He said it was about 50 ft.², how thick was the product that you put in and now that it’s been a while would you go thicker?
@champlingarage Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly it’s 80mil thick. At this point I’ve added some foam sound deadener on top so I don’t think thicker would help but extra insulation does

I gotta tell ya. If this is your second time doing this, you are so damn good at it. Yea, theoretically it's not rocket science but until you have done one, it's very daunting. Now I must look back and check out what welder you are using because your tack welds look really pro. Hands of Gold for sure. Makes me want to try it.

Professional work, and as others have said, inspiration to tackle my own car. Now, this is not a criticism, but I would like to see also how you actually cut out the old rusted metal. What you used, how to get a straight cut, etc. And from that, the equipment you used to weld it. I don't know if the speeded up video could be slowed down to show that, but just an idea. Again, fabulous work!!

Those square bodies were the first Chev & GMC fullsize pickups to have an optional bigger cab which was a crew cab like that one there in the video. They were first introduced in 1973 which was also the first year for the square bodies. Unlike the crew cab pickups today which are also on half ton models with a short box, the square body crew cabs were only on three quarter ton & one ton models & all had the long fleetside box. Them & the other square body models were produced up through 1991 except for the plain cab pickups which became obsolete before that year. In 1987, the half ton & three quarter ton ones were finished, but the one ton ones on the other hand were still in production up through 1989.

I hope this works well for you. Its likely goin to rust out. The rubber liner will hold moisture and it will rust away. Fluid film or something like that is a much better way to stop rust. Hopefully this works. Its a very nice truck

I’m surprised you didn’t cab, bed, and front clip swap the 71 GMC onto the newer frame and weld custom mounts onto the new frame for the 71 GMC cab. I’m in the process of doing that to my 72 GMC as well, but I’m taking the 72 GMC cab, bed, and front clip and swapping it onto a 2003 2500hd 4x4 chassis with the LQ4 6.0, wish I coulda found a Duramax to swap, but just to expensive in my area lol. Good luck on the build man! I’ll define keeping up with your videos! 🤘🏼
@champlingarage Жыл бұрын
Thank you! It would’ve been nice to cab swap it and not mess with any suspension/drivetrain but I wanted the truck to be a true 71, frame and all. Besides, the duramax frame was all twisted up so that wasn’t even really an option lol that 6.0 will still be sweet! I’ll have to check it out
