Do you happen to know if the 60th carried colours on campaign in America/Canada ?

I love to see my Regimental history anywhere! I served in the 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets for 17years, following my father as Rifleman in the Kings Royal Rifles and Green Jacket Brigade, and my grandfather who was a KRRC Rifleman from 1931 to 1943 (discharged due to wounds). I am passionate about my Regiment, still refer to myself as a Rifleman even though I am now 65! C et A

@ 9:44 For those curious: an officer from the 60th actually weighed the equipment of one of his soldiers back in the early 1760's--when they basically wore this type of uniform. The whole load out--what you see here plus a couple of stuff specific to marching, came out to ~64 pounds (so about 29 kg). The entire "battle order" came out to ~37 pounds (~17 kg), if memory serves.

My ancestors were a members of the 60th during the American Revolution. The 3rd and 4th Battalions were disbanded and 76 members of those battalions and their families were granted land in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia in 1784. Thank you for the history, though most of it is after my ancestors time!

I’m curious about the braces? I didn’t think they existed at the time as the tightness of the fit of the breeches hold it up?

They certainly existed in the period although they were rare as you suggest. In this case I’m afraid they might be a slight anachronisms necessitated by my comrades weight loss.

Hi, it’s a hat blank I bought and moulded around a conveniently sized bowl and then fitted with a band and liner. It’s petty simple to do and the end product looks pretty ok.

Did you make the waistcoats and Regimental coats? What is a good source for patterns or a business that makes such things?

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. The kit is mostly home made, suppliers will depend on where you are in the world but the Henry Krank patterns are a good place to start.

Is your hat just a blank cut down? Do you know much about the use of Indian gear, other than leggings, used by the men?

The 60th only had 1 company of light infantry and they were only used once during the attack at Fort Carillon later called Fort Ticonderoga. After that battle the 60th did not have a light Infantry Company.

www.itf-munich.com/. Hi , great video. As I said on your last video I seem to be the only Redcoat in southern Germany. We just attended the 2019 camp in Hallbergmoos ( 10 mins) from Munich Airport, perhaps you could pay us a visit next year and join in with your hobby.

Great Video. I live in south Germany and my partner and I have been attending camps with a full Cotten tent for the last 12 years? The camp theme is American history, Indians Trappers, French war and Civil war. It seems I am the only Redcoat in south Germany. I copied my uniform which is sort of light infantry from 1775 however every other uniform I see is a long coat. I would like to send you a picture if that's possible for you to comment on.

Daft question ... but where is your razor and knife? British soldiers of the time were I suspect to be clean shaven and I know that having a knife is useful. I use a British army clasp knife in my WW1 cavalry impression and trust mee it gets used regularly during events ( Disclaimer- no members of the public were harmed by said knife at any event.... yet.)

So you say that in 1758 that all four battalions were involved in New York and Louisbourg respectively: there most certainly was a battalion with Forbes on the campaign to fort Duquesne through pennsylvania

It looks like an illustration by the Funckens, but I don't know which of their books it might be in. It's not in "Soldiers" Uniforms and Arms in Detail, 1700-1780" ("L'uniform et les armes des soldats en detaille, 1700-1780") or "Soldiers' Uniforms and Arms of All Eras" (Les costumes et les armes des soldats du tous les temps").

I know it varied per unit, but did the 60th carry both a shoulder box and a cartridge box? I know by the AWI, most units had shifted to a shoulder box. Either way, excellent video, mate.

Hi there, there are a number of suppliers, mostly based in the US although www.sj-seamstress.com in the UK carry some really good stuff. Having said that, I think I'm right in saying that everything in this video except for the buff belt was made by group members. If you would like to know more why not pop by our facebook page facebook.com/60thfoot/ and send/leave a message or email us at [email protected], we are always happy to discuss kit, patterns and materials.

@john Mullholand It was one of several cartridge box designs from the period, in use by the British Army (IIRC these weren't standardized till after the war). The large flap served mostly as a form of protection against the elements; other designs had shorter flaps, but will often come with a second flap under it, for added protection (mine is like that). This style was in fact one of the most common in the period before the war--you see it in illustrations from the War of Austrian Succession, for example (1740-1748). It's not that hard to access, since the leather is softer than in other models (later models--like mine, are stiffed, but since they're shorter, they're not a challenge)
