My grandfather was a railroad man during the Great Depression. We used to pick him up here in the 60s after his retirement🌹

Nice video! I am from Sweden 🇸🇪. I’m from the Swedish landscape called Östergötland. The lights at this crossing are from back in the day.
@UnionPacificRailroader7 ай бұрын
Thank you! That's very cool! I enjoy sweden a lot and have been a few times! Lovely place, also this street has a pretty rare crossing? Thats cool! I don't know my Swedish Crossings and trains as much, but would like to learn about it! This video was taken in Småland, near Kronoberg!
@TrainsstuffwithMarkusAndersson7 ай бұрын
The while light on the signals who have one means that the crossing may be passed but that trains can still come even though it isn’t flashing red. If that happens, it may be due to an unintentionally late activation of the crossing signals or that it is malfunctioning in some way. But we all probably know what red means. It means stop of course.
@TrainsstuffwithMarkusAndersson7 ай бұрын
There are also some pretty funny words in swedish like "fart" which means "speed".
@TrainsstuffwithMarkusAndersson7 ай бұрын
I’ve seen a railroad crossing around Hultsfred in Småland which has What’s called "System Alex". Those signals look a little bit more odd than the normal ones, but crossings of that kind do use an E-bell😊
@TrainsstuffwithMarkusAndersson7 ай бұрын
If you’d hear me talk irl, i would probably sound pretty American but not completely 100% as i mix my pronounce in english with a little bit of swedish. In the past, when i would say the word "this", i pronounced it like the Word "diss"

Dang, didn’t know ONE or Ocean Network express existed in 2005 😂
@UnionPacificRailroader9 ай бұрын
Yeah, it totally existed! lol yeah I just recorded these with an old camera, 11 days off my upload schedule, but I guess it still works? Glad you caught on! Gevos were barely a thing back then anyway!
@BNSFRailProductions9 ай бұрын
@@UnionPacificRailroader yeah, it looked pretty believable actually, but the ONE containers and the pretty faded es44s gave it away considering the es44 was less than a year old in 2005
@UnionPacificRailroader9 ай бұрын
@@BNSFRailProductions lol I just used a 25 year old camera, that was one thing I was pretty on the fence about. The old UP GEVO paint and the new horsehead paint on the NS AC44C6Ms at the start too, I tried to make it look like a dash 9 😂 But yeah, I tried to give it a reasonable date, early GEVOs with AC6000s and SD70Ms in the mix (those clips are not new), not to mention the amount of GEVOs, there WAS ONE new GEVO on a train 30:17 it was UP 2631 (ET44AH) so it ruined that clip, I still added it in anyway. Thanks though, I did try! Wasn't much I could do about the ONE containers though, I noticed it myself... ._. 😅 But I do have a couple of train clips in this video that ARE pretty old, oldest being 2012, but I do have a few trains from the early 2000s on there for real lol. Cheers!

I also looked really hard for a crossing with a mechanical bell... that frustrated me that I could only get modern crossing gates with the UP mainline action!! I've always preferred the older crossings over these new ones, there were mechanical bells all over these 2 lines until like 3 years ago, they all got replaced... So yeah, made my videos look more fake haha

844 was in NLR a day early some years back , parked in it's track by the old welding plant . No one around and I got a picture of my granddaughter standing in front of the headlight . Awesome picture . Two days later I got a Blue Screen on my computer and I lost almost 2000 pictures , broke my heart . Lost her picture . Bummer .

The old GEs reminded me of a 441 BSA motorcycle . Me and my wife rode the Eagle to San Antonio and stayed several days at the Holiday Inn on the River Walk . 18 hour trip to San Antonio and 16 hour trip back to Little Rock . Cool trip but my wife hated it .
@UnionPacificRailroader10 ай бұрын
Lol! I know how it is, must've been one heck of a ride! And yes the old GE's are absolutely INCREDIBLE. I love those Genesis locomotives so much! I hate to see Amtrak trying to replace them with these new "things", funny how half of them don't even operate well, especially in the weather in the midwest! Genesis locomotives can do it all, I feel that Amtrak should at least overhaul them, but I am not Amtrak, and time will take it's course eventually sadly, catch them while you can! Those things looked very nice coming out of the shop originally, phase 3 suited them best, not this new phase 7! Nice motorcycle by the way!

Jenks shop was built in the 70s or at least started and then stalled for a pretty good while as UP talked about not completing it . Awesome shop , HUGE and very Cool .

Yeah, I found it funny how that was, it is absolutely huge! Storing all of those locomotives, and the yard, it is indescribably huge! It's really cool!

When the Rock Island shut down the business's on the old rail line couldn't get service four business owners bought the rights and created the Little Rock and Western . It was a pretty big deal and people thought they wouldn't succeed but they are a very good railroad and the companies continued .
