Thanks for making this video. I am about to replace the water pump, Idler Pulley and Belt Tensioner Pulley on my 2003 CLK500. Your video will be a good guide. I did pickup some Locktite 242 after you reminded me of it's use on the bolts. I typically use a cardboard box to draw the outline of the pump to keep track of the bolts. Your method may be somewhat easier. So, thank !

Yes, 8 on each side. I just showed one side as it’s the same procedure on the other bank.

Hi there you seem very knowledgeable in this area so im reaching out hoping to get some help. I woke up this morning, jumped in my 2004 E500 only to get the "Critical vehicle level at rear axel" error on the dash. Upon physically eyeing the rear its clear the whole rear has dropped with the right (passenger) side rear being a bit lower. After turning back on the car the error reading was gone but the rear still remained low. I actually drove right up my street and back but the error on the dash didnt return. The thing is when I turn on the car I can hear the compressor working but car still doesn't lift. I have a icarsoft reader, here is the info: 046 signal 1 of component B22/3(rear axel level sensor) 3.55v 047 signal 2 of component B22/3(rear axel level sensor) 1.45v 048 rear vehicle level -55 I know the few culprits it could be but Is it really feasible that BOTH struts died at the same time while sitting in my driveway overnight, meaning couldn't we rule out struts? Also, wouldnt the front of the car also be lowered if it were a bad compressor? (doesn't one compressor control both front and back?) The front level test was reading at -5. Thanks in advance, just trying to get a clearer picture I know you posted this 2 years ago but hopefully you'll see this post. Thanks

Hello, It sounds like what you are experiencing is pretty much exactly what my friend had on the E550 in the video. His car would randomly drop in the back while sitting and only sometimes come back up when starting the car. He wanted to replace the compressor to see what would happen with a cheap one from the junk yard. We kind of knew it wouldn’t fix it but was the easiest to replace. How the system works: you have a single compressor pumping air into a central reservoir tank that has its contents distributed by what’s called a valve block to the different struts. However I believe on that car the valve block has lines that go to another valve in the back and THEN the struts instead of straight to the struts. We basically came to the conclusion that it was either the level sensor (hard to access) or the rear valve. In my experience and what both of your issues sound like: level sensor is the first thing I’d replace. With the age of the vehicles and the nature of potentiometers, it’s probably dirt on the inside and making poor contact after all these years. Again it’s a hard job on the floor but on a lift maybe easier. Mind you, we never made another attempt to fix his issue so I don’t know for sure as the car had other problems and he was tight on time and money. Best, -MT

@@MercedesTech Damn I was afraid of it not being a "do myself" job lol. Im pretty ok with car repairs (I replaced 2 front struts and other things here and there on this car) but the rear valve block seems like a pain in the ass to get to without a lift. But that was going to be my next question, you DO believe that theres a separate valve block for the rear not just the one in the front wheel wells right? I ant seem to get a difinitive answer on google. When you google "w211 valve block" only one size comes up, no front or rear specifically. Thoughts?

@@MercedesTech So yesterday I woke up and it was normal level again, what the actual... lol. Might me an intermitent valve block or compressor problem I guess. I'll just keep my eye on it. Thanks for taking the time to talk to me.

Lets see if anyone reads this.. I have a 2009 w211 E350. R/S fender parking lamp was out.. It had the standard 194 bulb and I could see it was burnt out and the socket was corroded. Installed new socket and bulb.. When I stuck bulb in it just flashed on for a quick second and acted like it blew out... but it didnt as I pulled bulb out, flshed on and it was out.. check power and wires were at 12.2V without bulb. I then put in the 194 and the voltage on the wires dropped to 10v... I then just tried an LED ( I am a Diesel eng journeyman and have all kinds of extra bulbs and things).. when the LED plugs in.. it acts like a strobe light. I was thinking I was just gonna splice into wires from other side... but I am guessing they it would throw code.... So much easier when car light were just controlled with on/off switch.. No need to complicate something that is just on or off. If there is a $100 module, I am just gonaa black out the lenses and not worry about them since they are not required to have.. The blacked out lenses will look better on the all black car.

Love your channel! This was really helpful when we wanted to test the passenger visor bulb in our 211 wagon. Great instructions and clear shot showing how to remove the cover. Turns out it was the little switch inside of the mirror in our case. We didn't have contact cleaner so we used some MAF cleaner (essentially the same thing) to clean the switch and voila! Let there be light. For others in this predicament, you can put a screwdriver across the contacts on the visor holder to test the bulb. (as we learned later :))

This was SUPER helpful. To remove the 12 volt outlet, unscrew it from the back side. To disconnect it you will need to cut the zip tie, open it up like a clam shell, and then pull the connectors out sideways. Also, my trunk would not open until I used a screw driver, to simulate latching it.

What a pain in the ass. There is no other way to do it. I tried it myself on my w211 2007, they are exactly like yours. One thing to consider is that the warning triangle holder is removed by pushing the small plastic bracket in the middle which is pointing left and then you have to push/strafe everything left.

I have a 2000 S320 and did the same procedure as you did, all light are working perfectly, Glove box, Make Up mirrors, interior lights and Door lights as well. Just the trunk 😮 that always seems that only one LED is working when on the other side a normal lamp is installed 🙈 If I put 2 LEDs the trunk lights don’t work, they just start to blink or flash 😩

2007 model stock parking light has a greenish colour and also has an aluminium plate screwed with the light which seems like a long plastic light attached to it. Very difficult to remove without tearing off the whole headlights from the car. Maybe i wont touch them during my led conversion process

I bought from Amazon some LED Bulbs without that black box to it. Like a stick replacement. Installed on my 2000 CLK 430 no problem. Tried doing the same on my 2009 E350 sport and only the yellow fog lights work now. When I tried with headlights one worked passenger. When I did driver the headlights flickered now the only part of headlights that work is passenger side high beam. The LED Fog lights never stopped working nor blinkers. I reinstalled new stock halogen bulbs and can't get them to work. Checked fuse box on driver side door and no fuse seems to be blown. Any help?

Why there is no mentioning about the length of a new strut? From the factory, they come inflated and thus extended. So you can't put them right in without deflating with a STAR diagnostics tool! This is totally different story then. Waste of time if trying to put without the costly STAR tool!!!
@MercedesTech5 ай бұрын
This is not true. They are empty from the factory, if they were then they wouldn’t bottom out when you drop the car. They are stiffer because it is a new strut but you can’t use a scanner to release pressure out an empty strut that’s not connected to the system. They are definitely a little harder to get in than the old one out but that’s just the nature of the job.
@Igor88595 ай бұрын
@@MercedesTech they are not empty. There is a lot of references across the web where people search for the way to deflate them before installing. There is tons of mentioning about how to deflate them by connecting to the car computer and diagnostics tool to be able to fit the strut. But these appear only if you specifically search for them after loosing time and struggling. However when you search just “airstrut replacement” there is no mention of this potential problem. Which is bad. People encounter this problem over and over. So as myself. I called the strut supplier and they confirmed that that one normally would use STAR to deflate. Waste of time. Need to mention this issue from the beginning. Videos like yours, if mention this issue, would prevent me from losing tons of time. And sure, strut supplier is an asshole in the first place. But that’s why we look for hints and frankly advice on channels like yours.
