Love your in depth videos, can I ask you where you got you lugnut set? They are lockable correct? How have they held up to weather etc... I can't seem to make my mind up.once again thank you for your content, we have identical 2017s
@StraightSRT8Күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment and glad to know we have identical SRTs. As for the lug nuts they are locking and they're black spline lug nuts. I forget the exact brand as I bought them a long time ago but they've held up extremely well. I use an impact on the regularly. The keyed ones were always a problem for me even when not using a impact. Spline is the way to go.

Great video man. Thinking about getting rid of my f80 and getting the srt for a daily driver. You’ve basically sold me to one at this point. Also 17mpg and the maintenance cost really isn’t so bad. Brakes and tires seem to be the most expensive part of the process which I could deal with. Hoping this would do me well during the winters here in Chicago.

Definition of octane is wrong. Octane is the resistance to knock which means the higher the octane the hotter spark required to ignite. Basically the reason an engine pings or knocks is because the fuel is pre-igniting or self igniting (this would happen if the cylinder had some sort of carbon build up acting as a spark vs the spark plug) this is why diesels knock. A high octane fuel is then recommended if you have a performance engine with high compression, the manufacturer requires it, or if the engine is just old and it is suffers from pre ignition. Unfortunately octane has nothing to do with power.

My Cayenne is 93 octane, but it's hard to find. Is it horrible if I use 91 octane??
@StraightSRT826 күн бұрын
I definitely recommend that you don't use 91. You could use 91 plus an octane booster.
@trl198026 күн бұрын
@@StraightSRT8 Ok. What octane booster do you recommend?
@StraightSRT826 күн бұрын
They're essentially all the same. The best option is to use the ones that have racing fuel in them. This will ensure that they don't clog your injectors or foul your spark plugs but those are the most expensive. The racing fuel one in my video is good.

@StraightSRT8Ай бұрын
The oil weight definitely matters but it's also determined based on ambient temperature. If you're operating the car in average temperatures then I definitely advise you to switch. The first number is the weight of the oil in cold temperatures. Your 5w oil is heavier and will move slower (all bad things) in the cold in comparison to a zero weight oil.

Thanks for the video. I have a '12 Overland with the same issue, just with "real wood" trim instead of carbon fiber. Just found the part number has been discontinued, so I'm thinking of doing a vinyl wrap on the existing trim piece. The wood cracked before it separated from the piece that clips into the dash, and since a replacement is going to do the same thing anyway, even if I can actually find one now... vinyl seems to be the way to go. Didn't know how to get that screw out until this video though. Nice explanation too. Thanks again!

I'm sorry but using the term "NOS" tells me you watched Fast and furious to many times. NOS stands for the brand "Nitrous Oxide Systems". Not nitrous in general. I guess I'm being a dick about it, but I just can't stand it. More movie seat time than wrench time. And more octane does not mean more power. It is to prevent pre-detonation of low octane fuel in a high compression engine. An 8 to 1 engine will not make more power with 93. A 14.5 to 1 engine will run more efficiently because the fuel will not pre detonate in the cylinder. Now with nitrous it adds oxygen to the mix and you also add more fuel to the mix for a bigger explosion in the cylinder and that makes more power. So, dumping some 116 in your lawn mower will not turn it into a drag machine.

If my car knocks with 87 octane and is only happy with 91, does that mean I would benefit from octane booster? Does that mean I can go back to putting 87 and just adding booster? 91 is so expensive here in Cali :/
@StraightSRT83 ай бұрын
Is your car a SRT? SRTs aren't supposed to run on 87. If your car isn't a SRT and is meant to run on 87 then you have a detonation issue. Could be a variety of things, usually octane booster is a temporary fix to a permanent issue in that case. However to answer your question yes you can forever run on 87+octane booster.
@PeaceNinja0073 ай бұрын
@@StraightSRT8 Absolutely not lol I have the slowest stockiest car ever lol Little 1.7 liter 03 Civic LX. But I do notice that my car benefits in terms of smoother idle and better MPG when I use 91 octane fuel vs 87… by a long shot too. Especially when I use Costco 91 fuel. I also feel a bit more power on the uphills. I’ve been told my car doesn’t need 91 but my car tells me different lol
@StraightSRT83 ай бұрын
If your car runs that much better, then stick with what works. Also knocking/detonation is bad for an engine. In this case I'd stick with the octane booster or have a local mechanic check the issue if you plan to keep this car for a while.

Apologies if this is a dumb question , is there a way to find out what there maximum tolerated fuel octane is for a particular engine? Because when the octane rating is too high, that too can lead to partial combustion and engine problems right?
@StraightSRT83 ай бұрын
Don't be ashamed to ask a question, the whole point of this channel is to help answer questions. To answer your question, no there isn't really a octane that is too high however there definitely is one that is too low. Refer to your vehicles manual for specifics or if you have a custom tune then ask the tuner. Most cars run 87. Higher performance cars run 93. Insane performance cars run ethanol typically.

I do not understand,why nobody sticks to the recommandations of the gearbox OEM? It is ZF and ZF manufactures its own oil,which is Lifeguard 8 and in the pan you get the complete procedure for changing the oil. ZF recommends the first exchange between 80 and120.000 km,which I did already. Next change is between 50 and 60.000 km,as you drain only 4,5 liters out of 8,3 liters.

First off, youre an extremely irresponsible person doing this video while driving. Also for being an electrical engineer you should know that the solenoid in the fuse box is called a relay. For people trying to diag this. Once you determine the battery isnt weak or loose terminals and causing the issue. Pull the starter relay in the fuse box. On the relay it shows the pin numbers and location. Jump pin 87 in the fuse box to the positive jumper post with a 40amp fused jumper cable. This bypasses all the computer controls. That pin goes to the terminal on the starter for the solenoid, thru 2 connectors (tipm and a body connector). If it does turn the engine over you have an issue on the control side/bcm. If you hear the solenoid click but no crank - high possibility the motor brushes are worn out, armature has an open, solenoid tips are arced out causing high resistance or battery cables to the starter motor high resistance or connection issue. No click sound heard - your solenoid coil on the starter is open or issue in the wiring from the fuse box to the solenoid.

FYI anyone thinking about the gorilla glue route ... SIKE.. won't work. Mine lasted all of 3 weeks. You got to think how hot it actually gets in your car when your not in it, windows up and the sun hovering under your sunroof. Besides that when it would active the glue back to a liquid the smell 🤢oh and btw those fumes can be toxic carcinogens just like the good smells you douce your car in . That new car smell is in a cancer fragrance south of frace I believe but yes it's a combo of fresh glue in the air amongst other fresh chemicals. Another reason to not buy brand new . I'm in the process right now of taking that under layer that's underneath the carbon fiber and I am reupholstering it and I'm going to redo my entire interior now It's cheap it's easy It won't look cheap it'll look good I have real alcantara and other leather fabrics that I'm going to go black and red It's going to look dope looks way better than the carbon and it won't peel. I suggest doing something like that that way you know you're not going to have to do this again

I am on my third Odyssey battery in less than three years. Thankfully, Auto Zone warrantied the first two. The clerk said that I wasn't the first odyssey battery to come in and be replaced this week. So, I don't know if it is a batch or what, but over a period of three years with two failures, I've lost confidence in the brand. Especially, considering the battery was right around 500 dollars after tax. I'll run this third odyssey battery till it fails, and I won't be purchasing from the brand again. I have had a Die-Hard Platinum AGM in the truck since 2018. It has never even blinked in six years. It has been rock solid. I do not mind paying for a quality product. But, for that premium price, it had better perform as expected.
