Thank you for this. The exagerations you made helped me understand the why and the distortion, and the phase issue warning was also very enlightening, but I do think the final result has too much compression, especially on the snare.

What are your thoughts about subgrouping the kick and bass guitar, then setting the compression to "glue" them. That should reduce the "fight" for bandwidth at the subs?

how did you have multiple inputs in your midas as you practice this without an actual band?
@GodsOfAudio
@GodsOfAudio 6 ай бұрын
On the back side of the M32 & X32 is a USB equipped card that allows you to send multi tracks to a computer to Record the band and it also allows you to send that recording back into the console so you can mix the multi tracks. A great feature that lets a person practice & mix without having a live band on site.

Another way to solve the phase coherency issue is to use rack fx on the input channels as well. This induces the same latency on the input channel as it does on the mixbuss.

Does anyone know how to pan for stereo busses (IEMs) using the M32 app on iPad?

@HubLocationSound

@@sambrewstermusic I have since figured out that (in the M32 app on iPad) if I go into individual input pages and choose the SENDS tab, I can then put that instrument into any of the busses 1-8. But it requires you to unLINK those stereo busses, so that I can freely push the Left fader up more than the right (to cause a panning effect). I feel like this isn't the 'correct' way to do this (because I want the Stereo busses to remain linked for overall adjustment of their fader(s), but it works for now. The M32-Q app (on my iPhone) has a panning fader, but that app is designed specifically for monitor control.

@@HubLocationSound I just found out you can pan instruments in your sends on the M32-Q iphone app without unlinking or doing anything. It just shows up on the channel strip above the fader. Check it out.

Thanks for all your videos! Is it possible to route the Aux in 1/4" to 'real' channels, like 17-22? I have the rack too and would like to make those Aux ins have all the channel processing. It seems like I can do that through User In routing. When I set up the User In to use Aux ins, my channel 17 Source shows Aux1. I'm not at my rack right now, so I can't test if this actually works.

02:52 So here seeing the send volume encoder (encoder #3) light up but not the pan encoder underneath (encoder #4) is a sign that the bus we send to isn't linked in stereo (so panning doesn't come in the picture). When busses are still mono here (before we link them in stereo), encoder #3 will be the send volume to bus 3 (or 7, 11, etc) and encoder #4 will be the send volume to bus 4 (or 8, 12, etc) and

in the compressor guitar the mix is at 50%, is there a reason why it is not at 100%, is there a difference?
@GodsOfAudio
@GodsOfAudio Жыл бұрын
In this case, I knew the guitar player already compressed a lot of his patches on his pedal board & didn't want to "over compress" by setting my compressor to 100%. Alternatively, it can be a really cool sound to over compress an instrument & then back off the Mix knob to 50-75% so you'll hear some of the "dry" signal with some of the compressed signal. You may recognize the term "parallel compression" & that's what see here. Thanks for the question!!

Hi awesome video! I would like to route bus drum compression, how do you route the bus on the x32 system?
@GodsOfAudio
@GodsOfAudio Жыл бұрын
I think I answered your question in this video but I can go over it again. First, pick any free, unused Bus to be used for parallel compression purposes. If you want stereo capability, first select Bus 9 (as an example), then navigate to the "Config/Preamp" tab & press the "Link" button to link Bus 9 & 10 together. Then select the "Stereo LR" button on Bus 9 so you will be able to hear Busses 9 & 10 thru your PA. Now, while Bus 9 is still selected, press the "Sends on Faders" button & then raise the faders you want to send signal to Busses 9 & 10. For example, my drum mics are always on inputs 1-6, so I would push up faders 1-6. This will send a copy of your drum mics to Busses 9 & 10. From there, enable the Compressor for Bus 9 & start lowering the Threshold control until you're happy with the amount of compression. At this point, you can start pushing the fader up on Bus 9 to blend the heavily compressed drums with your "Dry" drum mics. I hope that explanation is helpful. Thanks for your question.

Why is there a sound difference whether using the channel parametics or a GEQ on the 1st 4 channels? And what are the channel EQs set to when running in this manner? Or are they off? That said, personally I use external EQs in a rack that I patch in to free up rack space for more effects. It's also convenient to be able to see a visual representation of the overall EQ on monitors, so we use a rack of 8 channels of external EQ.
