long enough to go behind the stationary anvil. An alternative (expensive solution) would be roller bearings.
@FirePantsFabrication Жыл бұрын
the defelction isnt great from an engineering position, but it doesnt really affect the real world use. roller bearings would be a nice touch.
