Hi Marshall. Is there a reason you don't lubricate the jewels on the palate fork?
@user-ed6ff3bb4i39 минут бұрын
Fascinating. Very enjoyable. Only one ask: could you say something about the case? There were some useful-looking marks on the inside which I'm sure would have imparted some interesting information.

The glorious fictional Napoleonic War British ship's surgeon, Doctor Stephen Maturin, a proud owner of an early pocket watch, often had "unfortunate lubberly encounters with salt water", and his caretaking shipmates would fetch him out, dry him out, and dunk his watch into sweet oil to save its works..... Too many people think this early primitive procedure is still a good idea....

How hard was it to order that new balance staff? Incredibly entertaining and educational video. Well done! Funny mixture of right tool for job and working with what you got.

Blimey, 11/58 . . . . the actual month and year I was born. So satisfying watching something the exact same age as me being fully restored. Unfortunately restoring me would prove much harder!

Interesting stat, 20,000 days worn, so that works out at a dollar a day. Bargain. What time did it keep after this work?

I had sent you a message that I had a lord Elgin watch I received from my grandfather, that no longer worked with a self winding watch, and wanted to know if you might be able to take a look at it for me

I have been practicing on cheap China nh35 movements. Ruined 4 out of 5, lol. Seems like I am miles from taking the plunge on a vintage Swiss watch from eBay.

This is such a pleasure to watch! Thank you for making this. I have ordered some parts and put some watches together to start somewhere, but I’d really love to work with the movements like this. Great video

Not a watch fan but your videos randomly popped up in my suggested feed as a result of me watching restoration videos. And your vids are that but focused on watches and even tho I will never try fixing them, it’s interesting to see the mechanisms come apart and be fixed. The mechanical end of my brain is satiated watching the inner workings I don’t have the tools to tinker with.

I service CNC computer numeric controlled machinery holding tolerances to fractions of a micron, & this guys finger dexterity is like other world, even if you learned every mechanical assembly in these watches you would not have his finger dexterity, this guy is what you think a world-vlas neurosurgeon would be like, most people doing fine work have some tiny muscle twitches every now & then, this guys steady nerves & near total perceptible lack of muscle twitch is insane, if he had gone into a surgery specialty he would probably have 100 surgeons in the world who could keep up day after day.

I was stationed at Yokota AB Japan and bought my Glycine Airman at the base exchange in 1977 for $200.00, quite the chunk of change for an Airman 1st Class. I still have the watch and still wear it occasionally.

I think the owner wore the watch untill it stopped, then put it in the drawer untill they had the money to repair it but never got there.

I had a loser like that as a next door neighbor. I poured hydraulic cement down his drain pipe. After that I put cans into his drain pipe. These two things cost him $5,000 in repairs. In less than two months this loser and his loser wife sold their house and moved to another part of the state! 😂

I have a Cartier Pasha skeleton. Are you interested in restoring it. It is in rough condition
@michaelwalker1017Күн бұрын
As far as what is comsidered top and bottom while you're doing a repair, at our computer repair shop we have solved that by referring to things as repair right or client right. In laptop repair you flip the laptop upside down to fix it and so client right is repair left and vice versa

Elgin watches used whale oil for lubricant. Our neighbor used to work for the watch factory and gave us a small bottle of it from the factory along with watch maker tools.

After watching this i can fully appreciate the intensity of craftsmanship of mechanical watches like this Rolex, the individual pieces that make up this watch is astounding. To see you disassemble and reassemble this amazing time piece, only makes me wonder how all the parts are made in the first place. Excellent video thank you.

bad show Rolex, it was obvious they hadn't even done a cursory exploration of the watch before refusing to help the owner.

I know its not original but if I were having this watch restored with the intent of wearing it afterwards I’d have a very thing layer of epoxy painted over that Bakelite to keep it protected from damage.
