I don't get why there needs to be two redundant chains of bones. It looks like they both do exactly the same thing.

Can you show how to get the mouth geo working with the rig. Also are you able to rotate the lip up down left right so on? just wondering if its limited to translate only? Thanks

not yet, currently you have to bake bone animations before exporting them.

@@interactiveslums213 Can you explain which part of the rig makes it so that it's not game-ready? I'm familiar with things in Maya but not in Blender and I would appreciate this information!

Hey there, I subscribed to your patreon to use the mouth rig for an animation I have to do, but I haven't been able to parent my mouth model to your rig. Any chance you could make a tutorial on how to parent a mouth model to this rig in particular? Thanks in advance.

Hi,I tried it on my own project, but i have a problem, what you did was that you made 2 first curves which are hooked to CTRL IKs. But in first part you added for that smaller CTRL bones relatede handles on the curves as well, to get hooked to. In Part two you created a DEF Curve and you hooked the handles of the new curve to the same smaller CTRL as in part 1. Which also means, you didnt dissolved the handles on the 2 first IK curves. I did the same as you demonstrated, but the problem is when i move the whole armature of my model by the CTRL Root bone the curves dont follow properly and they get deformed, its very annoying and not usable. I dont know if the free handles on the IK curves are the reason, i tried then to desolve the handles on the IK curves, the curves but loose their shape. and i stuck. I hope you could help me and give me some advise. Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue, I tried many and I say MANY ways of making the rotation work properly but couldn't figure it out, when I rotate the jaw control, for example, the middle bones stay still and don't rotate properly because nurbs handles don't twist the curve(The IK ctrls don't twist the IK curve and the smaller ctrls don't twist the DEF curve. That is my only problem with it because I managed to fix the scaling...

Any chance the project files on patreon could be updated to include the bottom lips too? I've been at this tutorial for hours and only have an eldritch horror of bones to show for it ._. If i duplicate the top lip in the project files to make a bottom lip it works as two separate rigs, but if i join them together with Ctrl J they break :x Sorry if im dumb

Thanks for good tutorials on rigging a mouth/lips! I was able to add part 1's rigging to my character's upper lip (only the other half of it since I'm having a Mirror modifier on the character's head). Added a second Def curve & bones for the lower lip to the same armature (have only one common ik curve). Will next add the hooks for the lower Def curve & bones. Let's see how it pans out.

Definitely going to the tutorial next! I literally took a 8 month hiatus from blender on accident simply because i made a new character rig i was proud of and the very last step i needed to do was set up shape keys for a face rig and I just didn't have it in me to go through that again. It was too painful lol. I'm really excited to try and mix this method with another one i saw where you make a boolean to punch a hole in the face as a mouth. The problem with this was I was still going to have to set up a ton of bones or shapekeys, so I just put blender down and didn't pick it back up for so long. This could save me, Thanks so much for sharing!

a cool tip, instead of removing the parent of each and every bone one by one, you can shift select them and hold down alt key when removing the parent, holding alt makes it so that both active and selected objects get affected, this is pretty handy if you have a lot of bones. cheers
