Very important advice here at the end of this video (coming from someone with a 2021 bottle of Parliament ...). Cheers!

I enjoyed that review of the 21 you did man. These overaged Parliament bottlings are killer. Cheers buddy 🥃

Hey Matt, I’m glad you’re able to taste the 18 and the 21. That’s the kind of whisky I can only see through the glass of the locked cabinet at the liquor store. I do remember my first Glendronach 12. Man, I was so impressed! The best whisky I’d ever had at the time! I still have an unopened bottle of each of the 12 and 15 with the “Non chill filtered/ Natural Color “ marking. Not on the bottles though, only on the cartons. Maybe someday I’ll be able to compare them, side by side, with newer ones, without the “Non chill filtered “ mark. I’m pretty sure the new bottles still say “Natural Color “, as it’s the case with most sherry matured whiskies. If the ones in your area don’t, maybe it’s something related to specific markets, local regulations, etc.
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
Good catch on the Natural Colour, I do believe they remain natural colour throughout all bottlings, that was a blunder by me. Glad to hear you had a similar experience to me with those overaged 12 year old whiskies. It is sad to see the 18 and 21 priced out of reach, and they seem to get further and further away each year. Cheers eh! 🥃

Nice review and comparison. I appreciate Glendronach but find myself moving away from 100% Sherry Maturations and generally prefer more integrated offerings. Cheers 🥃

Thanks John! I think I'm finding the same as well lately. If I had a preferred profile it's likely ex-Bourbon, refill bourbon(with some years on it) and refill sherry. More complexity in those I think. Glad they replaced your broken Ledaig Rioja in the end. Cheers buddy 🥃

Great stories, fun tasting, and so cool you have one of the special bottles that came out with the older whisky in it. Cheers!

Thanks Jon! I hope you still have some special Glendronach kicking about your collection too. Can't wait to catch up on your live with Travis from PWS! Cheers Jon! 🥃

@whiskyonthewestcoast Sadly no, they are all gone but the memories. The night with Travis was fun!

Great video Matt. Was lucky enough to start my Whisky journey in 2016 and jumped into WhiskyTube right away. Because of this I was well informed and bought up bottles of 18's from 2017, 2018, 2019 the final years the magic chart shows they were older casks. The 2019 is the only one left with it's 24 year old casks. Will be opening it for my birthday some year. Agree the 18 has a incredible nose. Had a sample of the 15 from when it was still on the magic chart and was all oloroso casks and it was very reminiscent of the 18. Cheers

That 24 year old 18 year Allardice will be an incredible bottle to celebrate a birthday with. Great idea to save it for such a day. The 18 was incredibly impressive in this lineup so that 2019 bottling will be immaculate. Cheers Donner Pass 🥃

Great comparison review of the Glendronachs Matt. I have had 12 and 15. The 15 is a newer bottling and it's good. I purchased the newer 18 in 2023 as well and yet to open and try it. Like everything else GD prices have run up a lot so Parliament is well north of $400 CAD now. That's way too much money. Cheers!
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
Thanks Rohit! Good to hear you enjoyed the 12 and 15. I'm certain that 18 will be excellent. I went into a bit more in my Patreon video on a Glendronach single cask but I'm kinda done buying Glendronach at current prices. Like you just said it's just way too much money for that 21 Year. The fact that the Batch Strength is almost $200 is ridiculous. I own exactly 3 bottles of Glendronach and I don't see that increasing until prices come down a bit or I win the lottery haha. Cheers Rohit 🥃

Great comparison, Matt! I also have a 2019 version of the 21. Mine was $275 back when I bought it here in AB at the end of 2021. The price now ($475 when I last looked) is crazy. I still need to open it and try it for myself, and I expect it to be very good. Thanks for the excellent notes. Cheers!

I have an inkling our Glendronach 21 2019's may have come from the same shop out of Airdrie back in 2021. Agreed on the price now to the point where I don't even notice it being released. $200-$400 dollar price jumps make me forget that some whiskies exist, like the Bunna 25 now from Sub $400 to $800. Hope you enjoy the 21 when you open it! Cheers man! 🥃

My Allardice was bottled 11th June 2018, so it would be 23-year-old whisky (according to the famous chart), and is my favourite. I also used to like the sadly-discontinued 8-year-old Hielan', which I used to refer to as Son of Allardice or Half-Allardice. I normally like PX matured whiskies, but somehow the combination doesn't work as well for me with GlenDronach... As you mentioned Grandeur, I should say that the best GlenDronach I have tasted (so far) has been the Kingsman Edition 1991 Vintage 25-year-old - unfortunately it cost me £75 for a dram (albeit quite a generous one) in the Bon Accord in Glasgow and bottles fetch silly prices at auction.
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
You know, I never got the chance to try the Hielan', though I think there are a few bottles still kicking about in my market. Next time I see it I'll consider grabbing one. Glad you've got that 2018 Allardice, that'd be a gem of a whisky. That GlenDronach Kingsman sounds pretty divine, even with the steep price. Cheers Andrew! 🥃

Great video Matt. I have not yet made my way over to Glen Dronach but after watch am very intrigued. The whisky that got me into whisky would have to be the Ardbeg Wee Beastie. As an entry into Islay I was very impressed with the flavours and smoke from such a young whisky. Keep up the great work sir.
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
Thanks Tyler! Glendronach is definitely worth getting to know. Don't let people, including me, talk the new bottles down too much. Sometimes whisky folk glorify bottles from the "remember when time machine" and while there is some truth to it, those opinions get foisted onto others. Now the Wee Beastie packs a huge whisky into a tiny age statement and I love it! What a great gateway whisky. As an aside I did receive your email, and intend to respond, it's just taking a good amount of time to get to lol. Keep at the channel man! Cheers buddy 🥃

I have the over-aged 46% Drona 12 of old . . . I have since moved on to a slightly diff profile : GlenAllachie.
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
For the price alone it's worth it to move over to GlenAllachie, but then add just how good GlenAllachie is, and it feels like a no brainer sometimes. I think GlenAllachie 12, 15 and 10 CS over Glendronach 12, 15 and Batch Strength. Cheers buddy 🥃
@Hexagonal_Crank7 ай бұрын
Last couple of years I'd have said for the 12-18 year age range I prefer Glenallachie - better taste and price. But with the recent price spikes on their 18 and 21, I can't say that anymore =/ The "older" Glendronach 21s though? Total "chef's kiss". Best in class for sherried whiskies. Will never even consider them at current prices. If you need 21s or older these days, you pretty much need to look at independent bottlings. =)
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
Yeah, the overaged 21's are total chef's kiss magic. Really well done. My limit on the price was around $300 though, and $425 doesn't leave me tempted. I haven't been tracking the GA 21 and 18 prices closely but I think I saw that the 21 is now $600+. Yeah, no thanks. I think there are still some underrated 18 year old's at really good prices but none are a true sherry bomb. And 21's yeah Indies are definitely the market. Hope you're feeling better Hex, I'm on day 25 of this cough, hoping you didn't suffer the same fate lol. Cheers buddy 🥃

I bought 5 2022 Parliament 21 at auction for an average of $260 ish USD ea last year. Gifted 2, popped one and have 2 saved for a special occasion. I have heard people say that the old bottlings are far better though despite these bottles presuming to have up to 27 yr old juice...
@whiskyonthewestcoast5 ай бұрын
You cleaned up on those 2022 Parlkament's, wow! Yeah, I've heard differing stories about the bottles and batches. I have more experience with the 2019 and 2020 Parliament bottlings than I do the 18. That said I think the older batches of 18 were the intersection of older stock and still having a good amount of great casks. They are excellent, but I've really enjoyed the 2020 21 year old and in fact I was drinking it last night watching some hockey. Hope you're enjoying your bottle! Cheers 🥃

Great reviews. I feel like GlenDronach is a profile I have somewhat evolved away from: Sherry bombs tend to be one note for me as of today and those Glendronachs (albeit legit good) don’t have the same nuance as other bottles of the same cost. But I lean into more ex bourbon offerings.
@whiskyonthewestcoast7 ай бұрын
Yeah, more and more I would tend to agree with you. I know this because when looking at Independent bottlings I get way more excited about ex-Bourbon, refill Bourbon and Refill Sherry. Sherry Bombs, while delicious, are not the most complex. Kraken can still make it, but it'll be tough. Rooting for you guys! Cheers eh! 🥃

I only have the 18 out of the 3, which is very good but for value the cask strength beats it.

Man, I wish the Cask Strength was priced a bit more competitively here. I'll try a sample some day soon but it's encouraging to hear that it's a good one. Cheers Sandy 🥃
