I would agree for sure 🙂, around release atilla maybe had a bigger niche but with more Smite damage being prevalent that has narrowed considerably

Great question! You could pair the two of them together, but you'd have conflicting damage sources and the kits aren't perfect matches. In the short term it could work but I would recommend getting better pairs for each in the long run 🙂. I covered Shajar in this video as a buffer with Mulan, epic joan, etc. (CY is a decent option but only if you have already started him for a garrison), and then for Ashur YSG or Liang could work if you don't have Hermann Prime and Nebu or Boudica built 🙂. But the big pair for field is Hermann Prime Liang which you should definitely get first for field if you haven't already 🙂

Yeah she tends to get better the more field control you have as well, and she's definitely no slouch, even if she is arguably the weakest she's still incredibly solid 🙂. I think the main edge with Gorgo is she's pretty much 1 or 2 at every situation so her average level is higher, but Eleanor shines most in areas with easy field control and high reinforcement counts 🙂. I use Eleanor a lot as well, especially in multiple front Defenses where we need multiple defenses because she's so flexible 🙂

Great question! I would lean to a no on Wu because her scaling is so far behind SoC commanders that even with better sync there's just not enough in her kit to compete with Hera or Dido. I wouldn't be surprised if we got another healing archer garrison in the future to pair off with CY full time though 🙂

With archers, my issue is Ashur and CY are better off kept for their respective roles rather than standalone field pieces, which is what got them omitted from the list, I personally like Shajar as a support, especially if you can stack echelon buffs with her. For boudica, she's definitely not the top, Liang and Hermann take that spot by a mile, but she does provide good support in a true field fight with that debuff, although skill damage taken debuffs are less crazy with smite damage starting to push into the meta more and more, so while she's not the top 1v1 commander that was never her intent. Ashur and CY can definitely hold their own to some extent in the field as well, it's just harder as a rally or garrison player to use them outside of those roles. With the new exchanges on the horizon I could see that uptick in use though since maxing them is more of an option 🙂 For Cavalry, any new commanders are omitted until the official release of the kit into the game, so for now the video just covers what we currently have 🙂. I will probably address where he fits in his commander review once that official release is into the game 🙂

@@commodoreboris fair with the cavs, but we got the skills already so it's pretty obvious. For the archers I mean sure some people with garrison and rally archers at the same time but usually it's one or two in a kingdom. We have two for example. Maxed gear t5 iconic crit, four legendary inscriptions - you get it. Both of them run Ashur in the field, only one runs Boudicca and that's because he has three archer marches. Boudicca doesn't have AOE, her debuff isn't that great and if you don't run three archers she is just worse - less damage, low speed and always the first to die. I see your point but if you exclude cy and Ashur that means that someone would run 4 archer armies or have 4 gear sets at least. 2 open field and one rally one gar. If that's not the case then both shajar/cy and Ashur/ysg even Ashur/nebu or if you really want to Ashur/Boudicca would be the second best.

I get that, there have just been changes around release time in the past so I don't leave it to chance and to allow for more direct testing in real situations 🙂 I mean more for those who rally or garrison as their primary role, they're the most likely to build commanders like Ashur or CY and best off keeping Ashur or CY waiting for that main role as it serves the better kingdom good to do so, so having a weaker field trade is not as huge a deal because having them available to rally or defend tends to be the focus of those pairs rather than building either to specifically use in the field exclusively. Essentially the short of it for me is people who build CY for example build him to garrison first, not to field first, and it's hard to send him out to the field in a war situation where he is best suited as a defensive centerpiece, so I'd take the weaker field trades to preserve that as an option. Nebu is another option I like as well, especially since you can roll him 5551, so that's another option I definitely like especially if you want more damage instead of the debuff 🙂.

Glad you've been enjoying them! Here's a quick breakdown: 1. So you'll want to have Gorgo primary, so in that case her gear is the only one that matters. You'll want to have infantry gear, but since there's so little health a lot of players use the leadership boots and leg plates that have health and that is considered optimal with your infantry gear in the remaining slots prioritizing defense over health, so you'll want to use the non eternal empire items to replace attack with defense where you can. For accessories, I recommend ring and Horn, but you can replace them with vengeance or greatest glory to boost counterattack or normal damage to resist swarm if you'd like, but I find ring and Horn to be just generally a solid setup 🙂 2. For troop comp, you'll want 70-80% infantry, 10-15% cavs, and 10-15% archers. You want to make sure that your lead has 3 units at all times to maintain Heras expertise. For fill troops, it should be mostly infantry, but a march of archers or cavalry put in the defense won't hurt it too much, but the trade will be better the more infantry you have outside of your lead troop. Hopefully this helped a bit, the most recent long format video on the channel covered garrison gear and Formations if I missed something, or you can reply here and I can try to answer any other questions here as well 🙂

Great question! It's pretty good, not top tier but if you already have Jan and are working towards Eleanor it's a great bridge option 🙂, it's a personal favorite of mine for general defense for when reinforcement isn't perfectly one troop type 🙂

Yeah it can certainly be a toll, if you have time to be online you can always pull gatherers back after 150k resources gathered and send them back out to squeeze some extra items out but that's not a huge boost either 😅

Glad you liked it! The only formation that impacts the trade is the formation, armaments, and inscriptions of the Garrison lead so that will have to be set correctly but for fill it doesn't make a difference for Formations or gear on them. Also primary commander formation only just like gear 🙂. Yeah the meta has stagnated a bit, partially because of commanders like nevsky who have such unique kits that are hard to outdo without being broken, honestly the focus on damage types over new scaling has been excellent for keeping the power creep in the game in check 🙂.

Great question! There are a couple of reasons, but nothing strategic where there's some benefit to avoiding iconic 5, you definitely should be getting them at some point. First, since I cover many different troop types I have a lot of demand in all directions for gear so while many can just have that one troop type maxed out and ready I've got a couple of sets so I can defend multiple fronts with different garrison pairs simultaneously. Because of that not all of my gear is expertised yet even, once I get the expertise on everything I can start maxing out iconic tiers with those blueprints for the higher tiers but just isn't quite there yet between all the sets so I'm holding on to crystals until I have enough with blueprints to really start getting those iconic 5s. But overall expertising equipment is cheaper and better for trades overall in the short run between that and iconic. The other thing is just how equipment events draw resources. With working on expertises, I can't work my other items that are expertised to iconics since the events typically overlap so to expertise the sets and get the best value it's just been a process of shelving iconics on the egg and hunt for history to get the other prints I need for a better overall balance 🙂. Like I said at the start if you can get iconic 5 you totally should. Just between covering multiple fronts and the requirements that has, it's better for the average of trades on all my garrisons to get them balanced before I get them to iconic 5 🙂. I'd like to think if I had just one troop type I'd be at iconic 5 on them by now (hopefully 😅😂), but just doesn't quite fit my role in the kingdom 😂🙂

You know what, that's a terrific question! It certainly does make it more interesting. I would say that it would depend upon your damage sources on your commanders. If the meta continues to shift away from skill damage, Persian dream will continue to get better, while if it shifts back towards skill damage, twilight falls will remain the better option. As of today, if you have 2 infantry marches planned, assuming both will be Smite damage it's a toss up between the two (3% defense and the healing speed on all vs 5% skill damage on 3/5 marches). But knowing where the meta is shifting even for archers it certainly seems to indicate the more even skin is the Persian Dream especially for field and for the long run 🙂

That would make sense based on promo materials, I think thst would be most people's default anyways, commanders like Tomy/Khan/Wu that are way out of left field (although SoC has some good candidates too) would be the primary target of them anyways 🙂

Yeah totally, there are a lot of good candidates (as a garrison main Amani and artemisia come to mind among many others), I do hope it'll be an open ended choice but could totally see them keeping it pre SoC 😅, I'm pretty sure I'd have a whole top 5 list of commanders I could trade in happily 😂

For the most part yeah, just due to how many of his skills are locked behind being a city defense. He does have some viability outside of city defense but mostly as forts and passes where swarming can be mitigated to an extent and only because of Hera being as strong as he is 😅
