Thanks for your video Jonny, I really appreciate your vulnerability about this topic, something I feel doesn't get the attention it deserves. I just wanted to say I had a very similar experience on mushrooms 7 years ago. I too smoked a lot of weed, no real hard drugs, but weed was a serious problem for me, to the point I was selling it to stay high and putting my future at risk. I wanted to become a nurse, but because I was constantly high, I was barely scraping by in college. The last time I took mushrooms I realized I was an addict. I had been telling myself for years "It's just weed, its not like its meth or heroin" , but it didn't matter what my drug of choice was, weed was ruining my life and I could not quit. A few days later I worked up the courage to call my mom and tell her I needed rehab. That was 7 years ago and I have been completely sober ever since. I am now a second year medical student, at the top of my class, working to become an orthopedic surgeon. Something I would have never guessed possible 7 years ago. I too had to put my life on hold for a while to get my shit straight, but damn was it worth it.

So did you rly quit weed and mushrooms? If mushrooms gave you a Epiphany were you thinking it was something you needed to quit, or were you more worried about how much weed you were using?
@jonnythegenie3 ай бұрын
I’m still open to mushrooms once every 18 months or so. But I would never advise anyone to do the same. As far as weed, I really quit! It’s been over 3 years since I’ve smoked. Which is insane because it was something I did all day every day for many years!

Life changing content, I am definitely part of your tribe, who resonates well with what you share. You made me want to post my newer songs I keep on my phone. I used to put a lot of effort into getting better and I always got ignored. Now I am at a point where I realized that there is no turning back for me, I cannot act like I have never done music and fit in with my surrounding, because there is no place for me there, among people who do not understand me. So I am kind of forced to continue my journey with music, but what do I do if nobody gives a crap about me? I can keep posting and sending my art and people will keep on ignoring and rejecting? Because that is what always happens. I even lost my friend group because they think I am childish for wanting to sing and write songs. I feel like I am either the biggest loser in life or I might experience something that needs to be transformed into songs people need to hear in the future. I am just so scared to share the little that I have, because people might just laugh. I am scared that I am much worse than I think I am, with my skills. The worst is being isolated from people who think and feel the way I do, because like-minded people at least help each other grow, and support each other, being on your own is tough.
@jonnythegenie3 ай бұрын
WOW. I can't even tell you what that means to me. That's all I want with this channel!!!! And YES post those songs. Even if very few people hear it at first. Decide "Ok, I am officially someone who gets ideas for songs all the time, writes them basically every day, and posts them." The BEGINNING is almost always like this!! I mean look at ME-- I don't even get 100 views on these videos yet and I still found a like-minded person like YOU!! I LOVE hearing that you can't imagine turning back and feel like you MUST continue the journey. That's a GOOD sign. Not having like-minded people around is TOUGH. But when you start LIVING as the artist you are and fully EMBRACE "I am a fucking artist" and start PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE as a singer and writer, you WILL meet like-minded people. Do it in the real world and also online. Perform at open mics even if it scares the SHIT out of you, post your stuff, message people like how you're messaging me. You are NOT NOT NOT the biggest loser, you're just RARE. That can feel lonely and disheartening. The way out of it is by knowing in your heart for a FACT that your CONSISTENT expression of yourself (everywhere you go and in everything you do) will attract new people who share your energy, interests, and passions. Keep me posted.

Thank you for sharing this! I realized this as well earlier this year, however, even if you start working on making the dream come true, executing the plan is the hardest part. You need a lot of energy, and to have that, you need to have nerves made of steel. Sometimes I feel like I should be born again to reach my goals. But I`ll never give up! Thanks again for the motivating words and have a lovely day!
@jonnythegenie3 ай бұрын
that is a great point! this book called "The Art Of Impossible" by Steven Kotler calls what you're talking about "grit" (HIGHLY recommend the book), which is def an element I didn't mention but I will work on how to discuss it. I'm very happy to hear that you won't give up. Giving up is so much more troubling of a feeling than having difficulty with trying. Stay on the hunt for content and books and cues from life that move you toward understanding your dream better and better and the nerves of steel will start to show up more frequently. Really appreciate you and you were born correctly.

To me it means that when making your art, the mentality of a content creator is best left out of the room. Things like tight deadlines for final product, outcome-based thinking vs. process-based thinking, and especially the consideration of the audience. When it comes time to release the art into the world, I see that as a better time to put the content creator hat back on.

Depression is mostly a choice, and usually the end result of continuously regurgitating negative thoughts. The constant worry of past and future (neither currently exist) is a bad habit developed over a lifetime and a certain recipe for disaster, but like all habits, it can be broken by staying present, making conscious choices, controlling the mind and learning how to fend off those old thought processes when they attempt to resurface. Stay focused in reality, not the mindless, emotional drivel the brain makes up. Nervous about age because of an Instagram video? See how ridiculous that sounds? Stop it! Creatives have a lot going on, so go hard. But also take time to recharge, because that is necessary too. Balance is the key to a good mix and a good life my friend...
@jonnythegenie5 ай бұрын
First off thanks for such a thoughtful comment. And yeah the past/future stuff and resistance to the now is HUGE. For me, there's a very clear difference between the "choice" version of depression (which I absolutely sometimes allow myself to slip into) and actual "clinical" depression, ever since I was a little kid. Present moment focus helps because it makes it apparent whether I'm in the "choice" version or the chemical version. If I witness that I'm experiencing the choice version, I change it. But if I witness that it's the chemical version, there's really not anything I can do but carry on, wait it out, and sort of just watch it do its thing. I've come to understand that it's just a part of my neurological makeup. Really appreciate this comment, thank you x10000!!!
