Rye does seem pretty pricey over in the UK! Products like Inchdairnie's Ryelaw or Bruichladdich's Regeneration Project were definitely on the pricier side of things. If I was in the UK I might be turning to Millstone/Zuidam, Kyro, Teerenpeli for my rye fix. Thanks for watching Pete! IN the middle of setting up a temporary studio at the new place so hoping to be filming new stuff soon. Cheers 🥃

@@whiskyonthewestcoast Finnish rye is very good and sensibly priced, 100% malted rye so quite a distinct flavour profile. Millstone is interesting, an acquired taste I think.

I would love to find a bottle. Listening to you and the cost, I was sure it was a bottling of AP or a big distiller. You said it was their own?? What? Well I need to chase this down. Like yesturday! Still, not sure I like flat Ginger Ale. Still, I want this! Thanks for sharing.

I know you love your value/budget finds Jon, so I definitely feel like this is up your alley. Until I got a bottle in my hands and saw the back label I assumed these were AP casks too as they bottles Rye they sourced form AP in the past. But distilled and bottled at Shelter Point is on the back. Wild. If you're looking for a bottle I do believe Strath Liquor Store in Victoria ships across Canada and has this one in stock. Cheers Neighbour 🥃

This sure came out of nowhere. I have no idea where to look for it as the dumb gov't stores certainly won't have it. I checked their website and there's a new Rye/Barley blend called Black Tail as well. New things happening at SP it seems.

Sure did come out nowhere! When I recorded this before our move in August Blacktail hadn't been added so it's really interesting to see that one pop up, I'll have to try it! Like @vidalberto suggested I've seen this pop up at a ton of private stores but not the B.C. Liquor stores. I'm not in Vancouver but if you are I believe The Gull and Legacy Liquor both have it. I bought it at The Gull and it was $33.80(1 left in stock as of writing this!). Hope you find it and that you enjoy it enough to make the hunt worthwhile. Cheers Vazz 🥃

@vidalberto
@vidalberto 13 күн бұрын
Very nice rye. You can definitely feel the difference between Black Tail and Regent Road, being Black Tail better. It's a perfect balance of rye and some of the barley taste you find in other Shelter Point products.

When I had recorded this it hadn't been announced or released yet, but if/when I get a chance to try Blacktail I'll let you know. I'd suggest Blacktail being bottled at 46%(plus the malt inclusion) instead of the 40% this is at will show better. @vidalberto is all over it with a review of Blacktail below. Cheers Richard 🥃

So I have wanted to try Octomore for years now. Always checking bars that I went to, to see if they had a bottle that I could get a pour of. This past week I finally found a 13.1 and ordered a pour. Sadly I got robbed because the touristy town I was in. Only after he poured it did he tell me- That'll be $100... But! price not considered I absolutley loved it and just ordered a 14.1.

Like you, I was also skeptical about this release. I've had two of the original 3 Offerman editions and liked them. I was really let down by the Balvenie Carribean Cask because it tasted quite weak and boring (imo). The rum sweetness is very tempered but pairs well with the peat and the creosote on this one. I agree it's quite an excellent release.

Great video Matt. Lowlands is tough for me to pick. I’ve tried a variety, but have only a few bottles in my collection to compare. Perhaps a nod to Kingsbarns Doocot which is available & affordable here. Ledaig Sinclair Series is my “Islands” nomination. Honourable mention to Lagg Corriecravie which has a fantastic nose. So many good Islay options. I’ve very recently done a 180 on my Laphroaig stance. This thanks to a Thompson Bros bottling and the latest 2024 Cardeas, which is terrific. Benromach for sure, regional profiles be damned. Glen Scotia Festival releases are must buys for me. Longrow Reds would likely top my list if they were more available & affordable ( which they aren’t). There are no bad choices from Campbeltown though. Cheers.

Good choices, very difficult challenge. Quintessential is very different to favourite or available for me. For me Highland quintessential would be Ardnamurchan AD, best would be Brora 43 Age of Peat. Speyside would be GlenAllachie 15, favourite Linkwood 37. Islands has to be Talisker 10, favourite is Talisker 35 (1977). Islay has to be Lagavulin 16 but my favourite is actually my favourite whisky of all time Bruichladdich A Final Act of Creation. Campbeltown quintessential is Kilkerran 12 , favourite is Springbank 25 (2022). Lowlands is probably Glenkinchie, maybe the 16. My favourite was a distillery exclusive Auchentoshan virgin oak.

Campbeltown: Springbank 10 Island: Arran Quarter Cask Lowland: Daftmill 10 (various) Speyside: Craigellachie 13 Highland: Loch Lomond 14 or really any of their Single Cask Expressions Islay: Port Charlotte 10 but I would vote Kilchoman Machir Bay CS and Laphroaig 10 year CS a really close 2nd or even tied for 1st.....and literally almost any IB of Caol Ila is probably worth every penny.

haha when you pulled out the clynelish i thougt, hmmm id pick old pulteney, as it represents everything that youd associate with highlands, although it sometimes feels too overpowering for newcomers, because its a more sour, little bitter malt. Everywhere I read it’s not chill filtered. But on my label is half in French. And does not say it’s not chill filtered anywhere. Also when I put a touch a water in I see no mist. At 48%. Any idea that there chill filtering now ??? Thank you

am a bit new with peated scotch, but when you say "medicinal", you mean it taste like iodine right? still a bit overwhelmed with peat, seems like its covering all the other flavors. I mean I can taste other notes, but the peat seems to hide/block the other flavors compared to other scotch/whiskey...So far, the only one I liked is the Nikka Yoichi since it has a very light peat that complements the other notes...
