It's funny, Tolkien didn't have much sympathy with the Irish language, but he did like the country and (Most of) it's people. Yet so much of his poetry lends itself so well to this style of music.

What a exciting great song! I too would have stayed up, enjoying the music by the cat with the fiddle while dancing, making the dog laugh, and perhaps jump with the cow over the moon! As the sun rises I, like the many patrons of the Inn, will go to bed and fall asleep!
@DracoInduperator15 күн бұрын
Here are the lyrics to the original poem for those who are curious: There is an inn, a merry old inn beneath an old grey hill, And there they brew a beer so brown That the Man in the Moon himself came down One night to drink his fill. The ostler has a tipsy cat that plays a five-stringed fiddle; And up and down he runs his bow, Now squeaking high, now purring low, Now sawing in the middle. The landlord keeps a little dog that is mighty fond of jokes; When there's good cheer among the guests, He cocks an ear at all the jests and laughs until he chokes. They also keep a hornéd cow as proud as any queen; But music turns her head like ale, And makes her wave her tufted tail and dance upon the green. And O! the rows of silver dishes and the store of silver spoons! For Sunday there's a special pair, And these they polish up with care on Saturday afternoons. The Man in the Moon was drinking deep, and the cat began to wail; A dish and a spoon on the table danced, The cow in the garden madly pranced, and the little dog chased his tail. The Man in the Moon took another mug, and then rolled beneath his chair; And there he dozed and dreamed of ale, Till in the sky the stars were pale, and dawn was in the air. Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat; 'The white horses of the Moon, They neigh and champ their silver bits; But their master's been and drowned his wits, and the Sun'll be rising soon!' So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle, a jig that would wake the dead: He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune, While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:' 'It's after three!' he said. They rolled the Man slowly up the hill and bundled him into the Moon, While the horses galloped up in rear, And the cow came capering like a deer, and a dish ran up with a spoon. Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle; the dog began to roar, The cow and the horses stood on their heads; The guests all bounded from their beds and danced upon the floor. With a ping and a pong the fiddle-strings broke! the cow jumped over the Moon, And the little dog laughed to see such fun, And the Saturday dish went off at a run with the silver Sunday spoon. The round Moon rolled behind the hill, as the Sun raised up her head. She hardly believed her fiery eyes: For though it was day, to her surprise they all went back to bed!

@@ShireFolkPub No problem. I'm hard of hearing so I couldn't fully understand everything in this song, so I just looked up the lyrics. I love the music itself.

Fun bit of trivia: An "Ostler" is the guy who usually takes care of the horses at the inn and not the owner himself. Sometimes they could be both though, also Hostler is the US version but the original British version...which Tolkien was VERY much British, is Ostler and dates all the way back to at least 1386. My mom used to raise horses before I was born so I've done research on people who care for horses back in the old days of both Medieval times but also the Old West as that was my mom's favorite time period to read and watch stories about...my dad was more split between Old West and Medieval period.

Thanks for the trivia! At the end of the song, I put the Ostler sleeping in the hay with his cat as a nod to him being a stablehand. Glad you've got some fond memories to think on! Cheers!

Shame that this is entirely AI instead of made with actual human ingenuity -_-
@ShireFolkPub16 күн бұрын
Initial work done using AI, yes, but plenty of "human ingenuity" was used. 2 weeks of time spent photoshopping every single image, editing audio, and creating a video. I'm not just plugging things into AI and throwing out the first thing I get. I spend a lot of time trying to make a fun bit of content for free on the internet. Some people enjoy it, but not everyone has to. Thanks for the listen! :)

Never before hav i ever come across such an avid singer of hobbit songs till now. The love and emotions you put into these songs make me think im actually in the world of Tolkien. I couldn’t ask for a better and greater Christmas gift this year so I wish you a merry Christmas and a wonderful new year in all your future endeavors. My only question is will you ever post your songs on iTunes including where there’s a whip there’s a way?

A part of me is miffed this is AI...another part really does like this because it sounds great and I'd love to hear actual people do this cause a lot more of the lyrics are from the book than the Rankin Bass cartoon one which to this day is still my favorite version of The Hobbit.

I know AI isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's the best way I can make these songs for fun! I do a lot of refining to get these songs the way I want them, not just uploading the first thing that AI spits out. I'm trying to stay true to the book songs for a lot of these, so I thank you for appreciating that! Thanks for listening!

Not enough Shire. Far too much Kansas for it to be Irish aswell. This would be just fine if you labeled it "Country/Western Version"
@darkmagician252120 күн бұрын
Actually, Howard Shore used Irish music as a base for the Elves' music that he mistakenly involved for the Hobbits' music considering J.R.R.Tolkien based the Hobbits from those who live in Northern England.
