Question for ya, I’m hearing Blaineroe first 7 holes are up hill but didn’t look that bad on the video . Is it incredibly hilly or just little bit on incline?
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper5 сағат бұрын
Very surprised to hear that. I wouldn’t consider this a hilly course at all, same goes for the first 7 holes. The only one of those holes I’d consider truly uphill is 6, even then it’s grand. 7 is most definitely downhill. 1 and 2 seemed pretty flat to me. 3 is downhill towards the green. Similar with 4. 5 is slightly uphill and also has a kind of side sloping fairway. Anyway, I’ve only played it twice so maybe you’re hearing from a more reliable source but from memory it’s most definitely not uphill for 7 holes 👍🏻
@Money2ByrnePodcast50 минут бұрын
@ that’s great to hear, was thinking video it seems fairly flat for the most part. Then few people saying if you don’t mind playing first 7 up a hill then play there. But glad I watched your video. Course looks incredible.

Great wee video my friend I’m a plus 1 handicap. Try to slow your swing down get into shape ie the correct posture your using you pw get yourself a 52o or 56o 60o for round about the greens and to be fair there’s nothing wrong with your putting but you move way to much when hitting the ball your feet’s everywhere lol anyway keep practicing that’s what gets you h/cap down 👍

Arklow is nice looking course, again one you would not see too much of. What other facilities do they have down there? Idea for a video, your pound for pound top 5 courses you have played based around bang for buck. Not necessarily best course but best value for what you get.
@DiaryofaHighHandicapperКүн бұрын
Yeah it’s absolutely lovely, particularly on a summers day 😎 They’ve a fine big clubhouse, up on a hill overlooking the course and coast. Views are incredible. Lovely outdoor seating area too. In terms of practice facilities there’s a couple of nets, a putting green and then a fairly basic short game area. Value for money in terms of membership is u real too. Less than a grand! And thanks for the content tip 👍🏻

Great video. Found your channel looking for some information on Roundwood golf club. I’m living only a stones throw from the place and like yourself had never heard of it. Looks a tough course but I reckon after playing it a few times and knowing your way around you could shoot a pretty decent score on it. Will defo be going it a try now having seen this. And the value is unreal, 28 Euro and never busy. I drove into car park a few weeks back and place was deserted. Only shame is that club house seems to be closed, would be nice to be able to get a coffee or that before to after a round. Played golf as a young child but Only getting back into golf now again after about 25 years away. Keep up the Great work on the reviews. Going to watch your Arklow one now.
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper3 күн бұрын
Cheers mate, thanks for the kind words about the channel and congrats on getting back into golf 🏌🏻♂️ Yeah I really do have a soft spot for Roundwood. I’ve played it loads since I filmed this, including another filmed episode on my channel 👍🏻 With a small bit of investment it could be absolutely superb. I just can’t believe how few people seem to play the course. Now, the greens wouldn’t be of the same standard of other golf courses but honestly for the price they charge, it’s great value. And as mentioned in the video, some of the best views I’ve seen on a golf course. Clubhouse is a real shame. Fine big building but just looks like it was never completed. Most of it lies vacant. Although it does be open and I believe you can actually get some refreshments, not that I have ever done, but I’ve seen people in there sat down drinking a cuppa. Anyway, thanks for checking out the channel and I hope you enjoy the Arklow video 👍🏻

@DiaryofaHighHandicapper5 күн бұрын
Hi Michael, I do of course own an umbrella however the investment is only useful if you remember to bring it 😂 This was a couple of years ago now but from memory I played this round in peak summer and headed straight to the course from the office so my preparation was light and I didn’t really envisage such a downpour in the height of summer, even for Ireland

🎉Great "real" video 😊 and I love your enthusiasm for the game, keep it going. So 2 things and you'll be below 90 in no time. 1. Putting: you can't be 3 and 4 putting, especially on your home course. Learn how to read putts and work on your distance control. Your goal (for now) is only 2 x 3 putts per round ; all others should be 2 putts. 2. You're getting to your left side on the down swing, however you're finishing on your right leg thus moving away from the ball as you hit it, hence the shots going off to the right. That's 6 to 8 shots saved just on this round. Watch your video and see how you fall off almost every shot, look at good players, they don't.
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper5 күн бұрын
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed the video. I must admit my putting was very poor in this video. Normally I would consider it one of my strengths (of which there aren’t many 😂) but to be honest, I do find putting particularly difficult at Arklow, even though it’s my home course. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with links courses, but the greens are fiendishly difficult. We’ll keep working at it though 🏒 And yeah, I have a horrible tendency to swing from my back foot. I get the club stuck on the inside and it’s very hard to get your weight forward when the clubs behind you. I did have a lesson recently and we worked on the takeaway and weight distribution so hopefully it pays off. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

I love the content so far. I am curious what tee box you are playing from and the total yardage for the course from that box. If I were you, over 20 hcp shouldn't really be playing longer than 6000-6400 yards. My local course has 4 tee boxes and from the 3rd back (blue) it is about 6400 yards. The whites are the second back and are about 5900 yards. Pretty easy course. I don't have an official hcp, but i keep track of all my rounds on my gps app. It shows me as 11.2, but I don't feel much better than you watching your channel. I think the biggest thing is just avoiding anything past double. I don't remember the last time I had a snowman on my card.

All you ever see is content from scratch golfers etc. Would rather see videos from high handicappers like yourself. One thing I hate is watching videos of game improvement clubs being reviewed by people they are not made for. Someone like a 28 handicapper trying out 4/5 game improvement iron sets to really see some numbers that would be close to the target market...

lovely course great video,your swing needs abit work first watch back your video see how your practice swings you keep you balanced(but when you play your shot you try to hard to hit the ball often lifting your head to see were you have hit it ),one thing all swings need is balance practice moving side to side shifting your weigh from your front leg to your back leg and then back to your front leg.what your doing is leaving all your weight on your back leg causing you to spin around. lastly before you play use two clubs together and swing them for ten minutes will help you to slow your swing down and use a black line on your ball to line up your puts
@jamespitchforth992825 күн бұрын
oh and stop lifting your front foot your changing the direction you hit it

Thanks James, I appreciate the feedback. I especially like the idea of using two clubs together to slow things down. Although I’m not a fan of the line on the ball for putts. It's one of my favorite courses, but it's so underrated. Your long game is way too good to be playing off 28. You need to work on your chipping, weight of putting, and, most importantly, club selection around the green. With a better short game, you would be playing off 18.
@DiaryofaHighHandicapper26 күн бұрын
Yeah very underrated although I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about it who’s actually played the course. People absolutely rave about it. And cheers. To be honest, this was one of my better long game performances. It also helped that the course was quite open when I did miss big. However, I’ve found that my biggest hinderance to lowering my handicap is that my long game can be very inconsistent. My worst rounds this year have all been because I really struggled off the tee 👍🏻
