I had a 98 Contour, 2.0 Zetec and a 5 SPD manual. I had it for 8 years, drove it everywhere and it was faultless. Everywhere else in the world it was called Ford Mondeo.

5:46 what kind of infotainment were you expecting in the 90s? Practically nothing up through this point had any sort of touch screen, navigation was a paper map, collision avoidance was the driver paying attention, and Bluetooth hadn't even been invented.

My dad owned a contour and used it to haul all his work supplies before I inherited it and we never had issues. It was post face lift though

I had a 1995 Pontiac Firefly - Canada only twin to the Geo Metro. It was great little car for what is was designed for a cheap city runabout. Mine had the 4 cylinder engine with an automatic transmission, sure it was not a rocket, but had more than enough power for city driving. It also was great on gas and was very reliable.

4th generation dealer here, like everyone else said, you got it wrong with the contour and continental, but unlike everyone else I’ve own a lot of them, and I would usually get into a lot of fights with my family because if I’d find a car interesting I wouldn’t sell it and keep it and drive it for a while till I got bored of it, and I wish I never sold that contour, and I wasn’t planning to sell it actually, until a kid in the military, walked in, I tried to get him something better but no, he was dead set on buying the car he kept seeing me in, after a while of talking to him, he’s brother told me secretly he’s in the reserves and was being called to come in in a month or few weeks I don’t remember the specifics but I then went up to him and asked if it was true, said yes and wasn’t planning to tell anyone yet and showed me a letter or something, at that point I couldn’t say no anymore and sold it to him 😢, $2900, if you’re wondering why all this happened over a contour, it’s because it was a SVT contour, with all documents from SVT proving it can do 155MPH or they would buy it back, 😂, Now the continental was basically a 4 door cobra, and had the power and grunt of one too, DOHC 4v 4.6L V8 😂 come on dude, do your research

The Lincoln Continental and Ford Contour were both very good cars. The Continental especially is a wonderful automobile. There was no track record of it being unreliable and problematic.

Only Americans could call the Contour interior "like a can of sardines". Its international name (Mondeo) was a worldwide hit, pretty spacious and reliable. And the only bad thing about the Lumina was how much room was wasted due to the high slope windshield. The usable part of the van was roomy and well built. Finally, economy cars were just that -basic tools to go from point A to point B. The Esteem and the Metro were just that, and provided working class Americans with an affordable means of transportation. Of course they weren't as roomy as full size sedan or powerful as a muscle car. Seriously, dude, there are many bad car review videos, but yours might be the very worst.

I had a Contour not too long ago. The interior was fine and it drove great, the little Ztec engines they used will run forever as well. The only real issues with that car is the CD4E automatic transmission which is a piece of crap.

I would care more about what this AI voice was saying if he had gotten a single year correct. Both the suzukias well as the Suzuki built geo metroWere very reliable and very highly rated cars at the time. If somebody's gonna complain that there subcompactdoesn't offerpower windows I would love to know which Subcompact careven offered power windows as an option. Did the Toyota tercel? No! Did the Ford aspire? No! This channel just copied a bunch of complaints from other channels run by kids who weren't even alive back then and no very little about the subject.

What did the US Ford division do to make the Contour/Mistique that bad quality wise? In Europe, the Mondeo was a total sales hit. Car of the year '93. And decent quality/reliability.
@BillLaBrie
@BillLaBrie Ай бұрын
I suspect European expectations and use patterns are different. In the US we expect cars to feel sturdy, quiet, comfortable. It should cruise effortlessly at highway speeds for hours on end.

@BillLaBrie
@BillLaBrie Ай бұрын
@ different contexts perhaps. Back in the 80s automotive journalists in US magazines would rave about European models from US manufacturers that weren’t sold here. When they would occasionally come to the US, the reviews were a lot less enthusiastic or even negative. Hard to believe that much had changed. European cars from us manufacturers seem nice in Europe, not so nice in the US I guess.

What a whinger what picking on Suzuki and Toyota well my 1997 Toyota Hilux has no safety features a single cab chassis with an aluminium tray a carburator and no cat converter manual windows and gearbox but my Hilux has air-conditioning but it's one of the greatest vehicles l have ever bought and it feels every bump and l removed the power steering because it was leaking but it will do 100mph because the speedometer goes up to 160kph but my Hilux has the famous ultra reliable 22R engine you went on and on about features but with the combination of no tech and the 22R engine my Hilux will just go on fore ever we at least another 27 years which is better to own a vehicle with very few features that will last a long time which equals reliability and Hilux stands for High Luxury work that one out but reliability is a luxury and so is a full size spare tyre
