It had a two bolt 350 which could easily handle 500hp and a 8.5 inch rear end which could also handle 500hp. In a time when building 400hp was off the chart. All you had to do was soup it up if you weren't inpressed with the output

@@burtbacarach5034 it had garbage heads intake cam and carb,! But it did have a 350 with decent connecting rods and crank. And I'd imagine even the cast pistons would handle anything you could really do to it.

@@burtbacarach5034 and like I said a decent rear end a 8.5" 10 bolt. With 3.42 gears. And even a good automatic transmission a TH350 plus a nice sporty suspension. Back then a true 350hp motor was impressive

Back in the late 70's, I had the opportunity to view a MBP V8 Vega first hand. 350/370hp, 4 speed, 4.10 12 bolt, real bruiser. With the owner was his buddy and another MBP car, a Nova with a 427ciBB, 4 speed, 4.10 12 bolt ! Both cars left and when they got on it, they lifted the front end. It is a scene I can never forget. Love the good old performance days !

The Viper, last time i checked putting 2 V8 engines together gave you a V16, not a V10!

The narrator obviously has less knowledge of cars than the average American. His reading of the script is laughable clueless. I finally had to stop at his pronunciation of Duesenberg.

I had a '73 Vega I owned and when the aluminum block deteriorated, my friend talked me into putting a 350 c.i./350 turbo trans into it. This was back in 1975. Pretty stock 350 from a Corvette with headers, Mallory ignition parts, Holley 750. Probably put out about 375 h.p. I opened it up on a Detroit suburb freeway on a late monday nite and had it up to 160 m.p.h when I realized that even with front and rear spoilers, that the front end was floating, so I got out of it. It was front end heavy, so when I moved to L.A. and participated in street racing, I would have to put parking lot concrete tire stoppers in the back end so it would hook up. Can't imagine what a big block would do to the weight. Still, that was the funnest car I've ever owned! Except for the fat tires in the rear end "front runners" in the front, it looked bone stock. It was painted black with a white stripe, so we used to call it "The Skunk" 'cause it was so deceiving as to what it could do. Had it muffled pretty good, so it didn't give away the V-8 in it.

I don’t hate many cars. Most of them are blandly functional at worst. That Contour, though. I hate those things with a burning passion. Close behind is the Mercury Sable of the same era. Taurus was strangely not as bad.

The 1958 is much more popular now than the 1959. 1958 was a recession year. Also, both years a customer could buy a strippo model Chevy.

I raced one of these in the 80s. It wasnt a dealer swap car but a v8 swap vega. It had a 350 in it. My car was a built 78 mustang 2 notch back with a 4 speed. The little vega gave me one of the best races of any other car i ran but he didnt have quite enough for the 302 i was running. I love the v8 vegas and v8 pinto, and built mustang 2s. Nobody expects to see the tail lights till its over with. Love those sleepers i made so much money off the term " those mustang 2s are slow"

If you were cruising the streets from 1970 to 1985 the Corvette never came up. It was already known to be a dog of a car, overweight and under performing. The 69 351 Cleveland mustang or the 70 Challenger 440 were another story altogether.
